As someone with a masters in classical literature, I found it good. It was always gonna be different than the original work, you simply can't take a story like that and 1:1 it to the big screen in front of a modern audience. Classical literature takes genuine effort to understand and appreciate - the movie didn't, and that's a good thing.

It's an alleged adaptation of the Odyssey that cuts the Nobody scene. You know, the most famous stratagem of the man of many stratagems this movie is supposedly about. The crucial scene for Odysseus's characterization as a brilliant strategist laid low by a moment of hubris, which both directly causes his decade of suffering Poseidon's wrath and informs his habit of concealing his identity from that point forward even when doing so wouldn't actually benefit him.

Regarding Helen specifically, the text does describe her as being "white-arm'd". https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/6130/pg6130-images.html However, as I pointed out in another thread, scholars broadly don't take that to mean that she was being biologically described as what we'd now call caucasian. "white-arm'd" does tend to imply that she wasn't in the sun often (not someone who had to labor) and had blemish free skin, in other words beautiful and aristocratic.
