I had a friend who did the same thing this year. "I don't feel like either party represents me and I don't want to vote for them." My repsonse? Well, until our electoral system gets overhauled entirely, you're stuck with one of them either way. The only difference is that you threw away your chance to pick the one you dislike the least. So if you have any complaints about the upcoming administration, I'm ignoring them entirely until you choose to participate.
Your wife is on a bus. The bus is either going to drive over a cliff or stop for ice cream based on how everyone on the bus votes. Your wife didn't cast a vote because she doesn't like ice cream.
I encountered a socialist and his honest-to-god argument was Biden likes vanilla (standard U.S. support for Israel) so he couldn't vote for him but then blamed Democrats for not doing enough to steer the bus toward ice creme and away from the cliff. I was like how in the heck are Dems responsible for choices Republicans make‽
You can dislike the options yet pick one that 1) does the least harm; 2) has some values/policies that align with yours; 3) share values/policies with people you care about; 4) is endorsed by people you care about; 5) is connected with a political party that has values/policies that align with yours or people you care about; 6) is a third party because none of these options appeal to you. There are so many ways to engage with voting, and all of them are legitimate. Not voting is cowardly.
Harris and the Democrats may have their faults, but literally over a million people died because of Trump's willful negligence in handling the pandemic. And let's not forget all the people who die because of racism, police brutality, gun violence, lack of health insurance, lack of reproductive care, malnutrition, climate change, etc. The GOP is a fucking death cult.
My dad is a Trump supporter and my mom is in the same mental boat as your wife, doesn’t get involved, I just cut them both out of my life and my mom called shortly after and I said “you didn’t vote” she said “you don’t know who I voted for! You’re doing this because Biden or whoever didn’t get elected?” Thanks for telling me I’m right…
Well, maybe future events will convince her otherwise. I suggest that every time she starts complaining about her rights/income being cut, you point out where Trump or project 2025 said they would do that before the election.
I dont like either of them. ... at best, it's saying that you don't like pancreatic cancer and you don't like the common cold.... but if you had to choose one? "Nope, they're both equally bad."
Choosing between two abusive partners is a better analogy imo. Cos you always have the choice of being single.. Which yea comes with its own issues... But none of them are as bad as being abused.
"oh but this one will abuse you slightly less" isnt something anyone ever suggests as a good reason in a relationship do they?... Not when being single is an option
It doesn't matter if you don't like either of them, you must still prefer one of their policies to the other. Not voting means you don't get to move the needle towards the least bad option, which makes it an incredibly dumb decision even if you dislike both candidates. And not voting down-ballot can affect you on a more local level.
If you don't like either candidate, then it's equally likely you don't care about the outcome either way. So it's not necessarily dumb, because they don't care either way.
Within the specific context of the US 2024 election, if you think both candidates represent the same thing I don't know how to help you. Even if you like Trump for some reason, the two candidates are clearly for different ideas.
If you would divorce your wife over not voting for Harris, you're doing her a favor. Can't imagine someone getting that attached to someone who wasn't attached to you as a voter.
Ask her about how her non-vote has stopped Israel. Ask her about how Trump being elected is going to stop Israel.
Since, you know, that's literally the only argument dumbfucks had against her. Other than obvious misogyny and racism, but those ones were voting for Trump anyway and just like to lie to themselves about being "independents."
Stopping Israel from what? From protecting minorities that otherwise get killed by hezbollah or hamas? Stopping Israel from what? Say it. Say your antisemitic propaganda. Be a good hamas dog!
Stopping Isreal from allowing neutral health care workers, good, general basic aid to reach children. Allegedly targeting civilians, including hospitals, and other forms of acts i can't fathom calling anything other than genocidal warfare.
Our world is truly just fucked up. This isn't even the first attempt at genocide in my lifetime. I will fully admit i don't know if it's the state of Israel's first attempt at it or not-but it's sure as hell the most publicized while ACTIVELY happening that I can remember. Especially when it comes to targeting official neutral aid giving parties.
While Kamala is miles better than Trump, she'd happily continue the genocide in Gaza as well. Claiming she'd be working on a cease-fire while happily shipping weapons that way.
Plenty of people have no idea what the things you just mentioned are, they just don't care about politics and just like to complain about the price of bread
Soooooo, she compared an educated, moral woman of color, to a 34 time convicted felon, rapist, and accused pedophile? Talk about a big ol bucket of stupid.
To be fair, she said she didn't like either, not that they were equivalently awful, and it can suck to feel like you're voting for "the lesser of two evils." But no candidate is perfect, Trump is way, way, WAY worse in every way compared to Kamala, and by not voting, you're complicit in the actions of the winner, whomever that is, because you didn't participate in the most important thing an individual citizen can do: vote.
There wasn't time for a primary, and starting over on fundraising that late in the election cycle would be a death blow anyways. Democrats had zero winning options there, and at least managed to do better in downticket races (due to the funding that Kamala had access to but would have been gone had they changed to anyone else) than they otherwise would have.
Liberals are just as brainwashed as maga idiots. Literally think a candidate who supported genocide is moral. C'mon, don't be an idiot your candidate was absolute garbage and that's why she lost.
I dont see any mention of genitalia in the comment, granted the person of colour brings nothing to the argument other than to point out racial inequality in the system but thars anlther debate.
I can't imagine what it's like walking around and thinking of peoples genitals when you see them. "Oh there's a woman, she has a vagina". So freaking weird.
I asked for trustworthy sources, not for your opinions. I know many people dislike Trump and that's their right to do so, but when someone says someone is a pedophile and a rapist, then I expect a bit more than just "because I said so".
I couldn't find anything trustworthy if Trump is a pedophile and rapist. The only thing I could find that he was found liable for battery but not rape. Still awful enough. It seems if a person is awful enough it doesn't matter to some people to just claim even more awful things without evidence, because why not....
He literally said it himself that he walks into child beauty pageant shows' backrooms, and that he "grabs women by the pussy", and how "women let you do anything if you're famous" (yeah, more like the women don't fight back because they'd get killed, maimed and/or jailed.)
...the judge clarified he was liable for rape and while not convicted, there is proof he spent time with Epstein and multiple allegations from children he raped them.
She laughs when she says that this was controversial in San Francisco, that's it, that's the whole "laugh" you are talking about, she doesn't say "I hope they go to jail haha" or something similar to what you tried to imply in your original comment, and the video is from 2010, like I said she admitted it was the wrong approach, Trump has never once in his life claimed to regret any of the million things he have done wrong, so yeah go fuck yourself for being this purposefully obtuse
There's an uncomfortably large number of people who see Kamala smile and think she is literally laughing at them or some disadvantaged group. Its kinda weird and reveals something about some people's psychology regarding women smiling in certain ways.
First, that is an opinion piece. Second, in the clip, her laugh serves to communicate to the audience because she understands, at a subconscious level, that what she is saying will be controversial to some but she would like them to listen to the whole of what she is saying. This is a completely normal way to communicate. In this example, she never laughed at anyone.
