Or, it could be because these actually aren't connected.
Eco-catastrophes under the Soviets and under Mao were, if anything, worse than those under free economies.
Climate change is directly related to our level of technology, not to sociopolitical movements. The era of coal was far more climate-damaging than the era of oil and natural gas, which is far more damaging than the era of renewable energy we are entering, which will be far more damaging than the future nuclear fusion era.
For the exact same reason that Mangione dropped out of the news cycle almost immediately after the powers that be realized that we were not sympathizing with the UHC cunt, and championing his alleged killer: Popular support of ideas that contradict their status quo narrative are a severe threat to their hold on power. It scares the shit out of them.
It went away because we all got bored with her. It was amusing at first that a child would “see” what many adults don’t, but her career of failed protests and achieving nothing leads to a, “you’re a good headline but not action”. Sure, she raises awareness of things we are all aware of but achieves nothing. No one cares because she does nothing.
It didn’t come to a screeching halt, every time she pulls another publicity stunt everyone talks about her for weeks. The trouble is how they’re covering the reasons she did what she did, because 99% of her activism is more about herself than the actual cause purely as a result of being such a big name in that space. If you look at coverage of her protests, almost ALL of it is about her, and not the cause, so it dies off because it’s treated as celebrity news to inflate her ego.
No, I look at what she’s done vs what she says, and literally every single protest she’s done has been more about her than the cause. In relation to the aid for Palestine, she DID literally nothing, worse than nothing actually as it caused follow-ups to cancel and fail, and she herself was only going for the symbolism and coverage, not to actually deliver supplies or HELP anyone. Shes an activist that has yet to actually help anyone or accomplish anything BECAUSE of her desire for the spotlight
Getting repeatedly detained and arrested for offering aid and attention to the genocide in Gaza is pretty damn recent, and substantively big... but most media keeps looking away because of Israel.
Most media kept not caring because it was literally a publicity stunt. Look at the reporting, it was entirely about her, not Palestine, and the backing, funding, many of the crew and actual goals weren’t philanthropy, it was a purely symbolic gesture, not actual aid. Her rallies beforehand also reeked of “look at me I want to be relevant again” nonsense, and actively jeopardised even a CHANCE that their symbolic aid would reach Palestine by publicising it so heavily.
The trick for exploiting celebrity is to make it about yourself, because the people who don't care about the issue you are protesting for will still be alarmed on your behalf, the news will carry a story they would otherwise ignore because of celebrity involvement. They ignored her this time because pro-Israel ownership and funding compel silence in the media.
The news was reporting on it for nearly two solid weeks. Nobody was “ignoring” it, it was much more the case that nobody cared. The outcomes were obvious and people just saw the “activism” for what it was; meaning a purely symbolic gesture not actually meant to help anyone save Greta herself, who had fallen out of the activist media spotlight. It was barely newsworthy in the first place, and killed both the spotlight and chance for the ACTUAL run at the blockade for REAL supplies shortly after.
They don't report on any of it until a sufficiently high-profile personality gets caught up in it. Media attention on Greta didn't block the humanitarian efforts, Israel. did.
It was more than a year ago, do you expect media to keep reporting on a year old event where there is no new development? Israel is in the news for their actions DAILY, Greta isn't because she's not involved.
She has been staging and participating in protests across Europe, but the media isn't covering it. She was vocal about the recent Swedish elections. She has been out there doing the work, but that isn't spicy enough to merit MSM coverage.
And THAT is the problem, @PatrickDenStore - She's still doing things, but you're not hearing about them BECAUSE the media isn't covering them.
And that's how they want it. Don't cover it, people will never know it's happening. Same reason a lot of protests in the US aren't making the news. Our regime doesn't want people to know there's an active resistance.
Similarly, Greta's opponents, including anyone taking Israeli money, don't want people to know that she's still fighting.
She LITERALLY started out doing just that and has done it ever since, the Gaza stuff is a detour from that. Her original claim to fame is starting "klimatupproret" (the climate revolution) where she inspired kids (as she was a kid at the time) to go on school strikes for the climate. Her latest claim to fame was stopping a tiny bit of forest from being cut down in Sweden which pretty much put a 400 year old family farm out of business.
