I like a nice range of news and memes on Imgur, but every other week the USA's dystopia flares up, and it's extremely depressing to even think about. The USA is like a non-stop head-shaking machine, even when there isn't a mass shooting, there's the insane politicians, or some disgusting story about a kid who died because of an insane medical system, or a story of someone who went to jail because of the insane legal system, or some infuriating stat about horrible education, or news that lawmakers have successfully restricted freedoms in line with ISIS. It's so depressing that so many citizens have such garbage support, education, and living conditions, to the point they are horribly disadvantaged by policy that that effectively can't change because they don't know any better, exacerbated by a garbage political and voting system. If the average US citizen knew what they were missing out on, I'm sure things would change, but of course there's the world-wide Murdoch plague that ensures that never happens. I would love to help, but the only thing that I think can work is education, and this post is about the limit of my power.

*Front page edit* Subscribe to me on YouTube or whatever.

I have thought this often, but haven' articulated it in words quite so well. I even stop using imgur for a few days when it gets too much.

I'm an American, I want to turn off American news on imgur.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Remember when imgur was just cats and Dickbutt? I miss that.

4 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 4

Or if the people I mutes posts would actually stop appearing.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I completely agree. This site is rarely the fun it used to be because of the polarised politics in the US. It's a nonstop barrage of tragedy

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

I enjoy the political posts, if that’s the right word. What happens over there has an influence on us. It’s important.

4 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 2

I'm so fucking sick of that shithole country.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

As a Canadian I am compelled to follow the madness because the US being our direct neighbor is like living with a dangerous sociopath.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

You might be able to filter it out by blocking politics or certain tags like, USA, news, or depressing.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Right? I tried looking at just the Funny tag last night, but people still tag the shooting as funny. Trying to get more traction?

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This comes with exceptional timing:

4 years ago | Likes 607 Dislikes 1

Peanut and panko?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Give it a few more years of degradation and the frame subjects will have switched places.. A Kitten?!/The President Ate A Baby! Ha Ha

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

"The president ate a baby" It's AWW-RIGHTTT!

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

I mean we need some way to blow-off steam or we would all go mad.

4 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 1

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We aren't mad enough yet, then

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

These days the mad amongst us want everyone else also perpetually outraged, and IMO it is exhausting and unhelpful.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

I just wanna grill, for god's sake! /s

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I cannot agree more. And so many ppl refuse to tag shit so we cant even avoid it.i lost count of how many usersvi have to mute.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

My friends stopped visiting imgur during Trump election posting. I'm too stupid and still hang around...

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

100%. Imgur used to be a fun escape, now it's just ads and depression!

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

People also tend to twist literally every situation to be about the US as well.

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 3

As an American, I feel the same. Way too often I weep for the inhumanity my country just fucking oozes.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Every other week? Bro, it's literally 24/7. And even on the posts where you avoid it, there's always some fuckstick who *has* to bring

4 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 4

Trump or some other shit up in a completely unrelated post. Filtering, and the abundance of nudes, is why Reddit is better. I mean it has

4 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 4

All the same memes anyways.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

You can block certain tags and reduce the amount of certain topics like politics

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Yeah, agreed. Instead of being the escape from Doomscrolling it used to be, IMGUR now IS my Doomscroll.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

sounds pretty cool, like.. "nothing can stop us now that the Doomscroll is ours!"

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I wish the USA would get its shit together so there wouldn't be so much news.

4 years ago | Likes 1406 Dislikes 17

Or mostly good news like universal healthcare makes it possible to use without money entering the decision to get better.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an American me too

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Am American. 100% agree.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

How else we gonna keep you entertained

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I live here, same.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This. Please don’t tune out our misery. Who will save us if the world turns the other cheek?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, we do to. Imagine living here. It's miserable.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

God me too and I fucking love here. Every time a group of us get together and try to progress the orangutans minions start screeching and -/

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The trend would suggest the opposite of them getting their shit together.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

HEY!! We are trying our best but Conservative-Christians & Republicans alike are the root cause to this whole mess we’re in right now.

