FUCK all those Italians losing their minds, like eating their way is absolute, fuck off with this bullshit, its my food leave me alone and mind your business. Who the fuck are you to tell me how to eat anything. This is the same message for republican, conservatives and the like, fuck off trying to tell how to live my life.
The food ones are fine and hilarious. I love how passionate they are about it. No need for the tower one though. That's just uncalled for no matter where you are.
Most of these things non-italian people would give the same looks. Breaking spaghetti over your head in public (first one, it's cut for some reason)? Cutting cooked spaghetti with scissors? Adding water to a short black? Parking illegally? And then adding subtitles as if that's what the people are thinking. Half of it staged otherwise, and the rest is just the guy being a troll IRL for reactions.
Jesus Christ just crawl back to your miserable little hole of sadness and despair. Staged or not you can let someone enjoy this. It costs you nothing to just be quiet.
You got a serious issue if other people enjoying something means you feel the need to call it out as bullshit. Everything online is staged these days. Very few people give a fuck.
Yep, they’re probably carefully planned with his Italian friends, especially including the offensive gesture with the street musicians. Probably planned out though on that one!
😂 I remember that one! A few of the reactions in this vid seem decently candid, though I wouldn’t put it past a waiter or two being in on the game. Especially the guy who takes the wine- Italians are decently playful after all.
I wholeheartedly support this. Italians are insufferable about the sacred nature of EXACTLY HOW TO ENJOY THEIR FOOD. I say, let people eat things the way thye want.
I've done it at home while it is still draining in the colander. Makes it WAY easier to eat. But I wouldn't do it out at an Italian restaurant. Unless I did not want to be allowed back in.
I mean . . . Honestly, I just put a smaller forkful against the spoon, and wind a glob up like a big ol' spaghettiball. You don't really have to choose between slurping it and and whipping spatters of sauce on your face, and breaking pasta in half.
I just break the spaghetti into my preferred size before cooking it since full sized spaghetti is a pain to portion (of course I could cook just 1 portion, but I prefer cooking at least a couple days' worth at once). My kitchen, my culinary sins. I don't go to someone else's kitchen to complain that they cook their pasta in Dr Pepper or some such.

Corporatism arising from capitalism where certain companies bet on their national government to increase their profits by killing people and taking resources while the government they back gets getting the public riled up using propaganda and scapegoats and bolsters racial and national pride and like many concepts it exists on a spectrum.
Plenty here and I tell them all the same. Fuck off or why do you care so much what others do? Is your life that boring that you mess with someone elses.
Italians are way too judgmental for a group of people that fought a war that had over 2000 casualties over a bucket, have almost eradicated all their native flora and fauna, whose food is based on vegetables from the Americas and pasta from the Arab and Asian worlds, and whose sport was introduced to them by the British.
Assuming this is not completely fake, why do Italians care so much about how others eat their food? Fuck off people, it's not your food to eat and there's way more serious stuff to get upset about.
I mean it mostly seems to be people spotting someone doing something very strange to them and being surprised and confused, but letting them do it. He however is filming people without their knowledge or consent.
A lot of people are crying fake and staged, but I just watched Xiaoma’s Sicily video last week and this legit happened to him, and his guides told at least two stories of being refused service because they were already eating/drinking something else.
As an Italian I can say that pizza can definitely been eaten as a taco in Italy. Not elegant, but not an outrageous act against the ancient culinary tradition. I would put ice in the wine too, but people will take it back as that bartender did.. so… Ah, and I put the croissant in any hot beverage I take. They are too dry alone.
Why take away the wine? WTF? You don't want ice in your wine? Great don't put it in YOURS. It's like a religion, right? Your religion says you can't do X, so YOU don't do X; you don't get to enforce that shit on anyone else.
It’s a problem of many Italian: to think to know the only right way to eat or drink something from their country and be arrogant about it. I love to experiment instead. But I am not a typical Italian. I love all the world food and I don’t think Italian food is the best, but many Italians really deeply think this.
I’m half Italian, and I break my pasta. I’m not here for goddamn pasta sauce whiplash or spinning my fork for 30 minutes for each bite. I choose violence.
