This massive tank just came over and wanted hugs. His owner was actually moved by the fact that I didn’t recoil in fear basically. We judge dogs way too harsh. Dogs are like people. Yes some are not friendly, some are straight out hostile. But 99% are just friendly and want to say hi.
I have 3 dogs in my neighborhood who growl and bark at you, so most people stay away. But once you know the dogs you know they are just angry about getting pets and that's all they want. One runs up to me angrily then pushes in between my legs for pats. Then he has a big smile. The owners are always apologetic but I'm like it's all good I know him. Absolutely be cautious but it's so funny to me I love dogs who are just silly.

So we always gave her a pat on the way to and from school for about three years until one day she chomped on my sister’s arm. She needed stitches. The owner was about three feet away at the time. So now I never pat doggies in their yards, because you just never know.

Can you not have a dog where you live? If not, the shelters love when people visit to take the dogs (or cats or any other animals they have) out to play or just go into the rooms/kennels to visit them, especially ones that don't get as much attention due to age or illness.
When I adopted my good boy, 2 years ago yesterday, I asked to see 7 doggos that day. I then told the nice young human helping me that I would need to be restrained from adopting each one in turn. And each dog I saw I said "oh, no, yup, he/she is the one. Oooo, ok, no. THIS is the one." Finally I chose my derpy boy Vesuvius. But yeah, almost 6 more.
Especially not one of the villainized trio: pitbulls, rottweilers, or dobermans. People can justify lots of terrible things if they think of your dog as a monster.
Stolen dogs are "off the record" adopted dogs have paperwork. Steal dogs and use them as bait dogs for fighting, then dump em when they're mangled or dead. Repeat. This is how POS train fighting dogs. Fuck them. Absolute scum to steal a family pet
My ladyfriend found a mangled pit bull pup while living in LA. Vet said his wounds were consistent with that of a bait dog being drug across the ground in front of fighting dogs to get them wound up. Baits are used to train, build up confidence on weaker dogs. (Smokey, after my daughter got him with hairchalk)
Dunno how true it is, but I remember a story about a dog that had to have their tail removed because they were consistently injuring it due to wagging too hard against random things.