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Bahaha, as a fellow American it seems you forgot about voting other parties. The citizens are a problem, too. If you voted GOP/DEM... Cry.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 11

Use your vote however you choose. But the upcoming elections will determine if GOP marches us into fascism. If they win we'll all be crying

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That's the point. Vote another party or write someone in and they won't be able to. It'll force them to follow the people or be corrupt.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Unfortunately not in upcoming cycle of elections. The Democrats need indisputable landslides to vote the Republicans out, to ever get there.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As an American, We're trying, but sadly, we're not making a lot of progress. And I wish i could turn off the news too.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Us too

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It won't. You're probably watching the fall of an empire in real time.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's weird how on imgur I see US decaying in real time, and on my local news there are US diplomats talking about integrity and prosperity

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At the very least there's not the daily embarrassments of the US president?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And, sometime during that process, I hope we fix the media. No more 24/7 bullshit. No more Fox. No more Musk Tweet crap. Just. Journalism.

4 years ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 2

Ah, Senator Armstrong. Good to see you posting.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not sure why I got the downvotes, but I was making a reference. What you said here was similar to something a character said in a game.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

From memory 'fuck this 24/7 internet spew of trivia and celebrity bullshit', which I remembered when seeing your '24/7 bullshit' remark.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah that ls not how this works. There will always be news that sucks. Its the sheer stupidity of US events that is the problem

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm afraid that would never happen. Publications have always been about circulation and rage gets numbers. We're fucked

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Journalism won't be coming back in our lifetimes. Read about this for more anger: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FCC_fairness_doctrine

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember a long long time ago they used cheap yellow pulp paper to print tabloid news, called it yellow journalism. That's what this is.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Why not in our lifetimes? That reads as just another political hurdle (like all the rest). It can still be accomplished.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed I just wanna see cats man. And memes to share. But usersub OC downvoted trump ridicule posts upvoted it's cringe

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an American. Yeah me too but people are scared of too much change and won't do what's necessarily needed to overhaul a broken system.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an American, i wish we would too. But the people in power really like their power.

4 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

I reckon a million people surrounding the Congress, with a guillotine chanting les Miserable songs would work

Please everyone vote. Especially in the midterms. https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

what scares me more is how other Western media and politics has increasingly tried to copy the US. Commercialism, ratings, clicks etc....

4 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

A lot of other coutries Media i owned by USA companies, they also offten don't pay taxes in the country they operate.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Citizens of other countries are smarter than the average US citizen. A lot of them can see through the bs.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Tell that to the people in Hungary...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The USA system works very well for the people on the top.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I'm just hoping it make voters in other Western democracies like my own smarter and more shrewd to the BS.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Propaganda for the ultra wealthy works wonders and capitalists will always side with fascists if you try to give workers power.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Quietly pleased with a somewhat Left swing in the recent Aussie Federal election, despite a few little Trump-lite blow hards.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Why wouldn't they? It *worked* for them and made them stupider rich.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm just hoping it make voters in other Western democracies like my own smarter and more shrewd to the BS.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

One would hope...I see the greedy bastards in my country borrowing from the playbook.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It made the rich richer, but the vast majority poorer.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yep...they don't care who it didn't work for...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That country is fucked

4 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 7

It is fixable but they live in ignorance and arrogance while tolerating failure in their leadership.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 7

This about sums it up.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That is just the outcome of years and years of propaganda.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Sorry that our dystopian hellscape depresses you, I'd be more sympathetic but I'm busy living in it.

4 years ago | Likes 87 Dislikes 21

Be a Refugee stop living in it.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And yet y'all don't seem to really want to change anything.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Complaining within your own bubble is completely useless.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Yeah, no, you're right. This site should absolutely have a filter for it. This is supposed to be an entertainment site. I got here for fun.¹

4 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 9

But now it's all political shit about things most people who comment don't actually know much about. I'm here for MEMES not rage, you twats²

4 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 9

Didn't see the superscript 1 on the first post, so I thought the 2 was an exponent. Like, "You're such idiots, you're twats squared."

