Are people social distancing from their pets? WTF? You need them now more than ever. Lock your kids in the garage and cuddle with your dog.
wasitsomethingisaid
Lost my precious cat 6 days before I developed COVID symptoms and had to quarantine. I pick cat hair off my pants and put it right back.
Jabberwotchi
Super tempted to get a pet but I work 11 hour days and I'd feel bad....
MichaelFreakingScott
My gf and I foster kittens and we just adopted out two within the past two days. ?
alecdshope
Wait. Is this a thing? Are people actually getting pets because they're stuck inside?
xKitCakesx
I think the idea is that they know they can stay at home for at least a few weeks with them to help them get comfortable
xKitCakesx
rehomed animals are nervous and it takes awhile to get comfortable. More time at home = more time to bond to us & trust that they’re safe

I still have to work every day, but I would love to have a cat completely ignore me when I get home.
Thetiredmechanic
Humans. Humans never change.
DaddySchlongleg
Guy I work with, wife is a vet. Told me today, large spike in ppl bringing in pets to put down cos they can't afford to look after them
WholesomeJoke
On the bright side, think of all the pets that have gained loving families for life as a result of this pandemic
ohnolola
This is also my worry. People adopting pets while in isolation and then abandoning them again whe things are back to normal.
icantworklikethis
Thought about this too the other day..
ovelanimimerkki
A lot of them probably will. That's why I'm still postponing getting a cat. When I get one, I want to be sure I can keep it.
Eatswearlove
In Belgium shelters are full of pets being abandoned due to stupid rumour that covid 19 is transmittefd via pet fur.
f1photog
OMG, that's horrible.
davebeastly
I can tell you that as a pet owner my cat is super happy that I'm home all day she's started sleeping next to me while I work in my PJs.
Notafactualcat
Christmas pets come in at a time when everyone is busy and has travel plans. No one is busy now and isolation creates strange bonds
Blacink
Sadly it will... Either they can't afford the pet or they have to go back to work
Superchief86
I was just chatting to a lady at work about this. Probably a lot of pricks who just want to be able to make "My furry co-worker" posts.
Redtrashpandagirl
Work at a pet store, can confirm- so many people are buying new pets because their kids are bored. Really worried for returned pets soon
AtypicalMammal
Dude, the shelters in my area are getting completely empty. Dogs are the new toilet paper.
Taxicat
Go the fostering route: it’s inherently temporary, you’re still helping, and there’s less of a commitment issue.
pushingchildrenintotraffic
I, too, like animals more than I do other people.

I was gonna get a kitten next month after moving house. I got it this month instead before everything closes and they’re all euthanised.

Shelters in Denmark is volunteer work. And it’s no kill shelters.
analnipple666
Now if only merica could catch on
SometimesAfox
Yeah but it murica they can’t even catch on to free healthcare
AlaskanX
I want to assume that shelters wouldn’t dismiss employees simply because they don’t have a whole lot of contact with the public...
Hendlton
But if they're not deemed essential, the employees wont be allowed to go to work.
cattywumpus
many shelters run on volunteer labor. My local shelter has 2 paid employees. most volunteers have been asked to stay home.
Janivire
Wow... I had never thought of that and now I'm sad my apartment doesn't allow pets...
LicensedAdHominem
Does your landlord sniff around for cat litter?
Janivire
No. But my roommate with a animal hair allergy would snitch in a second.
Reofrax
I wanna get a puppy but with work everyday im worried about leaving a puppy alone 8 hours a day.. maybe one day ? miss my doggos
farfarawaysaway
That's why I got an adult rescue!
Reofrax
Thats a good idea! Gonna look into that when my job isnt Hanging by a thread due to corona. That kinda doggo u got???
Lfa3
If you want to go for a smaller doggo and have the cash for it, think about having 2. They'll keep each other company.
farfarawaysaway
I have a small lab mix, she's 40 pounds but looks just like a lab. So easy to train and really nice
