Dear Zachery will literally blow your mind, don't read about it just watch. But know you're in store for an emotionally roller coaster.
Youredone
I have enjoyed most of the film's on this list. I'd also recommend Who Took Johnny
Megolas1
Who Took Johnny is so riveting it's better than produced thrillers
BigAZNMan
I saw the pictures on Galapagos Affair pic and Gilligan's Island theme is stuck in my head.
TheHumanFund
I'd add "Jesus Camp" to this list.
Blondbomber
I could not finish it, watching the process of brainwashing is not a fun time. Creepfest ahoy.
zoeytg
It was tough to watch. I grew up in that culture. I was lucky and rebelled completely. Moved to Satan's coast. The West.
FlatPlutoSociety
Some of those kids seemed really nice, and they will almost certainly turn out as awful people, completely broken, out both.
mycatToastwasafatasshole
I felt so bad for the little girl. You can tell she has very bad self esteem issues.
TheHumanFund
A couple of them say they're okay: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/jul/06/jesus-camp-christian-documentary-kids-10-years-later

aalcoholism
Dear Zachary FUCKED me up on the inside. Gave me chills. I hate that movie in the best ways. I highly recommend watching it only ONCE
YoureTheBIGmarriageExpertOhIMsorryiForgotYourWifeIsDead
The gold standard in true crime documentaries is "The Thin Blue Line." Also, Central Park Five is really good.
FarNorthFarLeft
Central Park Five is devastating. Police narrow mindedness at its extreme.

notwhitetrashbrittany
Made me bawl like a baby
Obikin
Dear Zachary and How to Die in Oregon are ones that really hit me hard.
ASmellofWineandCheapPerfume
Have not seen all of these, but of the ones I have seen that 'Just Melvin, Just Evil' was the scariest one.. incredibly sad and tragic.
PrettyBasicNotABitch
Into the Abyss is one of my all time favorite documentary! I love Werner Herzog.
penultimatewarrior
Grizzly Man, Fata Morgana, Little Dieter Needs To Fly... Herzog is a total hero.
Mishwaar
Blackfish was a real eye opener. 10/10 would recommend
DasOgre
You'll be happy to know that much of that documentary has been shown to be lies.
StTriniansHeadBoy
Alcoholism *is* drug abuse.
BloodiDodi
Catfish was so obviously scripted. The show is too.
irotinmyskin
the show is ridiculously scripted, but there was something disturbing in the documentary when he finally meets the girl he was talking to.
BloodiDodi
It's in the way the guys behaved. For me it was glaringly fake.
irotinmyskin
it could be. i will definitely see it again and watch their reaction more carefully
WolfOfMay
Tickled went real weird. Quick
NYGiantsFan72
West of Memphis was sooooo interesting. Please, for the love of all things dickbutt, go watch this.

I'm alone in my room at night and was able to scroll through all of these, I'd say they're just disturbing and not scary. You can do it!!
raviolihummingbird
The imposter is pretty freaky, but not scary at all. You just think to yourself "how can this be real?" but its great. Watch it. :)
bonponyfries
Turrets?
becauseurwrong
If it helps, I've watched Cropsey and it's just boring when it's not child-abduction-statistics sad.
FeliciaSexopants
Yeah, it was so boring! Killer Legends was okay in spurts, but it was pretty dull too.
iluvbunbuns
same here, cropsey was boring and not at all what I thought it was going to be.
DrunkenWeasel
Now, which ones are on Netflix?
shadowheart65
Pretty sure all of them are.

Making a Murderer and Jinx are among the best docs I've ever seen.
Pixie0422
I liked Making a Murderer too, but I think it may have been kinda biased. I don't think they presented all the evidence.
CrackerUmustBTrippin
If you were intrigued by making a murderer then definitely watch http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0117293/ paradise lost
RoseBeef
Saw that one. Crazy story and even crazier to find out at the end what really happened. Thanks for the link, appreciate it! ;)
catsnkartsnhashtarts
Tickled is a good watch! So bizzare
EddieAteDynamite
Yeh real interesting, i did not expect the way in which went.
YoureTheBIGmarriageExpertOhIMsorryiForgotYourWifeIsDead
I just finished it based on @op recommendation. Not impressed. Mildly interesting at best. Some of the others on the list are way better.
NurseMary
I saw it in theater. It was so amazing; the delighted gasping and giggling I did really outed me as a weirdo.
BasisPoints
We had someone just like you in the audience at Music Box in Chicago... very odd reaction you have to discomfort :)
MLGsandwichmaker
I heard about it from The Dollop Podcast and I never got around to watching it until now!
mycatToastwasafatasshole
Is it a horror or a "what the fuck is this shit" doc? Because the picture states it's a terrifying horror show.
catsnkartsnhashtarts
It's not slash terror, or thrilling terror of the conventional kind. It's just kind of unsettling and so goddamn odd
iluvbunbuns
Is it on Netflix or Amazon?
shadajoserj
Just watched it on Netflix!
catsnkartsnhashtarts
Netflix, definitely not, Amazon maybe? Not entirely sure. My mate just had it downloaded.
iluvbunbuns
Is it worth tracking down or renting?
catsnkartsnhashtarts
Yeah! I rekon!
MLGsandwichmaker
I heard about it from The Dollop Podcast and I never got around to watching it until now!
TheBIFFALLO87
Cropsey is absolute garbage.
slugonion
I read it as "Crosby" thought I was getting the memed on again.
AdvonKoulthar
It sounds like a horror film about poorly cropped images
ThatsWhatSheSed
Then it should have been called "UserSub"
talel81
You beat me to the punch. Cropsey had potential but was just boring as hell.
queuepee
I remember waiting for the chilling bit to start.
LungsofThunder
FUCKING THANK YOU. I swear ever one of these lists has cropsy on it and that movie was retarded
YoureTheBIGmarriageExpertOhIMsorryiForgotYourWifeIsDead
I agree. It was shit.
tori910
I agree. Every time I see it included on one of these lists I wonder what I missed that others liked.
surfturd
Agree
cainoh
Yeah, I really wanted to like that film, but it was just somewhat lacking. Wouldn't call it garbage, but a very solid 'meh'.
oskar4498
Preach, brother.
mycatToastwasafatasshole
That's my thought, too. I fell asleep watching it.
fatherofpenguinmafia
How bad was it? Too cliche?
SwingDinger
Just really boring.
suuperhans
A badly executed heap of nothing much. Was like watching a school project.
yomommashousecoat
The filmmakers are incredibly self righteous.
Nicholemarie783
And like any school project, it bored me.
Pixie0422
So was his other film, Killer Legends.
ranchenthusiast
I have only heard of the actual story of Cropsey on a podcast. Was the documentary poorly exectuted? Or did you just not enjoy the "plot"?
skittlefartsandjigglytits
Yeah, so boring I fell asleep half way through, and I'm easily scared and usually into this kind of stuff.
TheBIFFALLO87
Incredibly boring.
iraqlobsta
I agree. Such a let down on a really great concept.
duojet
Overrated, yes.
Nicholemarie783
I agree, it really wasn't that great.