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Lmao, well, that's certainly how I felt when I wrote it ?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's a politics filter that gets rid of a lot of it

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I think you missed the point of the post. American political stuff makes me question why aren't you killing people like Ted Cruz. We'd kill

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

our politicians if COVID made us turn parking lots into Hospitals or for the whole Texas power Grid thing. The amount of bad stuff that

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

happens in the US is tremendous An American belief in their countries supremacy despite qualifying as refugees in the 'Free world'.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How do I filter it? Plz

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How do we use it?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If only more people would use it. As is jot even half of them tag their complaints.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Its a warning to everyone. You should be aware of the hellscape that could arrive on your shores if you let right wing fascists grow.

4 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 4

I think the whole WWII/nazi/almost losing all of Europe dealio was enough of a "warning" for just about every other country.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

That's a great mindset for allowing it to grow

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Farage in UK, LePen in France, Orban in Hungary, Lukashenko in Belarus, Erdogan in Turkey.... You aren't paying attention.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I've muted a few users who only do politics. Cuts down on about 33%.

4 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 1

That's a great idea! haven't thought about that.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How do you mute other users?

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Bring up their profile, 3 dots at the top, mute user.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Legend! Thank you! ^_^

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

good tip!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have started to do this too, but the muting doesn't seem to work until you close the tab and come back.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Care to publish the list so we can all mute them too. Maybe we could crowd source a ‘mute America list’

4 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 4

A-mute-rica

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm actually pretty uncomfortable publishing a list. Thought about it, but i feel uncomfortable.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That’s totally fine. I was being a bit flippant and didn’t really expect you to. It’s a great tip though thanks.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm in America and I'd like to mute America.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Plz!

I'm starting to go back to imgur less and less. It's just dokmscrolling at this point and I'm too fragile as it's

Leave your guns and political parties at the border, sign up for socialist Heathcare, Car Insurance and Utilities and it'll be fine.

Hilariously well put. Someone needs to photoshop Karens into the trailer for World War Z and bring this to life. Or is that too scary?

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

That's okay :) Come over. While our systems are corrupt and shitty it's still so much better than the US :)

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

while I'd love to, and thank you, if everyone sane left, it would leave the country in a state similar to a schizophrenic going off meds /1

except that schizophrenic lives in a giant armory and has the nuclear option. /2

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

exactly. I grew up thinking how lucky I was to be born in America™ but now I see that here, I have the responsibility to fight to turn this→

Canadian living on the US border here. Sorry about what's happening down there, but got cold beer waiting for ya.

We already take in people that are willing to work 2 jobs worth for shit pay, so why not. Pls no MAGAs tho, we have enough lunatics in EU.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Well part of the biggest problem is that Americans don't get that the country is so bad they qualify as refugees.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Any refugee from the broken USA is welcome in the UK. If you have medical experience the NHS would like to sponsor you.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm a nurse aide working on my RN, then my BSN right after. I'm hoping to move in 2025. Do y'all need nurse aides?

You can help us deal with our gammon problem, they're very similar to your gops, but without the guns.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please ignore this. Most people in the UK are not racist, and quite pleasant.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How would a Brit say “they terked our derps”?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sorry, I have no idea what you're trying to say. But the UK has many accents and languages. For example the welsh would spray you with >>>

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

phlegm, and the Glaswegians would kiss you. I'm sure you'll find someone whom that makes sense too. Try Norfolk.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I think its a reference to the South Park episode where everyone is saying "They took our jobs" but with a twist then add internet culture

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You think it's bad? Try living here

4 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 16

if people didn't only focus on the bad, it wouldn't look so grim

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Like many/most countries, there are demographics that are rewarded, punished, or left alone. For those in a constant state of struggle (1/2)

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like me, The negative/grim is all that is seen everyday. I / they are so damn tired

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck no. You'd have to pay me many millions to move to a country like the USA.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

A million dollars won't cover your cancer treatment. $50million, and you'll be prolly be fine if u invest some of it.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. 50 is many millions.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ope! I misread "many" and just saw the "a". My ADHD meds hadn't kicked in yet, and I flew past the rest of the word.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No problem. I do that a lot too. It's like my brain just decides to use autocorrect. It even happens when typing.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No thanks.

