#31 It's actually possible on vinyl records to increase playing time at the expense of dynamic range/sound quality by moving the grooves closer together.

The Cheat is grounded! We had that light switch installed for you, so you can turn the lights ON and OFF! Not so you can throw lightswitch raves! No let's go break open that glow stick and pour it into Homestar's mountain dew.

#79 I'm sorry, did you just say that nobody has ever heard of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah? Leonard. Fucking. Cohen?!

Seriously?

#10 was created as a way to resolve bar fights before they happened.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

#10 #83 The Guinness brewery also owned pubs, and the record book was basically set up to make having quizzes easier (and avoid fights). The Michelin tire company also started producing maps and guides for drivers, and that way ended up also giving ratings to restaurants.

A bit like Nokia started out in rubber wares, like rubber boots and tires, then diversified to cabling, from there to electronics, then computers and data communication, and finally to mobile phones.

#7 Hitachi doesn't make those anymore, they sold the patent.

And the world is a worse place for it.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They still make trains tho, and the Class 80xs look enough like dildos.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They sold off a lot of product lines, including their once-terrific power tools.

#79 he doesn't mean that North Fox Island is literally Epstein's island. He means it was like Epstein's island in that it was used as a base to secretly abuse children. Epstein's island is Little Saint James island in the US Virgin Islands. North Fox island is in Lake Michigan.

Guinness started tracking world records to settle arguments in pubs before the days of the Internet. Michelin started rating restaurants to encourage people to drive to them in the early days of motor cars.

#17 This is why hardware stores are lame. The stores I go to have many double-ended male plugs in all shapes and sizes.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That's a sex store, sweetie.

#17 my dad made one to mess with me when we were building our house. I plugged one end in, unwound it and held the other end before I realised what the fuck was going on. 230V is quite a zap... That motherfucker (it's my dad, so I can say that) was working by himself for the rest of that afternoon. God dammit.

#7 contrary to popular belief, Yamaha actually makes really decent guitars. Better QC than Gibson, which is really important when you want properly-set tuners and halfway-decent pots.

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Are there any guitar manufacturers who are actually mediocre? I was under the impression they're all "fine", but some are just better.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Well, that’s a complex question, because different product lines from the same brand can come from completely different places with different quality control standards. And they change over the years, too- Fender’s Mexico branch used to churn out garbage, but now their products are amazing. Meanwhile, Epiphones used to be mostly fine except the low-end ones that were made in the Qindao factory are junk. Of course, now ALL Epiphones come from Qindao, so you do the math.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That doesn’t mean that Chinese factories are bad, btw. They make what the company tells them to make, and they’re good at that- if the company gives them a garbage design, that’s what gets made. By the same token, a lot of American products (like Gibson) have just SHIT qc and have for decades. Eastman (made in China) makes some AMAZING guitars. Korea did, too, in the 80’s and 90’s, and a lot of 70’s Japanese ‘knockoffs’ were better than the real thing. Squire’s Indonesia plant is also great.

the original was showing the contrast between two workers. One sees a circle on a conveyor belt of triangles and takes it to ask the supervisor what's going on. The other just says "I guess we doin circles now."

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Somehow I feel that. Approved.

#1 When they scream about "satanic bands," they don't even pick satanic bands! "Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath! sCaRy SaTaN!"

They never talk about Diamanda Galas' "Litanies of Satan," which is exactly what it says. It's... Unhinged. There's Behemoth. Darkthrone. Gross ass Burzum (racist). Mayhem. Even Venom doesn't get mentioned. They pick KISS. KISS! Goofy dad rock with makeup and merchandise. That's KISS. Y'all don't know nothing about the devil.

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Yep, they're busy losing their minds about Pink Floyd, and Rotting Christ is right there with the dopest name, getting ignored.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You mean Knights in Satan’s Service?
lol ya - the shit people trip on - you are correct.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

definitely heard that one when I was in a catholic school. I swear, kiss is the least threatening band on earth. Next they'll call dave mathews or coldplay satanic

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Satyricon, Bloodbath, Dimmu Borgir, Emperor...

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They gotta pick bands people actually listen to, or else it isn't scary!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

somebody on r/atheist recently asked if we knew of any metal bands that sounded like black sabbath, but weren't super christian focused...we were just aghast at how insane a question that was.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well, I guess if your whole band origin equates adolescent rebellion with Lucifer's rebellion, that *would* make your music thematically Christian, down to the name "Black Sabbath" or the song "NIB". Still, yeah, that's a fucking bizarre question.

(And the answer is doom metal as a genre. Sleep, Saint Vitus, and Electric Wizard, are cornerstones of the genre. Don't worry about "Sunn O)))" they're uhh they're a bit far out)

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In any case the answer is the first Ghost album; Opus Eponymous

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or they claim Beyonce is satanic, or any popular bands or artists who don't babble on about Jesus in every single.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

My mom's favorite story from the Satanic Panic of the 80s was that they would do Satanic prayers in the warehouses over the records. That way they had some fresh hell to bring with them, I guess. She still, to this day, does not understand Metallica lyrics.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

that one at least makes sense, right wing christians have been calling black music satanic forever. That's where the old stigma about rock being satanic comes from, it has roots in blues and jazz, which were largely dominated by black artists during the jim crow era, and thus old racist white people deeply feared their kids being corrupted by the horrors of rock n roll.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

and man...if satan can sing like beyonce well...maybe we should hear him out

And the queen appears to be pregnant. With the wrong king perhaps, is that the joke? I am confused.

2 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 1

And her team won! See? This is known as "the queen's gambit".

(/s; i have no idea, pic is very yikesy and weird. Even as some kinda racist/sexist meme, it's hard to parse)

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You are not confused, the person that put meme text over something else, is. (Also I'm not saying it's DEFINITELY racist, but uh, just look at the colors of the pieces.)
