Well, shit.
Clarification: Of the 27 people I invited, only a few RSVP'd yes, so I hadn't COOKED for 27 people, more like 10.
I was bummed. Despite being a huge introvert, I do like people
...But not as much as I like Weightlifting, Songwriting, and Cooking... ESPECIALLY Cooking...
Admittedly, I'd gotten myself a little bit over-excited... I haven't had a proper "birthday party" in over a decade. I'm not exactly a social butterfly, so this was out of the norm for me, but I still enjoy people and the occasional interaction with them; my goal for today was to have all of my friends show up, enjoy a huge feast I'd cooked for them, drink craft beer, watch the Collegiate Baseball World Series (GO BEAVERS!) and dip in the pool. Generally just have a good time.
Well, it didn't work that way, unfortunately. The people who didn't show don't get to enjoy the food, but I can still share it with y'all!
indigoaura74
I am an introvert myself. However, try going out with small groups of people. You’ll feel more comfortable in a smaller group .
Schnatzoma
Created an account after 4 years of lurking just to congratulate you to your courage and your cooking skills and, of course, your birthday!
douchebaguette
2 friends and your mum there on your bday?? That sounds awesome to me!! Happy birthday, OP! dont forget to smile!!
Bigcurly2000
When you do stuff like that, do you not make sure people confirm whether they're coming at least a few days in advance?!
eyeLied
HUGE introvert but invited 27 people. I'm only an average introvert, and I would invite 2 or 3 people.
iWillKickYourAssForSayinThat
I never got an invite, wtf? Looks amazing though and it's better to have a couple great friends then a bunch of shitty ones.
GRiMLOCKLou
Husbands 21st, invited all his friends, all seemed excited. Confirmed with a few just days before. Supposed to be a surprise party, 0 came
AlloftheUsernamesIWantedWereNotAvailable
That sucks! People are awful sometimes.
DeeranFox
Maybe try inviting other people next time including those 2 awesome people and they will vouch for how fucking bomb ass your food was
aintnohollaback
Happy birthday! I can relate sadly which is why I don’t do birthday parties for myself anymore. But good on you that food looks great!
mdeceiver79
Man that food looks good. Also quality over quantity.
AssamLaksa
I wanna cry for you, man. I'm definitely crying over the glorious food you cooked though.
indigoaura74
I have to admit that I admire someone who tries to throw a party themselves. Takes up a lot of energy and time. 1/2
indigoaura74
2/2 At least you know who your real friends are.
atlasmurphy
This exact thing happened to me. I was upset for months. But gave me perspective on relationships and how to deal with letdowns
LuckySiduri
Man, I'm sorry to hear that. You did an excellent job and it seems so very tasty. Be thankful of those who did show up, those are for real!
barefootworkshopguy
Happy birthday dude! Food looks legit.
msfeatherbottom
Hate to break it to you, but it only partially has to do w/being an introvert. It's a numbers game. Full extrovert here, and 1/2
msfeatherbottom
I typically invite around 40/50 people to parties and expect 8-10 to show up. 2/2
twozerooz
Yup. Ive found there's a variety of factors that affect turnout: weather being #1
troll4you
Honestly people suck sometime, other note yours spreads looks absolutely delicious hope we meet on day lol
shnozie
You still in Oregon? Me and the hubs also like to cook delicious food. We also play nerd games and are introvert/extrovert peoples.
EndeavorsCollector
Same goes here. If you're still in Oregon and are in need of some introverts to awkwardly party and devour that food, we're there!
cawkstriker
I better get an invite next year @op damn, thats one hell of an evening! Happy birthday
onefaller
holy fuck, you cook like that and I'll show up every dame time. additionally, I can teach you to brew. it's *really* easy.
Noahbalboa82
So you didn't make too much food, because you asked for RSVP, yes?
SLAANESHonNSFWposts
Neat, at least you have a lot of good food left over! Sorry you couldn't get a proper orgy going at the after party though.
ZuIthar
always a shame, zulthar is disappointed for OP.
ToxicMolluscinity
"Oh just another threesome *yawns*" - OP, probably
cr796garden
I tried to do this for my 30th birthday. I totally planned the whole thing was paying for the whole thing everyone bailed. No more birthdays
Sackhaden
Aww, don’t NOT have birthday parties after one flop.
twentyfivehundred
Two is a lot of friends.
