The phone was supposed to be for parts only, not working. But out of curiosity, I powered it on. And what do you know... it’s working just fine!

So I contact the seller and he said it was not stolen. I somehow did not believe him...

I called the number and left a voicemail. A few minutes later, I received this text.

Early Christmas gift for this family in Oregon! I hope they find a LOT of pictures they forgot about!

thats cool

Good on you for doing the right thing.

if you find an iPhone, you can ask Siri who it’s owner is. You can also contact their emergency contact from the lock screen.

Right on OP. THAT is integrity. Thank you for restoring faith that decent people do exist.

Its the ebayseller getting the phone back for resale

7 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

Lmao, now THAT would be s scam

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The owner wanted to get their home made porn back. Kid pics story was just for sympathy.

The theif had the password? He didn't format the phone?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pro tip: If you find a lost cellphone, your best chance of getting it back to the owner is to contact the phone's service provider.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yes, because that’s easy to do with almost everyone having some sort of password these days

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

You just need the Sim card. Card shows the carrier. Tell them the number on the card and they can see who it's registered to.

Plot twist: The original thief is getting the iPhone back for free!

Being a good person towards others is not really all that hard, and is often rewarding

Karma coupons for you!

7 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 2

What are karma coupons??? That sounds like the shit you say when getting high while watching someone do a good deed and don’t offer help

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I think of them as a wish for good stuff to come back to you after doing a good deed. Have used the phrase for years

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How far away from the owner were you, @NotSteveWozniak ?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

About 800 miles

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hold up, $15 for an iPhone? Am I old?

7 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

People buy "parts cars" for hundreds of dollars when they're rebuilding old cars, so this is no different.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For a non functioning one for parts, sure

7 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

Ahhh right right right right right

“You can still find them”

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How do you make an effort to claim a phone found in lost and found if you have no idea where you lost it? If you know where it is, not lost.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What a legend

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Check for nudes first, tho!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dont lie you already found all the n00ds

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Google photos, available on iOS and Android, will automatically back those vacation memories up for free.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

Maybe. Selecting the free option never worked for me. Always defaulted to original than hi res, meaning have to pay after 15gb

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I've only encountered this on desktop. On iPhone, "free, high resolution" covered the full resolution from the phone without using my 15GB.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hmmm ..maybe desktops are presumed to be more corporate, and get pushed towards paying fees. #conspiracy

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But once you hit 15gb they will ask you to pay monthly for storage. If you dont pay, they will start blocking all your emails on gmail.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Use a separate Gmail for that then.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have never had this problem. If you choose the free option the photos do not count toward the 15GB, and when I was on iPhone the 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Photos were uploaded at full resolution even on "free."

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"it has tons of pictures on it". Ye but aren't they on Google photos anyway, or does Apple not do cloud storage?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, iCloud was the source of The Fappening IIRC...that really makes me want to give them my pics. Backup to laptop, then backup laptop.

As a eBay seller, I believe the seller. I get boxes of stuff for cheap at government auctions. Thieves don't sit on something for 2 years.

7 years ago | Likes 1987 Dislikes 7

Depends on what you steal...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They try to move it as fast as they can for cash. I buy boxes of stuff and don't have time to test it all. Just list for parts and done.

I have to agree with socmonkey the MO doesnt fit. OP is pretty cool giving him cost and shipping, too.

7 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

If they were reported, would they just need to prove this and they'd be ok?

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Yeah I mean also thieves usually clear the phone first lol

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I work at a cab company, valuable items sit in a separate lost and found where a person is present 24/7. Phones, wallets, ids, a green card

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Surprising the items that go unclaimed. Also, we find a shit ton of keys, like an unusually large amount

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where do you find these government auctions?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've literally never bought a car from something other than a government auction. Never a fleet vehicle - just impounds.

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Post pls with stories ?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, got pics of any of them? I'd like to hear any stories you have.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Cool what kinds have you gotten?

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

A 2500 GMC, crew cab, with the long bed, with which I learned to parallel park when I was 17 (lol), a fox-body Mustang, Chrysler 300, 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and a GMC Sonoma with which I trailered my entire goddamn life across the country (twice). 2/2

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How do you get these government boxes?

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Search "your town/city" and auction. Add the word "government" or "surplus". If you live near an airport, they auction lost & confiscations.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Airport I work at has at least 5 phones turned in every day. No one except me makes an effort to turn them on to look for contact info.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks! I've been looking at it .. how do you deal with shipping?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most are no shipping, you make a pick up appointment.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Got it
