It is dangerous in particular because any mutated creature will be confused with the usual hellborn fauna of Australia.
fredhoffman1968
that's not radioactive poisoning , this is radioactive poisoning ...
maelstromverbae
Rio Tinto keeps losing radioactive material in Utah too, they're very good at it
layinginbedfeelinglikeaquesarito
“Rio Tinto…”has been the subject of a series of controversies in recent years, said it was sorry for the alarm that had been caused.”

Is losing such a small item difficult? nope, it's actually Super Easy, Barely an Inconvenience™

Sorry really doesn’t cut it in this situation
ChickenChickenBurningBright
In '86 I took a physics lab and we had several of those Cesium capsules. The instructor's only warning was "don't put it in your pockets"
weidermeijer
“… and now I can’t have kids.”
Shaodyn
They lost something highly radioactive. "Sorry" isn't going to get the job done here.
AmbroseWolfinger
“The gauge was found broken apart and the radioactive capsule was gone. One of four mounting bolts and screws were also missing.”

Rio Tinto, you say. You mean Rio Tinto the corporation the size of a nation? Rio Tinto the corporation that do what they like? Try fine them
JohnBigboote74
Did they check between the seat and center console? Like 90% of the things I lose end up either there or under the couch. Just a suggestion.
PPlank
Or behind the fridge.
IAMSRC
Indeed. I can check there multiple time and don't find missing item until the 4th to 9th time. As they say, 4th to 9th time is the charm.
spidermenz
As they say
weidermeijer
Great. Now the lost french fries are radioactive.
JohnBigboote74
It'll heat them up a little, so I don't see the problem.

Hulkaroos, glowing cannibal Koalas and radioactive giant spiders. Not seeing much of a difference to the local fauna to be honest.

I had advanced insect civilization under the world’s deserts, damn it.

Forget planet of the Apes. Now we're gonna have planet of the spiders.
Googlhupf
If you take the Fallout series for scale, I don't even wanna think about the horrors Australia would provide.

The good news, the animals can't go any more deadly. The bad news there might by new deadly animals.

It’s Western Australia...I think the population is 6. They’ll figure it out.

I hope we get new deadly Australian possums. I really had to struggle to think of an Australian animal that isn't already deadly.

As soon as I read the name I was like "These fucks!? Again!? Strip mine that company and burn them for energy!"
TeamToasterNeverForget
Without saying your lying, how can it be 46000 years old? Oldest man-made ruin is 10-15k years old..?
Havok707
Because you're thinking buildings, these are caves and rock faces with paintings dating 50k years back. And still in use for spiritual stuff

Oldest *city* is 10k years old, human art and habitation dates back several tens of thousands of years
VeyaVictaous
Australia Aboriginals are largely ignored by western historians. They have Ceremony sites that show up to 50,000 years of use.
Ruderali
I think because back that far its not strictly "human" modern aboriginals arrived about 26000 years ago and replaced/mixed with the local /1
Ruderali
Denisovans and Neanderthals.
isetprettygirlsonfire
I use those same density meters, the radioactive source should be in containment, not sure how they would lose just the capsule.
pandemicpolemic
That username has me a little concerned, radiation and density meter knowledge aside.

My other awesome job, take a peek through my posts for a glimpse
somnif
The gauges were bolted to the bottom of a crate. A bolt came loose, gauge rattled around and broke, bits fell out the bolt hole.
somnif
Now, how this hunk of steel, tungsten, and lead rattled sufficiently to break apart I have no idea.
isetprettygirlsonfire
Yup baffling. Gauges get lost or stolen with their sources. But I have never heard of someone losing the source before
