Easy line not to cross when just about everything for sale on amazon these days is chinese drop shipping shite.
lljkstonefish
Find something that costs $0.01, and order it.
Shit, order one every hour for a month and it'll only cost like seven bucks. It'll probably make a dent in their bottom line if everyone did it.
klawheart
This should include no site traffic and no content/ad engagement 👍
ChromePlatedEquator
I looked just for fun, and all the Amazon "deals" are bullshit. Mark stuff up then discount it slightly, or just pretend it's "25% off" and hope no one will notice.
Urgalicity
Solidarity in this case would be to shop as normal and to encourage continued strikes. Then complaining loudly about the lack of service as a customer. Ask them, "Well why did they strike?"
jammer909
I wasn't aware this was happening, or that it started in November.
SerialSeb
Weird how there was massive coverage of the Canada Post Strike (for example) but virtually none for the Amazon Strike. So strange...
thedill2000
Ah crap. I didn't know. I ordered a few small things, forgive me please.
AyatollahBahloni
I have long been a news Junkie and I've gotten my information from the AP, Reuters, and npr. But since the election debacle I have pretty much avoided all news feeds. I just can't stand what's happening in our country. It's too fucking depressing. So I had no idea this was going on. But I'm glad to learn about it here.
Calicious
I haven't heard about this
ministerofheresy
Honestly, I don't mind waiting a couple of days extra for my Amazon order if it means they're getting paid better and/or get better working conditions.
TripleDane
man I was about to buy some rechargable batteries... that was on a nice sale
klobberer42
Rats! $40 cookbook my daughter wants for xmas is $14.99 for black Friday...won't let my wife order it.
GTimgur
Hm. Strikers don't want you to stop using what they provide. They want to be better compensated for it.
wandermanspacebot
You really don't see how a serious dip in sales on the same day they're striking would send a message to Amazon?
GTimgur
A huge maybe? You know how easy it is for management to explain away such things? Just what are you expecting, that a union could coordinate with consumers to make a meaningful hit anyway? That's why that's not the point of a strike. Coal miners strike not because people want or need coal less but because they need/want it just as much as ever, and the miners want a better share of the benefits.
hfctom
I mean, lately Amazon is pitching off brand garbage and their shipping has gone to crap. The only reason I keep prine now is for tv.
DaisyfromDownunder
The smarter thing is to bypass Bezos and go straight to his suppliers who sell direct at wholesale prices to you.

But having more orders come in without employees to fulfill them is the only way Amazon will feel any pain from this
HeresYourSauce
I did not know this. Thanks!
languex
Me too. I'll hold off buying anything from Amazon until next week.
ExplodingPortaPotty
For everyone one person that doesn't 100,000 others will without hesitation. Amazon is to ingrained into modern society to meaningfully combat with a "hey you shouldn't use this" message.
DancingSwine
Wouldn't it be more effective to mass order on than day ? Yes profit for amazon, but the priciple of strikes is to disrupt as much as possible the activity.
wadatahmydamie
It won’t disrupt much of anything, they’ll just fulfill the orders next week after the strike ends. They don’t guarantee shipping speeds.
NVGoddesscottage
Why do I never hear this till after I shop
wadatahmydamie
Messaging ain’t always the best, especially considering how many unsympathetic billionaires own the press
NVGoddesscottage
Oh so true
Heavenissize17socks
,@op, you're coming about this the wrong way. DO SHOP black Friday!! Let Amazon see how physically impossible it is to fill 10, 000 orders/hr without the people they described as 'disposable' ten days prior. Make the orders complicated. Buy the cheapest items and -giftwrap them! Send them to multiple addresses, then call in to modify them! Then get the tracking numbers and call in to inquire about them ...alot. We can help them by increasing demand while they throttle supply. Economics 101!
wadatahmydamie
My issue with that strategy is that they’re still getting paid
UristImiknorris
Use coupon code FIVEFINGERDISCOUNT for 100% off your entire order and free shipping.
