"Thou shalt have no other gods before me." To the religious this might mean to refuse idols, to the agnostic perhaps it means there are many gods, to the skeptic it still isnt proof of god. Even still, if god exists how can he be all good, and all powerful, and we still have freewill? There are too many paradoxes. Psychologically this is because we are making a victim and a victor, a god that will bring us vengeance when we are wronged and mercy when we wrong.

What turns me off to the idea of God is the fact that if you don't worship him and don't do everything he says without question, he'll ensure that you'll be punished and suffer forever. Like, that's the definition an abusive relationship! Leaves a really bad taste in my mouth.

I learned this as a "triangle of limitation" like the fast/cheap/good one for product design. For god, the three are omnipotence, omnibenevolence, and omniscience. Any two may be true and mesh with reality, but all three and reality breaks god.

That's wrong, and a cop-out. Any experience that we go through, is because God considered it and approved it. It won't happen unless God allows it. So when someone uses "free will" to *attempt* to rape a 3-year-old, God has to approve both the action BY the predator and the action TO the victim. That’s a Republican/Christian and, more broadly, nationalist way of looking at things. They tend to avoid taking any kind of responsibility by arguing that we all end up where we do because of our own free will. They believe someone commits a crime simply because they chose to, while overlooking the fact that statistics can be used to predict, with some accuracy, which groups of people are more likely to do certain things or end up in certain circumstances. It’s almost laughable at this point.