4 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Exactly. I was about to post this. Us Americans don't even want to be here. Half of our nation is totally brainwashed.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's only venting then?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Idk wtf it is anymore. If a lot of my family didn't live in cartel country, I would've been moved to Mexico. *sigh*

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's too expensive to emigrate

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

^ Truth. I looked into it seriously when we elected the orange one. It costs about $5000, or I'd already be gone. Got family up in PEI.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The orange one ?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I honestly don't know how non-americans deal with all of the very American stuff on imgur. It seems like it's everywhere

4 years ago | Likes 988 Dislikes 13

My brain has got pretty good at telling my thumb to swipe it away almost automatically

4 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 1

That's it, more political posts about the US, just swipe right.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I find it depressing because we can't do anything about it. We can't vote so we have to sit back and watch chaos helplessly.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You messed up with my country and now you mess up my Imgur !!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I woke up to a lot of comments. Thank you everyone, it's good to hear an outside perspective.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depression? Existential crises? Doom scrolling? Exasperation & despair? Some combination of the above...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Simple; thank every person in our history that DIDN'T let or make it go to shit, swear to continue their work, & enjoy non-dystopian life.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I either troll or write some shitty comment in the limit I have and wait for results. Anything else is pointless.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's tiring. I'm coming to Imgur for fun, not american politics or news.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's like watching Jerry Springer, but with guest with very low iq...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is comforting to know that problems in your country are nothing compared to the USAs problems. Except if you live in Ukraine.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This, so much this. As a European I come here for memes, not American political doomscrolling, which is all there is these days

4 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 3

As a Canadian, same. The internet is very American centric and it's pretty inescapable.

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Imgur in particular is based on the US and much of the user base is in the US. It probably contributes to the illusion

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Yup, I lost my cool with it this morning and upset some Americans.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The fact is the internet was born in America, but there's nothing stopping anyone else from developing key places in it

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

It's fucked mate, wish we dinnae have to.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Feels like watching 24h news cycle with some breaks for memes

4 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

Once I get the initial news, I close Imgur for the day. Try again later. Rinse and repeat.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I usually downvote and skip after seeing that it's about it. Yeah, for sure you got a lot of stuff going on, but it's become so much

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I often switch to random and laugh at 2014 memes or people thinking 2016 was bad

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When something major happens I just avoid Imgur for 3-4 days. I also routinely mute people who post a lot of US-centric political stuff

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just downvote every post that mentions Trump, GOP or any other american politics thing. :<

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They downvote it and get called Russian shills, maga hats or baby killers.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Imgur has convinced me that the USA is an awful country

Is fantastic if you take away anyone in a position of power. The land is astounding, the everyday people are often fine if you can break the

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Being from the north, I'm trying to be nice

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We call it disaster tourism, we complain about our countries, come here for a minute and think thank god I don't live in that shit hole

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Spending much less time here... still pop up every now and then, but USA uses all "the space" so I quickly loose interest again

4 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 2

We have no choice. Every political poster tags them "funny" as well so searching for that doesn't make a difference

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I am sorry, yesterday I chose Random, couldn't deal with all that. Too sad even for me, on the other side of the world.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We get depressed, and then realise we don't actually live there, and then there's a sense of relief.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

We are consuming an American product. There's gonna be American stuff.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I got rid of the app for 3 months. Fed up with the ads and US politics. Just reinstalled, don't think I've really missed much

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm about to quit Imgur. They all think that shouting into their own bubble is gonna change their society.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s depressing. We’re all too mildly comfortable and scared to be inconvenienced fighting for solutions. And I feel old.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just mute the accounts that post nothing but news and foreign political stuff.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's interesting because I like keeping updated about what's happening, but it does get a lot. I scroll a lot now.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Visiting less, and muting anyone whose last posts have been about politics, war, weapons etc. Helps a little, but there's always more..