PirateRubberDuck
They will still make plenty of money and reducing demand just means they don't need scabs to cross the picket line. You will achieve nothing except removing power from the union.
pleaseconsiderthatImightbejoking
They only get paid if the order is fulfilled... the thing they need the employees for.
wadatahmydamie
They get paid immediately, when you make the order. Shipping times aren’t guarantees, so they’ll just send stuff when the strike ends on Monday.
mthrndr01
Return it all upon arrival?
SeasonedCitizen
In the country that Googled "What is a tariff" on election day, I hold out zero hope anyone will know this is going on, or even care.
samanthadlcruz
"why isn't joe biden on the ballot?"
SeasonedCitizen
"How to change my vote"
drunkbs
They will if it impacts their precious 2 day deliveries.
sambaah05
I mean. Did you see that deal on that toaster? Can human rights toast that equally? I think not.
mixiekins
Also, please be kind to your letter carrier this season, folks.
tarataqa
Do people still send letters via letter carrier??
Imalwaysready
If you’re cold, they’re cold, so make sure to bring them inside.
Heisanevilgenius
They're all on strike here in Canada
seehemewe
Leaving snacks out is something nice to do
tarataqa
What goes better with snacks? Hustler or Penthouse?
tarataqa
How do you "cross" a picket line when you're just buying shit from an online store?
wadatahmydamie
Is the is a serious question?
tarataqa
Obviously you don't want me to boycott Amazon entirely, you want me to wait until after Monday and THEN buy up all my X-mas presents. Is that right?
wadatahmydamie
Ideally, we could all boycott them until the company collapses entirely, but barring that, yes. A picket line isn’t a physical boundary, especially when buying online
tarataqa
ok,
jaxomdad
I wish this were gonna be more effective but not a single person in my house even knew this was a thing. I really do hope it is hella effective though.
AllMyOpinionSuck
My 68 year old father works in an amazon warehouse because who the fuck else will hire someone his age. And I didn't know this was happening I highly doubt he even knew it was a thing. Not that he has the mental capacity to 100% even understand it anymore after his heart attack.
Velisity
It’s not. I work for Amazon fulfillment center on the west coast and didn’t even know this was a thing until today. No one at my site is going to participate in it. We are currently doing 60 hour mandatory work weeks to fill customer demand. Amazon would spend billions to prevent unionizing if they had to. It’ll never happen.
IHaveGreatKittenRecipes
Yeah my local Amazon isn't even pretending to give a rats rear about this strike. I'm pretty sure this is supposed to be an overseas thing, not a US thing.
wadatahmydamie
If even a few people find out about it, it can have exponential results
I heard about it in passing and forgot until today, when I saw this
paullyboy1999
I never heard about it. I'm glad I did. I avoid Amazon as much as possible but need a cheap spare mattress. Found a different retailer and paying almost the same for it. Thank you for posting this.
Etherealvalentine
I just learned of it. :( I had two conversations today about Amazon workers, too. :(
EatingBloodOrangesToStaveOffCannibalism
They haven't actually asked people to not order anything during the strike, so presumably that's part of why the news hasn't spread as much.
Imalwaysready
I’d not heard of this at all.
Zakn3fein
Buddy, im at work at Amazon right now, and this is the first time im hearing about
WooNeat
Or it's like Canada Post strike where everyone knows about it but even a radio ad I just heard today said "don't worry about the Canada Post disruption, you can still get our mail flyer online by visiting ..." Which I find absolutely hilarious they won't even call it a strike when it's a service they depend on
AtmaDarkwolf
so order a TON of shit today, and cancel/refund it all on sunday! Make them THINK they have much work for the guys to do when they back, but take it away. Everyone wins BUT the corporation :P
CaldariBob
I heard nothing of this.
julesthelee
Watch pbs or listen to npr, if you want to know stuff like this
bound4doom
Just went and looked at both of those, PBS wants me to create an account and pay for it. absolutely nothing on NPR I can find anywhere, and Amazon just dropped off a bunch of packages to me. Have seen nor heard anything about this anywhere but here.
Imalwaysready
When was it announced? I’m off this week and I don’t listen to any media if it isn’t something handpicked like an audiobook or music. I’m too busy getting ready for Thanksgiving and trying to get any snippets of relaxation in that I can.
I know I’m not alone in intentionally tuning out this week. I suspect a lot of otherwise usually informed people don’t know about it this week.