BobTheMemeKing
I mean there's a lot of evidence the bear was from another area and didnt recognize the furless freak in front of him so he killed him.
YoureTheBIGmarriageExpertOhIMsorryiForgotYourWifeIsDead
Yeah, "rogue bear" is the complete antithesis to the theme of the film.
DeadTuesday
I think treadwell knew exactly what he was doing - that he would die that way. I am convinced of it. Does anyone else think that?
volatilechemicals
The bear was obviously a fighter or a barbarian.

he's the bearer of bad news.

Also bears wandering out of their territory looking for food, he knew all the bears in the area, the one that killed him was a stranger.

Do NOT watch Dear Zachary if you don't want to deal with complete and utter heartbreak and sadness. It still haunts me.

Far and away the best movie I've ever seen. Just brutal.

Hard to feel so much anger and sadness at the same time

I made my wife watch it... she then googled the documentary midway and spoiled it for herself when I wouldn't give her any details about it.
Drafi
I just finished watching it a couple minutes ago. I'm in tears... that doesn't usually happen to me. But I think everyone needs to see it.
emmalee60
Just watched it last night because of this post. I know now what the devil really means.

Watched it for college, repressed the memory, decided to re-watch, instantly regretted my decision. Best film I'll never watch again.

right. It's very very sad, but not like a life ruiner. Just friggin goofed.
annmiha
I think something is wrong there. Have you tried turning your emotions off and on again?
thirtyhelensagree
This will sound terrible, but there are things much more horrifying than a child dying.
superhans1988
Why would you spoil it?
thirtyhelensagree
Spoil it? It's a real thing that happened less than 15 years ago and was all over the news. It's not a surprise twist.

No sweat. I thought it added and interesting extra layer of weirdness.
MyFrontPorchInMississippi
Unpopular opinion, making a murderer was biased garbage and that cat killing sicko deserves to rot in jail.
KharnApproves
I was so bored after two episodes. Plus, This American Life had a podcast out about it before it came out.
cainoh
Yep. There is indeed a LOT evidence out there to support that sentiment.
xBenoitBallsx
I didn't get the hype over this. Mostly as I had just finished watching The Jinx and this was so weak by comparison
prismbear
As much as the fact he threw a cat in the fire bothers me, he was young, stupid, and did his time for that. His kids needed a father more
SighAndUnZipsGuy
While the show may be biased, do your homework. It's crooked through and through. We all should pay for our crimes but in a just way.
YoureTheBIGmarriageExpertOhIMsorryiForgotYourWifeIsDead
Nooooo... you clearly didn't do your homework. The filmmakers intentionally left out details that proved his guilt to fit their narrative.
YoureTheBIGmarriageExpertOhIMsorryiForgotYourWifeIsDead
Don't get me wrong, there were a few incredibly sketchy things the Manitowoc police dept did but that's not close to what Avery did.
YoureTheBIGmarriageExpertOhIMsorryiForgotYourWifeIsDead
It was the same as Serial season 1, the whole narrative was the same way even though he clearly did it too.
ICanHasJava
What do you base that on? Curious because I liked Serial, but I don't like being duped.
Ethansmug
The thing that I found most disturbing about that doc was the cop who had that little fluff of hair on the front of his head.
maximaxe
Yeah it was biased, he probably did it, but I think my boy Brendan was innocent and his conviction has now been overturned
NotShibaNoSir
THAT is a grade A puffin post if I have ever heard one.
Graygray9
I've never seen it. Was he guilty or what happened?
ImgurBannedMeWtf
Let's just say there's a ticket to Wrestlemania out there for one young man...

I thought the point wasn't how innocent he was but how corrupt the legal system was.

That wasn't the feeling I got.

Me too. I'm from Canada b but still the legal shit and just so much of it surprised m me and not in a good way