DeTobiasch
It's two more than I have
ToxicMolluscinity
Two can be as bad as one, it's the loneliest number since the number one
ManBeastWomanThing
First, Happy Birthday. Second, your friends seriously missed out, your food looks amazing.
LesLesVegetables
You have two friends that were honest to you and kept their commitment. Plus, you got plastered on craft beer and burgers with them. Win.
Coolbacca
Did I miss something where the other people confirmed? Just because you invite someone doesn't mean they are obligated to come
Jethrie
RSVP stuff is necessary as an adult. Not blaming you at all. Learned this lesson myself.
meteorcow
100% you need to have people RSVP. Facebook is great for things like this.
drainbamage1011
Even then, I've still had RSVP parties and had a bunch of people back out/no-show at the last minute. Casual friends can be the worst.
thatpersonontheinternet
Those are the ones you don't invite the next year. I know from experience those are "friends" I'd rather see less often.
drainbamage1011
It's irrelevant now. I got a kid and my friends don't come anywhere near my house, lol.
skirtwearingdude
Millennials (of which I am one) have messed this up. "Yes" now means "I will be there unless something better comes up". These people suck.
Nize426
The more you invite, the easier it is to bail.
mattsolid
These days RSVP doesn’t even matter.
LookJustSaying
I disagree. Rsvp is the only way you could possibly plan anything. A fb rsvp is basically useless though.
mattsolid
Sent physical RSVP many times and received half back. Then half of them show up. Not many people want to commit to an event that’s not a WED
Ballsackhands
I don't answer RSVP. If they really want me there I get to change my mind until the last minute or I'd rather not. Still haven't been to a
Ballsackhands
Company Christmas party I've RSVP to and I don't regret it after I hear about the cluster.
mattsolid
Exactly the issue. RSVP is to help prepare a correct amount of food and stuff. You don’t say that you’re coming, I don’t expect you to come.
Bigcurly2000
Yep. For anything with several people, whether it's a houseparty or meal out, I make sure people have confirmed a week in advance, and 1/2
Bigcurly2000
then remind them a couple of days beforehand (in a non bossy way lol, "looking forward to Saturday, let me know of any food allergies" etc)
PuppyDontCare
Exactly! You have to be your own community manager and remind everyone several times before the date. I'm too lazy for that.
CaesarSalad
Then the day of as well. Had to do that for my recent b-day. I asked 3x who was for sure showing up. lol Ppl just don't read events on fb
Knivz
As an adult, I'd rather have fewer good friends than a bunch of shitty ones.
hamberglar
Sounds like OP has both. Hooray!
PiffTheMagicDildo
I have no one. Sometimes I wish I had a good friend to hangout with all the time but then realize that requires energy.
interestingusernamehere
TBH, while I have only 2 or 3 that I consider great friends, being able to call people up during the week for dinner/drinks is pretty nice.
ienjoythings
Amen to that. You don’t need a lot, you need a few but good ones
foolhollow
It's like the saying "I'd rather have a few good quarters than a thousand bad pennies."
underscoreneckbeard
Cheers to that!
yanbroccoli
Agreed
jellydonuthands
It's better to have four quarters than a hundred pennies.
cow042
Got a few good friends in another state, but only 1 in the state I live in because I found the rest were shitty friends a few months ago
smallpoxrandolph
Yea moving around as an adult contributes to this. As do break ups. 1-4 good friends is enough. 1 car load. Be the friend you want to have.
gnilmit
Yup. I have two friends in my life that I can 100% always count on, no matter what, and I married one of them. It works for me.
GoldenRamoth
As an adult: While I have a lot of friends, I never throw parties because of experiences of no one showing when older. But I always attend.
NiNJ45TAR
Fuckin right
andachairaswell
Can confirm. I have like 3 friends. And one is my brother! All quality, dont need quantity.
ScienceDiscoverer
I have 0 friends... FeelsBadMan...
Thelrishlnquistion
I’m 28 going on 29. I have only 3 good friends, down from the 14 or so I had in my teens and early 20s. And I couldn’t be happier.
SeismicCoin
im a couple years older than you and thats exactly how i feel too. the only thing i miss are the 16 player halo lan parties.
RogerSmithIsMySpiritAnimal
Agreed. Quality va quantity.
okayyymovingon
as an adult with kids, i'd take literally anyone over the age of 2 who will talk to me
CmfMttnPpl
Keep your circle small
