Edit: "Everything I know about FIFA is against my will." is one of the comments I most related to.
I didn't grow up watching it (much like any sports) and knowing what I do now after reading some of these comments, I really don't know why anyone watches it.
zHurk777
FiFA has always been corrupt. The United States investigate fifa 10 or 15 years agao, which caused some fifa resignations and also got some convictions.
wobblecopterrrr
I could honestly give less than a fuck, I do think it's funny that conservatives are getting all huffy about soccer, this whole whole thing was probably a bet made a fifth and an 8ball deep...
ArchaeoEejit
Said everyone they saw at bars was enjoying the world cup. I asked if they thought people were going to bars to not watch the world cup.
LittleAzie
What I was disappointed the most in was how my home country treated the whole thing - demanding the Iranian team get out of country as soon as their games were over, Trump and the red card, denying entry, ect ect... I don't like FIFA myself, but many people do, so I at least respect the game and fans having fun. I just hope those that did visit for it had a wonderful time.

everything trump touches...

*fake peace prize to gratify the man baby president, not the country. There, I fixed it. We hate him.
Arkheno
DarthVaderDidNothingWrong
How unjust "the world" is? Don't get me wrong, of course it is. But those were all examples of one country and fifa.
DameDePiques
Why oppose conspiracies and facts? It absolutely could be a conspiracy (a very poorly managed one, since conspiracies are supposed to be secret, but still).
MadameCleo
I think that many people have, in everyday speech, stopped making a difference between „conspiracy“ and „conspiracy THEORY“, but it’s important to use those expressions distinctly.

In this one, angry people act like FIFA is only just now becoming fraudulent and none of these debacle have happened in the past

FIFA being corrupt is a time honored tradition since its inception. The fact that America-centric Imgurians don't realize that is... expected
micuu
Ironically Sepp Blatter has been constantly calling it out for this one, which is just..... like my dude, how about having this opinion 15 years ago?
DwaneDibbley
But think about record profits! Thats most important.

