Aww, I've been binging Columbo episodes lately. I love that character.

And all the other stupid excuses this asshole 'told' us. Man his spin on shit makes me dizzy.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Alright, then your allies dont need to open it, fat man.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey Muricans. Gas (as you good folk call it) prices haven't skyrocketed in your country. He done fucked it up for just about everyone. And sooner (not later), the cost of everything is going to rise because the stuff that gets transported by trucks that use diesel...

Oil prices are global. Whether that oil is being pumped out of Texas, Alaska, Norway, or Iraq, it will sell for the same price per barrel globally (depending on quality/grade of the oil). The only way to avoid this is for oil companies to voluntarily take a cut in their profits, or for governments to force them to do it. That won't happen. Third option would be a nationalised oil company that doesn't exist to make profit, I guess. Sick of the "we make it so it's cheaper" argument.

Our president playing 1-d checkers here

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To be fair, he did say he wouldn't drag us into a years long war. So if he just gives up and walks away it will be on a short list of times he followed through on a promise.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because Trump lies to his supporters about everything. So they can blame Biden for the gas prices, or something.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This kind of logic is way beyond him & them. They play 4D chess... you know... /s

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Its called profiteering.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Columbo looks like the older version of the dude who does the Tucker Carlson impression on SNLs Weekend Update.

This is the rule.. this is the goal now

Not in the US but I'm glad I switched to a 100% remewable energy electric company some months ago. Besides the obvious benefit to the environment, prices ain't gonna skyrocket for me as much as for people relying on fossil fuels.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And why is he begging for other countries to open it? Weak, spinless, coward

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He probably doesn't even tie his own shoes. Of course he's not going to do anything beneficial.

so you're telling me.... the fucking piece of shit that got it closed doesnt want to open it again? What a cunt

He also said America didn't need any of its allies.
So I can only assume they will soon be closing all of the bases they have around the world in counties that aren't theirs.

4 months ago | Likes 97 Dislikes 0

Honestly don't understand why those other countries aren't doing this right now.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He threatened to close all bases in Spain for instance

Those guys posted there must be pissed. I guess it's way better than Arkansas, no offense.

Pretty sure anywhere in span is better than most or all American states :/

Mission Accomplished - Putin

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because big oil knows they can. Not like anyone will just open up their own oil company and sell it cheaper.

It's a monopoly that heavily sponsors politicians. So our leaders do nothing to stop it while using tax money to give them subsidies too.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because oil is a commodity. So it doesn't matter where it came from, it will all be priced the same. Then you take out some of the supply and don't change the demand, then prices go up.

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Can you say…”profit driven price gouging “ ?

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Nothing he says should ever be misunderstood as truth.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Once again, the "great businessman" demonstrates his complete lack of understanding of how world markets work. Either he doesn't understand or he's lying to us.... or both.

4 months ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 3

Not to defend Trump but you're the fool if you think this is bad for him or his cronies. The US extracts 99% of the oil it uses and has the capability to do more. The strait of Hormuz has 0 impact on US energy independence, so when gas stations and oil companies raise prices in the US, it is just pure profit. It hurts the every man but billionaires and millionaires are thriving.

His handler understood how much it'd benefit him, and he did. The US is basically transferring money to Russia over Iranian schoolchildren's dead bodies.

He's going to bankrupt America. He will cause the next financial crisis by defaulting on the debt payments.

The easiest way to tell if Trump is lying is to watch his mouth. If it's moving, he's lying.

4 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

If it's not moving, he probably fell asleep again.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He lost doesn't understand

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doesn't care either

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

He's desperate for other nations to come and bail him out. Hopefully, after ten years of this shit, they have begun to realize that doing so won't earn his gratitude. A month or so later and he won't even remember they did so.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The more he fucks up everything everywhere, the more other nations will need to step in just to prevent America's complete collapse from taking their country down too much with us in the process. Even with everyone basically trying to remove themselves from American goods, the world's economy is still tied together, so when we have our utter collapse soon, it's going to serious ripple through other countries even if their currency holds course.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He said WE don’t use it. The tankers that supply us oil do… (I honestly believe that’s how he thinks and doesn’t see why that’s a problem for us)

4 months ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

Fat Nixon just removed sanctions on Iranian oil already at sea.

