I worked at Trader Joes for a year. Worked my ass off, got good reviews, was even offered a management position the day I put in my 2 weeks for a better job. After I left, I found out that management was talking shit behind my back, to the point that old coworkers said they were glad I left for my own sake. Last couple times I went, I was asked why I'd ever come back. It's so high school. Everyone I know that works there hates it or is part of the problem. Not to mention unlivable wages.

There's a world of difference in the products of Aldi and TJ's. TJs has enough of the basics and unique items to make it worth the trip. Aldi never had quite what I want, and only getting close wears on me. It's a quirky, odd store that has its charm, but could never be a primary for me

I shop at the union Safeways near me. They have pretty good sales and if you get their app you can get really good point mark ups for saving on gas. I think Giant does the same thing, but not sure if they are union.

To step into a manager role. I’ve never heard of a gig doing that. I’ll also add all of my service industry experience is in bars and restaurants, but he really seems to like it there. I’m not a fan of the union-busting, but it really just seems like they’re better than all the other major grocery store employers. Thats the "Spiel" of Aldi Nord (Trader Joes German Mother Company). They give their employees bonus and wage just short of Union Wages and Benefits. So if you join a Union, you will get the same as before but have to pay the Union fees. Literally the one case were a Union is not beneficial for the Employee in the short and Mid run. Only on the Long run or in Crisis it is beneficial.

For groceries, Market Basket in New England is well known for treating their employees well.
It's family owned and there was drama a decade ago. The (then & current) CEO was fired by the other branch of the family because they wanted to raid the company for quick cash and he opposed it.

A pound of pasta at my local co-op--and I'm lucky to have access to one of those in the first place; not all people do--costs 200% of TJ's prices. Rice is 150%. Milk is 145% of where I buy mine. OJ is 180%. Cheese is 184%.
I don't eat vegetables as a rule, because I can't afford them. We have similar programs here where I think I could get up to a 100% match on local produce, but it's still inaccessibly expensive. I walk three miles to TJ's, stock up on shelf-stable staples, and walk home.
