A good lot of the "offal cuisine" or Horumonyaki that japan eats stem from 7th century peasants who couldn't afford anything else but the leftover or less desired parts, and then later from korean refuges, who again, could only afford the less desired or throwaway parts.

I mean, we'll happily eat the duck once it's grown up. I always find it interesting where we draw arbitrary lines about what's OK to eat and what's not. Usually it's just "don't eat cute things" more than anything.
