I can see the pushback from people earning more that miss the whole no bill part when you go to a doctor. If your household is making 150k, you pay 400 in this plan. I would take that gladly over roughly the same amount I’m paying through work today if everything were truly covered.

People also don't realize how much Medicare for All would benefit their city and county budgets. A sizeable percentage of your city & county's annual budget goes towards paying for part of that government's employee healthcare. (It used to be something that was fully paid by most government entities until insurance orgs realized those entities can't just declare bankruptcy & not pay it, so they jack the prices). All that money could get funneled to other public works projects or just lower taxes

I wish you could compare Apples to Apples here. Is this health insurance better, worse, or equal to the private one you get through a job? Say your job in Arkansas is paying you closer to $130k. Now you're looking at some easy maths of 4k a year ($333/mo). This STILL is cheaper than most insurance takes from your paycheck.. but what does it cover? Who's in-network? How do the doctors get paid? And if all these have answers - why dont we do this everywhere?

I wonder if employers would be allowed to cover some of the expense or be required to increase salaries to compensate for the portion they used to pay. Or maybe employers pay it pre tax based on the employees salary would be good. Probably still less than what they're currently paying. Everyone would win.

I worked for a Fortune 100 tech company. We had some of the best insurance you could imagine.
It cost me $200 a month just for my wife and myself, and we still had to pay co-pays for every visit, every medication, every procedure. And even though our dental insurance was far better than average, it only covered about 50% of any procedure.

4% is a fucking illusion. Don't believe that shit. We in Germany pay 14-18% and our prices for Medicin and Care are heavily regulated. You would need to do the same in the US or your rate will be 25% or higher.
It is just not possible with 4% unless it just covers absolute emergencies.

It is absolutely possible if it is run as a service and not for profit. The US military budget is incredibly bloated. Put a tiny drop of that toward fully-funding medicare for all instead and no taxes would go up, and the mulitary budget would still be ridiculously bloated.

I've lived in the USA for decades without health insurance. My total annual bills average less than what many of my friends pay in copays alone, not to mention premiums. And I never deny myself any necessary procedures. In 2012, I did have a $8K bill for surgery, but I learned that my copay would have been almost that much if I did have insurance. Self-payers usually get steep discounts.

I've heard of people being refused medical service if they don't have insurance, even if they are totally rich and could pay millions out of pocket. And I can believe it, since I was once refused check-in at a hotel because I didn't have a credit card even though I offered to pay cash up front. Some businesses just won't serve you until they know they can bleed you dry.

Yeah, I do those things (well, not mammograms) and I've generally paid out of pocket for them. One of the points I'm trying to make here is that medical services are generally steeply discounted for self-pay patients, and the other is that nobody else can decline to pay for necessary procedures, so treatment tends to be timely, reducing the need for further treatment and improving patient health.
