If you haven't seen the latest video game news: https://x.com/NVIDIAGeForce/status/2033617732147810782

Copycat bullshit. Everyone's trying to take a bite off the OG Slim Goodbody.

I prefer my games to look like games if that makes sense. Only realism I want is the environments. Big open world sandbox games would therapeutic to just walk thro trees listening to wind blow the leaves…. Then get eaten by a T-Rex but hey.. it’d be calming for a minute or 2

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I find this highly insulting. These people do know that game devs and their artists go for a certain style, yes?

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they keep saying that game devs and the artists are heavily involved in it too as a defense but I dont think they realise that just makes us all hate it even more lol

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not some of you lot think I'm promoting this coz I think it's a good thing

Ew...

They were doing so well with 4.5, what a disappointment

wtff?

Hi those are hand drawn and/or AI and not from the official video Hope that helps

4 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 9

It’s a meme and a joke hope that helps

"Please please please like our "AI" garbage, we've sunk soooooooooo much money into it and we're absolutely hemorrhaging cash!" - Nvidia, 2026

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

they should have started with this

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

LOL

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

SCREW AI

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Well played.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm SO glad they got mocked for this, we should be bullying companies and corporations for this shit online, not each other

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@op The map very strongly reminds me of "Shadow Man" from the late 90s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_Man_(video_game)

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well that’s a deep cut

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

4 months ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Best part? You need an entire other 5090 to run it! Just an extra $4284 before tax!

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't forget to remortage your house for some more ram too!

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oblivion is on that list. I don't know what they think it will do with the horrifying abominations people birth in the character creator for that game.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Creating horrible abominations in oblivion is literally my favorite part lol

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And to think, this is why I can't upgrade my 6 years old computer anymore.

4 months ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 1

You meant 16 right? Skyrim on medium-high?

4 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

If you're talking about RAM, that's because of data centers, not AI. Shit like the youtube algorithm.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Lovely.. The "algorithm", which is notoriously shite at figuring out what I'd actually like to watch. Often pushes right wing slop and conspiracy videos, neither of which I'm fond of. Fuck, it doesn't even show me cat videos.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I mean, sneaking right-wing slop in a form that is at least semi-palatable to you is exactly what the algorithm is intended to do

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Except it's not even semi-palatable. It's outright rage bait slop with annoying thumbnails like "WOKE high school student gets SCHOOLED by retired marine - SHUTS DOWN debate with this one word" or some other dumb shit.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I haven't read anything yet, but we can assume this is just an AI pass over over 3D render?

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, it's a filter.

And it's generated live which means that every time you see a character their face will be different.

4 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

So it'll be used for pr()n?

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It already is.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Of course - but then, everything always is. It's often a major driver of new media tech.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thai really feels like 10steps back in the growth of graphic technology. There is no growth or bridging here, just lazy shortcuts.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

yepp, I'm glad they got fully roasted on the internet for it

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Even major gaming news outlets, who usually are on these knees giving the deepest blowjob and reach around, are write hit-pieces about how much of a shit idea this is.
If you want to make your graphics look the quality of a Disney pre-rendered movie... then work toward it, don't just use a lazy filter.
It's as bad as the smoothing filter for pixel games.

Who’s that pokemon?

It’s… *Loud screeching noise*

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good to see there are no racial biases being incorporated into this tech

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I used to buy Nvidia to have DLSS.

In the future I will buy AMD to not have DLSS.

4 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

New iterations of FSR have been quite nice too. Hopefully AMD does not try to imitate here. No one needs this.

4 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Theres some good evidence that it wouldnt be possible at any reasonable level of efficiency. FSR will likely keep getting better but were unlikely to see this type of texture upscaling on AMD

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought you were doing something for the new Hellraiser game coming out.

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

So this is why building a PC cost twice as much as a brand new house

4 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

ha, I wish. Houses are now as expensive as yachts used to be.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

So it grinds up orphans to make the picture slightly lighter

4 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I cannot think of anything I want less than to make all of my games look like generative AI video. Did anyone notice that in their demo they needed/used TWO 5090 GPUs? Great now Unreal Engine 5 will run 100% load on one entire GPU so the other can glance at it, throw away the work, and run 100% load to feed me AI slop. Can't wait to need a 32GB GPU consuming as much power as my oven and generating add much heat, just to play games. Entirely fuck Nvidia and the entire triple-A games market.

4 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

couldnt agree more, RAM is already hard enough to get, I SPAT my drink out when I saw this took TWO 5090's to run?? It feels like they really do not care to see how gamers are struggling to keep up with tech and the state of the economy with it all. Furthermore, we live in a world where some of the most popular games look like animated cartoons like fortnite, borderlands, zelda, so... why

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Here's another article for those that don't use Shitter: https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/artificial-intelligence/nvidia-debuts-dlss-5-for-increased-visual-fidelity-in-games-ai-infused-tech-transforms-pixels-with-photorealistic-lighting-and-materials. Keep up the artwork @OP!

