I think about this a lot. I'm like the above. I met my first Jewish person when I was 19 or 20 and I wouldn't have known except the second thing they ever said to me was to tell me he was Jewish. How many people are like that and their only experience will be hearing Jews in states other than Israel defending Israel's actions? What will that make them conclude about Jewish people, if they have see little to no evidence that there are Jewish people who oppose genocide?

On the flip side: the long standing practice of dismissing valid criticism as antisemitism now allows real antisemites to take shelter behind the facade of valid criticism. As someone who is critical of Israel, it's doubly important to check with whom and with what you are associating.

Antisemitism is still around and a threat to people. It's like claiming "I'm not racist, so racism is no longer a problem" Just because you think you aren't doesn't even mean you don't subconsciously act racist.
That said, lumping criticism of Israel's politics and genocide in with antisemitism is simply false. While people of jewish faith can become iraeli citizens, it's not automatic.

The narrative questioned isn't "antisemitism is still around" but "everything everywhere is permeated by antisemitic forces and it's evident because they dare speak out against Israel's genocidal actions". It's the latter that is being questioned.

The problem is she doesn't distinguish between actual antisemitism and the false definition Isreal uses. The result is she ends up downplaying antisemitism in general, claiming it's not a systematic prejudice like racism and people don't really care about Jewish people. Isreal isn't wrong about widespread antisemitism because there isn't a lot of prejudice against Jews; it's wrong because criticism of Isreal isn't an example of that prejudice.

I don't agree with that interpretation/take at all. I see it as them being fully aware of actual antisemitism, and questioning the narrative that every single criticism is part of that antisemitism. I don't see them in any way dismiss actual anti-semitism, they're just saying that the kind of completely permeating antisemitism across every civil rights/huminatarian activist required for that narrative to hold true is a myth. Nowhere in this do they dismiss actual anti-semitism.

Maybe I've just been incredibly lucky in my sample, but the Jews I've known in everyday life have on average been about 15% nicer than their surrounding control group. You tell me you're a Jew, you get that immediate 15% modifier on how nice, honest and sensible I expect you to be. Nuance is hard, I know, but the world must simply learn that it is possible both for Israel being in the wrong and Jews facing unfair antisemitism and have been for thousands of years. We don't live in a fictional story, groups of people aren't objectively either entirely evil or entirely innocent and it is beyond childish to pretend the current behavior of Israel somehow proves that antisemitism is mostly made up.

I'm not Jewish but I live in a historically Jewish neighbourhood of my city. If anything, I think positively of Jewish people. They've done a lot to build their community and to help each other, which honestly more of us should be copying. My first mentor at work was Jewish and he's a kind, wonderful man. But now the businesses that I used to happily patronize are putting up "we stand with Israel" signs and it's not ok. Standing with genocide is always wrong. The Zionists are the ones /1

Way back when i was in school we had one jewish girl. In all the years she was in class her religion wasn't even mentioned until one day, i don't know what issue caused it, she went ballistic and either accused a student or even the teacher of being anti-semitic ( i am in Germany so this carries extra weight here).
She played that card hard and all i remember is how the entire class really soured on her because she overreacted to the point of hysteria.

Chances are the Israeli youth propaganda worked on her, and that combined with the problem that germany still has a lot of antisemitic hate on the streets in the form of attempted / successful arson and other forms of vandalism against synagogues and jewish owned businesses. Saxony is particularly bad for that but if they followed the national news in a jewish paler then that would get a lot more airetime than on the regular news.

While I agree that the two terms have beem purposely conflated, it's also true that neonazis and antisemites use Zionist as a dogwhistle for all jews when recruiting IRL and online, same with globalists and cabal. They're a model minority so people do think of them positively, but still as a kind of other which is why antisemitism is a starter bigotry on the path to full fascism. Jew jokes ate common, and if you have a bone to pick with the finance or entertainment industry blaming 'the Jews' is likely. Antisemitism in the US is not like prejudice against black people because nothing is, but it's still pervasive and fairly accepted.

that's kind of the point of the post, antisemitism is quite rare in the us outside of certain bubbles like conspiracy nuts and neo nazis. But, increasingly we are being told it's rampant by groups trying to confuse criticism of Israel and the Jewish people generally. The two are not one and the same, but, if you can label any criticism of Israel as antisemitic, it works to distract from the actual issue.