Beatrice Karlsson not out of business and she is still trying to get permitting to harvest some wood, but it really did hit financially. she is not slashing and burning, just trying to raise some funds from portion of her land.
greta joined BirdLife - this is the activist group hell bent on saving all forests for the 3 toed woodpecker.
they were the ones that turned the green light to harvest into a temporary stop. now Karlsson must wait for officials to decide
Maybe she should get a fucking job. 400 year old family farm - oh so her family have been landowners for 15-20 straight generations and they're somehow not wealthy? That's on them.
Also there is a group who does this media thing with young teens making their point at EU et. al. Greta has been doing her part for longer than expected (and honestly, good for her).
She went from being an unusually impassioned young person pushing for climate action at a time when much of the world was receptive to the mission, to one of many adult activists at a time when much of the West turned its back on climate action in the wake of Trump’s influence.
Her age is a significant factor being cast as a gifted child prodigy (Gladwell would prob argue it's less inate talent and more passion+resources devoted) leading Intl humanitarian campaigns. This made her a novelty that media outlets could sell as a feel good story about the potential of a better tomorrow, "aww, isn't she cute". The special interest angle faded the older she got. Now an adult, her stories are viewed under standard political lens that polarized her and lost ½ of media spectrum
Yes, and that laser pointer is ad revenue through engagement. Reasonable, non-violent protest, and activism that makes sense doesn't generate any engagement therefore doesn't make media nearly as much money as unhinged malicious right wing politics and policy does.
The media is a bunch of grifters and millionaires controlling the narrative in favor of billionaires and corporations. They know damn well what they're doing.
Right. Except.. Why do you think the world's richest fascist bought Twitter at a truly asinine price? Why do you think all of it is owned by such filth? Random chance is it?
This is really the problem with sites like Imgur. You have people with zero reading comprehension downvoting posts so they can't be seen by the minority of decent intelligent people.
You think that's the only thing she ever spoke up about? Were you paying attention when she was denounced, and even imprisoned, for protesting the genocide in Gaza last year?
And she's not been idle the rest of the time, either - her advocacy about climate change was an ongoing campaign, not "one speech". She appeared at many public events, and was pretty non-stop on the social media side.
She's also spoken against the Russian invasion of Ukraine, AND Trump's nonsense with Cuba this year.(1/2)
But the news isn't covering that, because it doesn't want people to KNOW that she's still fighting. And, lo and behold - it worked on you. You assumed that, all this time, she's been riding on fifteen minutes of fame.
That's not what I said at all. I said that she got her attention from one speech as a kid. Of course she has done many other things since.
Its like saying that Justin Bieber got his attention from that "Baby" song on youtube. Does that mean he hasn't made lots of other music since? Of course not. But its a strange and unconventional way to start a career, just like its strange that Greta has had persistent coverage after that one speech.
Of course but my point is that she came out of nowhere as a kid yet that momentum has kept up and the media has continued to follow her.
To use the music comparison, if you look at the Beatles, they were playing gigs as the quarrymen for years with very little attention. By the time they made it big there was a groundswell of support behind them and they had a lot of time honing their skills.
For Greta, there was none of this, she was literally just a teenager delivering a speech.
This is just ignorance. She literally started out as a climate activist talking about exactly that and has done so ever since. She's not in the news because she's done nothing noteworthy (internationally, we still see her in the news in Sweden but it's local stuff) since June 2025.
There was a 90s band just called "Greta". They were guys that wore dresses on stage sometimes. It was quite the scandal at the time. Many pearls were clutched
Feeling old isn't scary. Growing up with the knowledge that we could fix the damage that'll eventually kill most of us and watching as nothing happens would be far worse.

You got it backwards. She stopped selling headlines. People care, business tacks that. People don’t care, she stops selling headlines.
A 12 year old that cares is headlines. A no longer 12 year old who has achieved nothing does not sell headlines.
Simple as that.
