This guy's apparently seen like two Asian actors in famous roles and thinks he's about a hundred times more clever than he actually is.

My wife is Korean and that’s pretty spot on, but dialect changes dramatically depending on the city

Yeah this needs sound.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Ain't no asian dude gone on stage to slap him..? ????

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't think an Asian is gonna slap an Asian comedian whose main schtick is jokes about being Asian after paying to see exactly that.

Jo Koy is awesome!

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

He uses race jokes like Jim Gaffigan uses food jokes. 60% to 70% of his act of generally low hanging fruit.

Sorry, I grew up in Japan and studied linguistics. Theses stereotypes do not always apply. Just in case anyone thought other wise.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Actually, easiest way to distinguish Korean from Japanese is common sentence-ender "desh'ta" (or "desu") in Japanese and "sumida" in Korean.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I actually hate Jo Koi. I hate comedians that have to make fun of foreign accents to make people laugh.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 8

Accents are funny though. There doesn't have to be a xenophobic/hateful connotation. We all sound funny to each other.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I like jokes that are clever. There's nothing clever about making fun of the way people speak. It's lazy comedy.

Saw him in theater near Boston. He has no idea how to handle a hecklers. Lost me as a fan.

What happened

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

People were talking in the audience. I think it was 2 blonde ladies. He turned up the house lights to full 3 times. And didn't even finish/

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

/ the story he was saying about how he got the name Joe Koy because he was too angry and flustered.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah that sounds wack

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He was unable to handle hecklers

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What are hecklers?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Assholes who go to shows with the intention of fucking with the comedian

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Think of them as trolls who sit in the audience and not in front of a computer

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I thought we were past the stage of lazy racial stereotypes being mined for comedy. Apparently not.

4 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 35

Apparently Asian lives don't matter

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

*looks at St Patrick's Day* There's a reason Irish people stay home

"All Japanese women sound like they're 12 years old." <--- No.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 17

All humor is based on playing on expectations and stereotypes are expectations.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

Not sure why you're getting DV. You have a valid point

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 13

You mean the racial stereotype of Vietnamese people driving past while trying to talk to you?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Idk man, I can tell you as a Korean person I thought it was pretty funny. Most Asians I know love the guy since he's an Asian comic and his-

material is relatable to almost all of our experiences growing up in America. Gotta be able to laugh at yourself sometimes

4 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Nah they'll always be funny.

Also, for reference, see this Simpsons bit from 1994. 1994! https://youtu.be/L104LViQeIw

I didn't think it was that funny. I thought it was tasteless, But what's even more tasteless is being offended for a race that your not a-

-part of like that speedy gonzalles thing that happened.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

especially since it's an asian man making the jokes

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Wait.... He's asian?.... How was I not able to see that?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

In the original (landscape) video, his name is easier to read since it's those giant letters behind him

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He's half & was raised by that side. Understandable that some might not be able to see it, but he's known mainly for joking about his family