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

auto swipe away, everything just has to be about politics now on the internet, mini reddit alright.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Considering it is an American made and based app, it's not a surprise. Maybe they can region lock imgur content though.

Blissful ignorance to society's issues is a luxury US & EU are running out of. Avoid doomscrolling but engage with politics. We need change.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Mostly I scroll very VERY fast but it also puts some of my life stuff in context so not all bad!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Norwegian here. I've been doomscrolling the past three days. My best friend is is from CA. They're non-binary and are desperately working/-

To get a greencard. They live far North in Tromsø, and my heart breaks for them, and all those innocent oppressed americans every day

I'm trying to convince my wife to have us leave the US. I think she thinks I'm joking. I plan on using vacations to check out possible 1/

Locations. I'm thinking NZ or Iceland. Sounds like your friend has it rough, I wish them the best. 2/2

Consider checking out Ireland, too. Lovely people, lovely place to live and no language barrier.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Things I do: Stop visiting Imgur for a bit, hit random mode and enjoy the old stuff, search by tag, avoid political/emotional titled posts.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a freak show, there are still gems, not many.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Easy! Just offer a non-idiotic opposing view and watch everyone lose their mind.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Personally I just swipe past. Bit like a bad tinder match.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I rarely use imgur anymore because of it. It's been going on since about 2016 now, where half the posts are about Americas issues. Not fun.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Swipe left. Its all you can do..

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fucks with my brain I have horrible anxiety have to constantly tell myself it's not happening in my country

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know of American politics, but long ass misinformed tirades get downvoted

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 16

Which bit is misinformed to you?

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Usually on imgur, it's evangelism or teenagers flirting with revolutionary communism.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 10

Especially that last one is more and more prevalent these days.. "bring out the guillotines" "fuck all capitalism" talk

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 10

That has nothing to do with communism

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

I haven't seen either of those things on Imgur. I'd say most Imgur users are atheist/agnostic and at most the 'communism' is light socialism

I used to travel to US a lot with my former company. One obvious thing was that at any point in time, there was one topic covered in every >

tv news channel and radio station. Same is visible here, even though there is a lot of other topics and memes to fill in the gaps. >

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Personally I just can’t stomach all the posts about US politicians, weird legislations, fucked up election system, lack of health care >

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

and so on. At some point I just skip all posts with a tweet or the face of Cruz or Trump ?

(Greetings from Finland - wishing you guys really pulled your shit together for folks to have a decent, human life in peace w/ each other)

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Some times I just shake my head and sigh.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

It is, but the country is moving towards collapse so it's understandable.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Thanks for your understanding. I’m still sorry though.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Canada has gotten so intimate with USA politics that a canadian said, "well whatever the equivalent of 1st amendment is in Canada!" in court

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The judge was like "lol wut?" People gave more shit about Trump at my work than they did about our own prime minister. Some of them were

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

just echoing "he tells it how it is" 3 years into his presidency. And trying to defend him. Dude. We're in fucking Canada. Neither of us can

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

vote on the fucking guy, or who the next person is. Shut fuck up about that shit. Let's talk about our own god damn country.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... anyways, so yeah, USA politics gets pushed onto everyone outside the USA. DILLIGAF. It would be nice to *chef Ramsey* SWITCH IT OFF!!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a Canadian we are, unfortunately, affected by the gullible mass of voters to the south. They even fund racist protests here.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Idk about desktop, but there's a "Politics" filter it tends to knock out a decent amount of the news

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Funny enough therapist are starting to run into issues where younger generations just don't see the point in trying anymore. We have 1/?

