I wonder what definition of “largest” they’re using here? IceCube has a detection volume of a cubic kilometre. So… it’s pretty big in that sense. This looks like it will have more detectors, and therefore be quite precise, but I’m not sure that qualifies as largest.

Super-K is cool as heck. I was involved with a few people from SNOLab when I lived in Ontario, which I believe still has the best shielding of any neutron experiment (6km of water equivalent, in the depths of a nickel mine in Northern Ontario).

I've always been amused thst our early neutrino detectors found less then expected. The opening chapter if Arthur C Clarke's The Songs of Distant Earth has them failing which let's them discover that the Sun is dying... and of course this was written decades before the first neutrino detector was built.

I found this picture in a post on Reddit about the SuperKamiokande detector. It's a picture taken by the detector (underground, at night) of the neutrinos emitted by the sun. I thought it was pretty cool. I can't wait to see what the HyperKamiokande can do.