4 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Frankly, Nixon looking like a saint compared to this imbecile. And definitely was a criminal, but didnt want to take down the US government. Loathed him and lived thru his scandalous presidency, but he made some diplomatic moves that made a difference at the time. Was a scumbag however, criminally bombing Laos and Cambodia. But even Nixon would be appalled by the orange plague.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

At this point, I'd be happy to have Nixon back. Hell, I'd be happy to Reagan back. Well, not happy to have them, but less unhappy than this shitshow of dumbfuckery.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s a mixed bag with perhaps a silver lining. Saint Ronnie’s polices were more problematic because they were persistent. Future administrations will be working to unfuck all of Fat Nixon’s fuckups. So perhaps the silver lining is the shitstain Fat Nixon created is going to be very hard, if not impossible for the GOP in the short term to wash out. The next election will be telling as will the one after.

Commodities exchange needs to be made illegal. Egg prices went up cause people bought egg shares at like 5+ dollars a dozen cause they believe prices would rise .. so prices went up.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the long run, inflation will get real, and $ loses the value, he is setup or an enemy of the USA

If gas prices rise up, the price of logistics too, and eventually it reaches your everyday item on the supermarket shelf

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That enemy are the billionaires and giant corporations. They'll keep pulling in the unprecedented profits as the economy spirals out of control. Then as more as more smaller companies close up and more and more people lose their houses, they'll swoop in and grab everything on the cheap. This is very much going to be used as a massive consolidation of wealth and land leading us much closer to a true final stage capitalistic society where everything is rented and nothing at all is owned.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Petroleum and its derivatives are involved in almost every single product. From packaging, to transportation, etc. It effects every markets cost, and therefore effects every single consumer.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because the gas and oil companies are more than happy to jack up prices whenever there's any military conflict, regardless of any actual impact to production or supply. It's gonna fuck up supply lines and raise prices for sure, over the next few weeks and months. Overnight? That's just straight up gouging. Because they can.

4 months ago | Likes 279 Dislikes 14

Sure, but it’s also because blocking the strait reduces global supply, so now the same planet full of people needs the same amount of oil, but there’s less supply. Less future supply too, because Israel and America are destroying refineries.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

The fun part is if it ever gets resolved and the supplies come back, the prices aren't going to drop. Thats just the norm. Look at groceries. COVID did impact the supply so prices went up. When the supply came back prices stayed and even increased because we need the goods and we were willing to pay extra. The only solution is to hold the rich accountable. Which is never going to happen until we either collapse or literally fight back

4 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It's a strategy; "Rise like a rocket, fall like a feather."

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's simpler than that. When you strangle supply demand increases across the board.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Except the majority of US refineries run on sweet light crude (which is what comes out of the middle east), and most of Etsy the US produces is heavy crude, which they can't refine. The US exports most of its production, because it's not equipped to actually do anything with it.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes it is. Unfortunately it's a strategy; "Rise like a rocket, fall like a feather."

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Prepare yourselves for $8/gallon gas. It's very likely to happen.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still cheaper than most European prices even before current rises. Welcome to the club

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Public transport in the EU is fantastic. Urban planning in the EU is far better, and no one there needs to drive 10 miles (16 km) just to get groceries. No one in the EU drives 20+ miles just to get work, or worse. A fuckton of people in the EU don't even own a car, because they don't need one. Wages in the EU are generally better than in the US. And EU citizens pay less in taxes than we do.

Comparing EU and US gas prices is fucking pointless.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tried to explain this to a bunch of conservatives when they were bitching about gas prices under Biden shortly after both Russian-Ukrainian and Israeli-Palestinian conflicts began, you think they get it now?

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

No, I do not believe that they do.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

S.2321 - Price Gouging Prevention Act of 2025 [119th Congress]

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That’s the fun part, it is! Just not in the United States of embarrassment.

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yup. No actual correlation. There's simply no global market. Markets that got fossil fuels through the Strait dry up. Markets that get their elsewhere shouldn't blink an eye.

Fucking nationalize the greedy corporations and return to the pre-war price level already!