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

An increase in depression and hopelessness because of it all. So we aren't really dealing with it well to be honest. Just hiding it well 2/2

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Tbh I just ignore those posts and don't interact with them. I'm here for memes and fun times, not bad news or those "child killer" posts.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You just get used to it "Oh, another school shooting? How many is that now? Oh another incident of bad police, how many is that now?"

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In horror, as your shit soon gets exported here.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

It negatively affects my mood on a daily basis. It rly is a plague on the internet

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It filters into our own politics. The world follows the US unfortunately.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Honestly I'm avoiding imgur more often. Ever since this site was bought, this type of propaganda trap setting was an eventuality.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

So much this. Imgur is now a tool for propaganda as much as any other news outlet. I agree with the sentiments but also can see the machine

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's enough of a reason to not even use the site

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ready to delete Imgur. Full of american circus news. Depressing shit that sounds fictional - Aussie.

4 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

Just do it, the app sucks and the site is buggy as well

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

America's like a really poorly done dystopian sci-fi movie that going straight-to-video. "People just don't act like that."

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Like watching a daily train wreck, that another train crashes into, then a fire starts, it explodes, then another train hits that pileup...

The Glendale Traincrash.

No words can describe how much pity is felt for most the people and the bewildered rage at them allowing all this to happen at the same time

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Oh so you've been here I see. How was your visit?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Don’t forget the poop

4 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

So amber heard was on the train?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, but only metaphorically

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Poop everywhere

4 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

That's why trains have a caboose

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Then a plane just crashes right into the fire, then a hurricane amps up the fire and incinerates the firefighters, etc etc disaster.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Need to include a tornado in the mix. XD

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's easy, you just stop coming to Imgur. I've been opening the app less and less over the past year and just avoid it when the US flares up

4 years ago | Likes 144 Dislikes 5

And yet here you are, commenting.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 27

4 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

The difference is this person doesn't say "we should improve society" but he says "stop coming here, as I do" yet here he is.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Just block the tags news/politics? Worked for cosplay when i did it anyway

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

To be honest I wasn't aware you could block them. I just open the app and go through most viral. So I'll give that a try thanks.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Same.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, sort of this.I've try to check more Following but since it's not as easy to swipe as most viral/usersub,I don’t come to Imgur as often

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yah I subscribe to some meme dump posters, alpha structural, some science peeps and try to avoid doom scrolling.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Thats a very typically American answer. If you dont like it, go somewhere else. Don't try and fix the problem, just ignore it.

4 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 21

I'm looking on from Europe... Why is it my responsibility to fix problems at the other side of the world, not the people actually in the US?

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's not our country, not our problems, not our fight. That's the difference. Nothing good comes from us getting depressed about it.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Not sure how you expect a random Canadian to solve all of the USA's problems, but I suppose I can try...

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The problem is there are too many problems to fix at this point, and the country is too divided to even try.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I mean, it's also the answer of non-Americans who cba to deal with the circle jerk of doom every day anymore and go someplace else instead.

4 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

Good point. Perhaps, nationalist, would be a better word. I've yet to meet an American that wasn't.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

You haven't met an American that wasn't a nationalist? Almost everyone I know wants to burn this bitch down as much as I do.Even my grandpa!

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

As someone from the UK I don't think it's my responsibility to fix the American's problems. We have our own issues to worry about.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Canadian here. It feels like living in an apartment above a meth lab. I fear for you guys.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

We are being used as a test market for authoritarianism. Once they've got us, they're coming for you next.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The truth is in the comments. Rumblings of fascism everywhere, actual implementation here in the US. We’re the test bed.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Remember, always run your test case with a straw man. As dumb and ridiculous as Trump was, look how far they got. The real push is next.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I like to stay a little bit informed for that reason. When that meth lab finally blows up, we're gonna see some heavy consequences of it

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Muting users who only post these things helps me.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'll have to try that.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Why do mass shootings keep happening?" *Gestures to everything*

4 years ago | Likes 215 Dislikes 21

Trust me. Us Americans wish it would all stop too. This is not a happy place to live, we want change, but it's all rigged against us.