People are more upset about sony and fifa than about any political important things that happened during the last decade. And it still won't matter, they will have forgotten in 3 months, and rewards the entites that let them down again. We are screwed, and we deserve it.
meatsmokertx
The Iran/Italy thing is not really true. When Iran was unsure if they'd participate, an American ambassador mentioned Italy possibly taking their spot. Nothing more than that
rossonerinho
I've watched nearly every world cup match since 1982 and quite a few from 1974 and 1978. I quit watching this one during the Mexico v England match and won't be going back.
Dizastrpiece
Che07
Sepp Blatter, former FiFA boss long held the title of most corrupt official - ever. Then came Infantino making Blatter look like a kid caught with his fingers in the cookie jar. FIFA is to soccer players like Epstein to the girls he preyed on - a pimp of gigantic proportions. After this shameful disaster in the US there will have to be some serious recoining. A huge thank you for hosts Canada and Mexico though - what a difference!
metroid2
The solution for myself is I just dont watch it or support it in any way.
MaintenanceGuyHere
Olympics are about unity and it happens every 2 years. World cup is about money
grandfalloon
You're kidding yourself if you think the IOC isn't vying for FIFA's position as the most corrupt sports organization in the world.
BendOverAndIllShowYa
Points well taken. However the actual matches have been nothing if short of amazing. For a soccer fan, it’s been glorious to watch so many well played, fun, exciting games. Truly a great tournament this year.
hexephant
The peace prize wasn't to gratify the host country, it was to stroke one narcissistic man-baby's ego with a participation trophy so he wouldn't fuck things up. Then he fucked things up.
psmith00
who hasn't figured out that the FIFA World Cup Games are just another Capitalist cash grab, raise your hands now.
Halfwise
The only FIFA worth a damn.
gayvillian
That's why I haven't watched a second of it or even kept up on it. Only way they learn is by fucking with their money.
Maulbert
Pretending FIFA wasn't already one of the shittiest organizations on the planet and would be tainted by Trump's corruption is FUCKIN' RICH.
MakeItBackAlright
If it wasn't, it wouldn't be able to be tainted. Trump
jasondeslin
True, however, no matter how corrupt or horrible a thing is, Shitler can and will find a way to make it MORE corrupt and horrible. It's literally his only talent.
He's the Billy Mays of bullshit. But wait, there's more... horrors, atrocities, and blatant thievery.
unwaver
True.
agonarch
It is at least 'impressive' that it was made so obviously worse, from a certain point of view.
EggFooYung
I know some people are bitching about the hydration breaks being a spot for commercials, but they really are needed, at least in some places like Atlanta. It's 95F with 85% humidity and you'll need a hydration break just walking down the street for 15 minutes. People die of this shit every year.
Hexidimentional
i'm fully on board with hydration breaks being sponsored by commercials, why not?
KillingTlme
Agreed, but mainly because I need to get a beer or take a piss every 20-25 minutes anyway.
GravyEducation
Who the fuck would bitch about someone telling someone else to stay hydrated? That's like, the main thing in life you need to do
martineb72
Except many of the stadiums have AC. So they are actually cooler than most places that didn't require a hydration break.
MechKelly
What stadiums? Most are open air.
marsilies
Looking it up, there's a few closed-roof stadiums this World Cup. FIFA made the drink breaks mandatory and uniform this time around, where previously it was at the discretion of the venue & officials, depending on condition. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_FIFA_World_Cup#Venues , https://www.espn.com/soccer/sto">Venues">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_FIFA_World_Cup#Venues , https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/48945011/why-there-drinks-breaks-2026-world-cup-fifa-criticised
WhyDontYouMakeMe
What about the Cups in Qatar and Brazil?
Karilyn
Qatar is hotter but has no humidity. Brazil has the humidity but is colder. Atlanta has both the heat and the humidity.
Hexidimentional
i'm a realist, i've hated fifa for decades and knew this would be the most corrupt world cup ever
lostlittletimeonthis
Wait until trump steals the cup in the final
unwaver
The world needs more realists.
Hexidimentional
i expected the worst and i'm still disappointed lmao
unwaver
I gave into peer pressure and watched a single game. It was the one with Iran vs. Egypt and I left the venue grumbling, swearing never to waste my time with it again.
I didn't think there's any room left for disappointment at this point in my life. I thought wrong.
Hexidimentional
for me it was the 360 video games
unwaver
LOL I only ever played the Mario games on 360. Times seemed simpler back then (but were they really?).
I'm getting behind the wheel now. Thanks for the chat
DaveSamsonite
Just another day in the Trumo crime syndicate.
LoudBirb
I feel like the 1934 world cup that Italy won because Mussolini threatened to kill people and openly coerced the referees might have a hand up on this one in terms of corruption.
That said, we call him Mango Mussolini for a reason.
OmnibusLatinName
Everything I know about FIFA is against my will.
SideBoobsWillGetYouBanned
And it won't change even if they remove Infantino. Another will take his place and the carusell continues. They earn too much money, and not enough countries/players/viewers boycott. It's, as always, all about the money
Luffian
More corrupt than having actual slaves build the stadiums in '22?
updootsonlyupdoots
Expand, please

Qatar participated (still kinda does? doesn't? it's unclear) in the Kafala system which is a Middle Eastern Employment system for foreign labor that is rife with abuse as it places an Employer in charge of a lot of the workers rights. During the construction of the stadiums for the 22 WC there was a journalistic investigation that showed despite Qatar's claims of loosening and supposedly abandoning the system they were still doing so via construction workers and security guards for the 1/2
MurderousCoat
for the stadium construction sites. More concerning was the number of workers who'd died due to lax safety standards and a predicted potential number of 4000 dead of the 2 million workforce due to the already dead 1200 (this number is disputed by Qatar and some international organizations) since work began on the stadiums in 2010 when Qatar won their bid for the 2022 World Cup. Regardless of deaths it is certain that migrants were denied pay and food at times and some were stopped from leaving.

the corruption was in giving the world cup to them when these humanitarian issues were well known.
pachyderm
That was one of the first dominoes for me
Hexidimentional
that only would have been corruption if quatar isnt already doing shit like that on the regular
GravyEducation
Right, like, THIS was the straw that broke the camel's back? If you haven't been against FIFA for years you haven't been paying attention. I understand the need for the solace or camaraderie or whatever you get from sports. But my my the well has been tainted for a loooooong time
Hexidimentional
like when they made a muslim country serve alcohol