4 months ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 4

Fun fact, there's an add-on for Firefox that automatically replaces all Twitter links with the relevant XCancel link.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

"Gone are the somewhat flat, uncanny-valley facial details on character models, and in their place are vastly superior hyper-realistic replacements. " and yet it still cant fix the fact that every tod howard npc has dead unblinking eyes

4 months ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 1

"Vastly superior" had my eyes roll so hard they still hurt.

4 months ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

Yep. No regards for artstyles

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Neat from a technological standpoint, but fucking weird from a gaming standpoint.

4 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

If you assume their version of gaming is "selling glitzy AAA garbage to the least discerning mainstream consumers" then it's 100% for better gaming.

If you like good gameplay and real frames and developer intended art, it's hot horseshit.

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

He I mean if the AI slop Ads can do it why not AAA??/S

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not neat, very lame

4 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

The comment section on all the articles about this tech is hilarious - DROWNING in bots and bros repeating how 'this is the future' and 'cavemen need to move with the times' and diatribes about 'all their artist friends who love AI'

Fuckin POP already ya God damn bubble...

4 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

If you look at the youtube video comments for this tech, it's hilarious.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The bubble will pop, but like the video game crash of the 80's and the .com crash of the 90's, it's just going to wipe out all the smaller, weaker companies. The bigger, stronger ones will still be here and will keep developing AI until it's a part of daily life like video games and the internet.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Sadly this is most likely what will happen given our current systems.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wow. From stylish artwork to generic AI slop with but a flip of a switch!

4 months ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 12

I think thats a cosplayer in body makeup on the right.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Pretty sure the image on the right is a real human body painter.

4 months ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 3

True, sorry, I was more commenting on the linked promo.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh on that I agree

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's posted by Mcroft07, a known body painter. So yes, pretty sure it's safe to assume it's her on the right side of the image.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

for this one, look at the link from NVIDIA :(

4 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

It has come to my attention that you're too stupid to engage with, go away, hopefully forever.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

Damn what did he do that warrants that reaction

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah uhh no, check who this post is by

4 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

"Announcing NVIDIA DLSS 5, an AI-powered breakthrough in visual fidelity for games..."

AI-powered? Fuck that.

4 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Dlss has been ai powered for literally years. This is absolutely not news. What is different is the new slop instagram filter they're putting over it. Before it was just upscaling and it worked really pretty well. Dlss 4.5 is astoundingly good

4 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's run locally and it's just an LLM, if that helps.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 9

All "AI" are just LLMs.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 8

It's not a Large Language Model that is changing these images lol. It's likely a diffusion model, which is similarly built on scraped images and artwork stolen from the people who actually create things.

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's clearly not an LLM the fuck are you talking about

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Learning language model. I got downvoted for saying facts. I'm sad that I got misinterpreted.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

What. LLM is large language model. That's not what dlss is or has ever been

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well shit. My entire comment section is a trainwreck. TIL derp

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If the new DLSS is really doing that (link, not op's pic), it's fucking ugly as shite. It's horrible. It looks like a shit filter from TikTok rather than a proper enhancement to the graphical fidelity of the game.

4 months ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 5

What's funny is it isn't even that far off. It looks like an AI "beautify" filter over everything.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It literally looks like they localized Midjourney to a 5090.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It just makes me look for retro-styled games from indie devs more. FUBBD (BB=Big Box).

4 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yeah even in the rare cases where it does a decent face without changing the expression or making them creepy having a more realistic face on the regular video game art body model in a regular video game art world just highlights how out of place it is.

And that's like the least of the problems with it if it ever went live on an in-motion game.

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It’s awesome tech but why the fuck did they choose such a bad demo??

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 17

Advancing technology is fine, but if we want a shit spreader spraying us in the face in the comfort of our home, Ktwo has some more ecologically friendly options

4 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Is it, really? 'Cos to me it looks like it just turns _everything_ into the same generic recognizably AI-generated imagery. It might have technically more detail, maybe, IDK, but it doesn't look _better._

4 months ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

And since it's generated it won't be consistent. Every time you look at a character in the game it'll be slightly different, slightly off in new ways. Every time you play a scene the characters will have different expressions on their faces.

4 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

This demo is them cherry picking the best of the best. That should tell you all you need to know about how "awesome" the tech is.

4 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

This demo also required two 5090 GPUs.

4 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It really is (according to Nvidia) so, as someone put it, they really just bought the next decade of RAM to make the "Destroys Art Direction" machine.

4 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

We've been here for a while actually. Ray tracing slapped into games not made for it did the same thing.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

True. Games like Control, Spiderman, and even Minecraft really showed off what it could be like... Then everyone and their mom was like "If we use it game look good!" and boy did it fucking NOT. Ghostwire Tokyo is a great example of it looking FAR better with the raytracing off.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also remakes like Dark Souls did not need lighting engine tweaks because it genuinely killed the intentionality of it. Sometimes things are lit in unnatural ways and that's good
