I turned 21 in May. And I have a history of alcoholism in my family on both sides. So I left my wallet at home to avoid being able to purchase any in case someone with me tried to convince me to do so. I am just scared of what might happen if I do.

Being mindful of the alcoholism in your family is wise, but don't let the fear of taking that same path stop you from living your life.

talk to alanon. it's for families of drinkers. my wife had the same feeling you do OP, and they helped her deal with it.

It's okay to approach alcohol with caution, OP. You take care of you.

Just say you don't want to drink. In some places it's illegal to be out without identification.

And at some point you're gonna have to man up.

My mother was an alchoolic. I had the same fear of you. The difference is I learn to stop at the right time. If I feel out of control I stop

I will say if you're careful it's okay, but you do what you need to for your own safety, and good on you for thinking ahead. :) 2
