No man has made me laugh louder, cry harder, or even shake in fear from a score more than him. Thank you for creating memories for generations.

He sure can make some great chase music.

I feel ashamed that I had to google him and I was alive for most of his early work
PeePauwPopowitz
He has made some iconic stuff, but get on google and do some research. The vast majority of his stuff is rearranged existing music.

13 year old plays the Star Wars theme outside John Williams' house. Feels ensue: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax_KcYR3KTI

"And a good day to you sir!" Currently working on Star Wars Ep VIII and Indiana Jones 5... wow.
jediconfuzion
Fun fact: there is an Australian guitarist named John Williams who was born on the same day and year as composer John Williams.
keillrandor
(That's why 'this' John Williams often uses his middle name 'Towner' to differentiate btw.)

Fidalas i hope hes still alive

His music has touched more people than any classical composer of the last 150 years.
Ogri
Does anyone else think that all his film scores sound the same?
Demagur
Didn't need a thumbnail of him clutching his chest...
Paladin714
My birthday too! But Musically I'm at the other end of the spectrum.
PattyG67
My birthday too! Happy Birthday!
Paladin714
Ditto!
TallJared
As a musician, I respect his work. As a saxophone player, I hate him for giving the trumpets an ego boost every.single.time.
nibbley
'half your millions, should go to John Williams!'
OphelianAshe
His themes are always memorable, and can be hummed from memory by just about anyone. Most themes these days aren't like that. He's a genius.
keillrandor
He's one of the few composers who really knows how to use TUNES for themes, for the most impact/memorability.
keillrandor
(A tune is a melody of minimum quality (of at least 1 part/8-bars long) that REPEATS immediately without variation - the latter counts)

I love this scene! and then when the orchestra is killed, he yells not John Williams!!!
TerritorialRotbart
This is one of my favorite scenes in the movie. The music and the imagery are absolutely perfect. I love it when the Force theme comes up.
Dociousaliexpilisticfragicalirepus
For real. It taps straight into the sobbing part of the brain I swear.
somanywonders987
My music-major friends are so fuckin uppity. "Oh all JW's songs sound the same!" Not really, but don't hurt yourself up on your pedestal.
eetsumkaus
all his later stuff kinda does though
DemSumBigAssRidges
The man likes his trumpets, but I don't think they all sound alike at all, really...
theyallcallmefeebz
Umm have they heard any two pieces by J.S. Bach?
YesmynameisGreg
Yes, I can almost always pick out a JW piece, but his pieces are always perfect for what they're portraying.
SickOfThisCessPool
They do sound the same, they sound good.
spacecatts
I'm a music major and I think he's amazing so they can suck it
AnalAssimilator
Had a guy rant for like 10 minutes about how he stole the imperial March from Mars, the planets symphony not the Roman god of war.
eetsumkaus
that's hilarious because the time signature isn't even the same. He'd have to accuse everyone else of stealing from Holst
wtfox182
I've heard that complaint. My counter argument is that he has a style.
Gayforbae
I've heard he cribbages/plagarizes a lot. I heard it myself in hedwigs theme a bit.
TimboTimboTimbo
Yeah, that complaint is silly. All great composers have common themes in there musics. Zimmer/Elfman/Giachinno... etc
eetsumkaus
funny thing about Hans Zimmer...https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/yp3w7/just_a_photo_of_hans_zimmers_studio_i_expected/c5xnzcy
zildjianvibes
I've got an MMus from trinity Laban conservatoire in London, for all that means. Your friends are talking out their arse, he's great.
eetsumkaus
it really depends which era JW you're talking about. He got into a funk a few years ago where everything sounded the same.
zildjianvibes
I see your point. I'd say that under the funk umbrella they had individual identity, but I understand why you'd say that completely.
somanywonders987
I agree! I think they're trying to sound cool and hipster-y but fuck that noise.
zildjianvibes
It's music for a purpose. It fulfils that purpose admirably.
somanywonders987
It generates a very distinct feel, but no two songs are perfectly identical in any case.