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 9

Uh huh, because nationalized oil companies are soooooo good at producing things efficiently - have you heard of Pemex and PDVSA? Pemex is a drag on the Mexico it is so inefficient and costs Mexico billions a year to subsidize.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

No. What happens is suddenly the oil that is not going through the straight is worth a lot more because it is available. Countries who used to be their oil from that area are now competing and bidding up oil from other sources raising prices. Terrible take bro.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

You need a haircut, I need a haircut. My barber dies. Do you think your barber isn't going to be seeing more demand and hence his/her prices are going to go up - like, literally immediately.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Why are you refusing to support nationalizing industries that are jacking up prices and fueling inflation?

Do you believe you'll get a yacht, too?

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Witness Pemex and PDVSA and how much they have COST their governments (aka taxpayers) and come back to me. Pemex has 50 billion in debt it can barely service let alone pay back.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How much did Halliburton cost to the world?

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

With the current administration? Do you really believe that would turn out well???

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yep. The price of oil is speculative, not based on supply and demand. The 1979 oil crisis was caused by a FOUR% drop in production. It's all totally fuckin fabricated, the strait of hormuz closing has 0 impact on the US's oil Independence but prices will still go up because it's a privatized energy sector.

4 months ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 9

A 4% change in the balance of a commodity market is MASSIVE and the US is net short crude

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is very little slack in oil supply, and demand is very inelastic. The world can’t just cut back on demand easily, we generally don’t have alternatives, so any significant disruption to supply creates spikes in pricing. That said, the market can be manipulated, and there have been multiple instances where hedge funds have driven up the price of oil without good cause.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The US doesn’t have any refineries that process the type of oil the US produces. We sell our oil and buy oil from elsewhere.

4 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Me when I believe the lie

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 10

It's pretty easy to look up types of oil that are pulled up, the differences in refining each, and the refining capabilities of countries re: each of those types of oil.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same with Russia, actually, their crude oil is impure AF and shit to process, with lots of sand and water in it.
Germany is one of the few western countries with a refinery that is literally specialised for it (due to it having been set up during the time of the Soviet Union, and Russia basically being the oil supply).

Meanwhile, the North Sea (Norwegian mostly) oil, 'Brent', is free of that, but has other issues. For 'optimal' oil, you try to blend different sources.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

There is no such thing an oil independence because its a global commodity so it 100% has an impact on tbe US supply

4 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Me when I believe every word Exxon tells me

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 10

You have no idea how any of this works, do you? It’s a global commodity. If Europe needs oil and can’t get it through the strait of Hormuz, they will buy it from other producers, including US. If they are willing to pay more per barrel, American producers will gladly sell it to them and make more money. And everyone is willing to pay more because they simply have to since almost all transportation globally runs on oil.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Me when I buy into the lie of the US not having energy independence

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No. You just have the economic sense of a grade school dropout like most maga. Read a fucking book instead of reddit

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Except its a global economy. Its effectively restricting supply from a global perspective. Supply goes down, price goes up, this isn't even economics 101 stuff, this is like school house rock level economics lesson.

4 months ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 4

Exactly. Oil is a global commodity. The US grows enough rice to meet domestic demand, but a drought in India is still going to make the cost of rice go up at my grocery store in Pennsylvania. Same with oil. That said, US oil companies absolutely overcompensate and profit from conflict way more than the market fully explains.

4 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Yea but to explain that, it goes into much more depth than the average imgur comment reader is going to stick around for. Its a lot easier to be cynical than to try and actually learn how things worth. Open global trade is a good thing, but it also comes with speculative markets which is why we see prices jump rapidly over something as little as a rumor.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also the us could have weathered the oil squeeze better if trump refilled the federal oil reserve before declaring war with the people who sell oil.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yea but if he did that, he wouldnt be able to flood the market and "reduce" gas prices to ~$2/gallon which he was boasting he would do. So dude tried to have his cake and eat it too.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Too complicated for the tankies.

4 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 8

We're just calling anyone a tankie these days, huh?

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I actually didn't call anyone a tankie. I stated that the quality of understanding a global economy was too complicated for those who are tankies.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

What is a tankie ?

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Originally it was a term for people who make excuses for the violent authoritarianism of 20th century communist governments.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wouldn't be surprised if the idea is something like, someone who would have been in support of the tanks, not the civilians, at Tiananmen Square. Or who would be happy to agree with the modified pictures that showed only tanks there, and not the people resisting.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0