4 years ago (deleted May 29, 2022 7:55 PM) | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

And that is a problem we are aware of. Unfortunately, far too many don't care and they have all of the power in our rigged system.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because Americans won't institute proper gun laws. It's really that simple. Other countries don't have weekly mass shootings

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This post is not wasted, well said and hopefully it will help alot of others to turn off the static in their lives too...godspeed friend

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It feels like the whole wapen thing,.. in the rest of the world only criminals know things about guns/wapens

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Plenty of other countries have people who know about firearms. But they're sensibly controlled, they don't have news hosts and politicians -

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

- actively advocating for terrorism, mental health services are available, medical bankruptcy isn't a thing, economic mobility exists...

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

America is full of deranged, violence indoctrinated, hopeless people. That's what happens when one of the two major parties, half the -

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

- government, is a terrorist organisation full of anti-American assets.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

As I was reading your post a notification came up for a shootout in Oklahoma. One dead, seven wounded, no suspects. God, Goddess help us.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

About 45% of civilian fire arms are owned by 5% of the world population, it is simple math.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

So? This math alone does not change anything. Neither does complaining on Imgur.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wasn't complaining, the opposite actually, I was saying shootings happen cause US has more civilian firearms.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the wildest thing, is hearing the GOP come -this close- to putting two and two together. They've deflected so hard away from guns 1/?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that they're almost acknowledging that material and political conditions in our society aren't healthy and breed these kinds of outcomes 2/3

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But they can't offer actual solutions to those problems either because they're anathema to GOP ideology. And then there's the dipshits 3/4

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

blaming CRT, trans people, or whatever outrage scapegoat du jour, no matter how spurious, while doubling down on more guns everywhere 4/4

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can filter news tags and politics tags.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Only 1 in 5 posts about this sh*t has th3se tags.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That would be a bit too broad a filter.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At least americans finally seem to be angry and want something to change. Previous shootings they're like 'wow how could this have happened?

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 6

*Imgurian Americans seem to be angry. Those are generally the progressives. All these posts only reach their own bubble.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We've been angry.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No nearly angry enough to act on it.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You missed the last decades, their presidents, their governments etc. You just geta glimpse of another bubble now

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bullshit. We've been saying this and we've been outraged for two decades.

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Not outrages enough to really do something about it obviously.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Fuck off. We've been trying to get it done for decades. We made progress them Bush let that shit expire. Ever since then we get stopped (1

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

By the Republican minority. The same reason we couldn't have actual lockdowns, or healthcare, or legal weed, or affordable housing. (2

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I mean, we've been fucking pissed for twenty years and yet, we average more mass shootings than days in the year. Nothing will EVER change.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Sure it will. Just not in our lifetimes. And it will get worse before it gets better. History is cyclical. If that brings you any comfort.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

oh, things will change.. but not for the better.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hello - it's all your fucking guns!!! Guns that no-one has any legitimate need for!!!

4 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 3

Trust me, a lot of us Americans know this. We have a money, leadership, and electorate problem that stonewalls change

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Guns don't just magically move on their on. It takes an individual to make them shoot. Also It called the Bill of Rights, not needs.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Luckily those kids inalienable rights come first!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, congratulations. You identified the problem. Let's just erase all the guns and problem solved!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Would be a start

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Were that feasibly an option, yes, the problem *would* be solved! Guns *are* the problem. Mass knifings are hilariously rare comparatively.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

you got the closest out of the replies, but still so far. Like sure, tell the depressed person to "just stop being sad". That'll help

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Other countries seem to do pretty well. Maybe the difference is that many Americans are massive fuckwads about guns.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's pretty telling that not one gun apologist has managed to answer this simple question: why do mass shootings of this scale and 1/?
