Its been interesting to see other conservatives try to gauge when Trump has finally gone too far and jump ship to save their reputation. Someone of them did it in his first term and it was obviously too early. I think Tucker figured he'd appear to change after the first accusation against Trump from a child was discovered in the Epstein files in March, but it hasn't moved the needle much with Trump supporters.

I spent 10 years in the US Army, four of them active duty infantry... I am a gun owner, and there is no picture of me posing with a gun (someone sent me some candid pics of me in the field with a SAW, but I was just carrying the thing.

Politics is a chess match. You don't purity test the USSR over Stalin when you're trying to stop Hitler. He is an asshole and a psychopath but he is the single greatest weapon for truth and justice right now and it is obliterating the Republican base.

People like Tucker Carlson turning against Trump and doing an fake appology tour as part of a soft rebrand is a massive warning sign that the normally monolithic republican base is crumbling. Meanwhile the cockroach commentators that exist on the same level as Charlie Kirk are still fighting over his market share like rabid dogs.
And no one is claiming Stalin was good or even slightly ok. You just have to play with the hand you are dealt and throwing away cards because of moral grandstanding is how you lose. You can hope for the best, you can your hardest, but sooner or late you have to work with someone unsightly to make sure you win against someone wildly worse, or even just as bad.