Admittedly, I just try to find the right pasta for the sauce. Chunkier sauces get things like angel hair, thinner sauces will get macaroni elbows or little ears, cream sauces get penne or the like. The best pasta honestly was the waterfall pasta that was invented recently: no sauce whiplash and super absorbing of any sauce you put on it
They take too much pride in foods that aren't even indigenous to Italy and too much pleasure in telling others how and what to eat. If you're not eating it it's none of your business.
By "their" I mean the food they made. Not belonging to them. Of course if you're going to get all arrogant about it, no one is going to arrest you. But they might talk shit if you're too ignorant to follow local customs.
I mean, on the one hand, yes, it's good to have a cultural heritage you're proud of. I can get laughing with a waitress or whatnot. But to the point of taking the food back or throwing something that you own away, you have to admit, is a bit much.
It is not a cultural heritage, it is their culture. However, it is better to explain to the person rather than behaving aggressively like some did in the video.
The ketchup and the ice are the only ones with any grounding. Consumption of a food item not provided by the business on their property. I cant think of many restraunts thatd let me bring my own condiments. May even be a legal rational regarding protecting themselves from assholes poisoning themselves intentionally or otherwise. Theres incidences of people tainting food with brought items for small claims. All that said, those guys were certainly not thinking about that when they reacted.
A well done steak has lost a lot of its flavor, so yeah I guess you need to get flavor somewhere. I did it when I was a kid and went to Ponderosa. They had the most godawful cheap cuts of steak.
Ehh, I would've said "mashed potatoes and baked potatoes" bc mashed potatoes and potato chips have DRASTICALLY different textures while tomato sauce and ketchup have similar textures but just different flavors (much like difference between mashed potatoes and baked potatoes). And I never said "it was the same" but that it was at least in a similar realm. Imagine if the person instead put mustard on pizza
I mean, with the vinegar content, and the fact that most ketchup is only 20-30% tomato concentrate, and that most good pasta sauce actually has at least some real tomato, instead of reduced water that tomatoes were boiled in . . .
I like me some ketchup, don't get me wrong. But it's like soup to chowder, I would not compare them in flavor or consistency or texture.
My wifes family is from Paris. There are rules that suddenly apply when they visit my house for dinner. Its my house. Its my food. But theyre French and we have to do everything their way, Apparently I have no culture. Wine, OMG the bottle cant just sit in the middle of table for all to share. Oh hell no. Grandpa has to hoard the damned bottle (which I paid for) and pour our refills. Cheese? My cheese etiquette is top notch. Even though I HATE red wine I have no choice if were eating red meat>
Holy shite. I'd do everything as glaringly wrong on purpose just to screw with them. You don't come into MY house and impose your arbitrary food fetishes on me.
I'm French, and fuck them. Bottle of wine in the middle of the table and anyone can refill their and/or everyone's cups? Hell yeah. Want to drink white or red wine with whatever cheese? (Or water) You do you. I'm a big fan of blood sausage with apples, though, but again, no one should HAVE to eat anything they don't want to, especially in your own house. And I do make my own hot sauce, so I'm biased on that one, but again: you do you!
Yeah, that is just plain rude of them. And I've made the "haha rude Frenchman" joke already, but it really is not cool. If I go to someone's house, I expect to follow their rules. I'm not going to tell them the correct way to wipe their ass so as to not offend the ghost of St. Patrick (I'm descended from Irish) or whatever. If they visit my house, I'll try to be accommodating to their needs or habits (as hopefully they would me), but if they're going to expect me to follow suit, they can leave.
I'll give you the blood sausage, that is disgusting as a food concept. However everything else i agree - proper breakfast is the most important meal of the day, i see nothing wrong to cap off a meal with dessert ( fruit and yogurt are healthy) and taking your time to eat and use the time to be social also has health benefits.
Treating food like it's work and needs to be done quickly is just the wrong way to go about it.
I dont eat fast. But honestly, these people will sit there for 3 damned hours. Going through aperitif, appetizer, the courses, the fruit yogurt, then a digestive. At a point its like.. dude. Its just dinner. I am literally just sitting here staring at an empty glass and plate watching my father in law chew his food for 20 minutes per bite, pleased as pie. But the entire family is too afraid to excuse themselves because "manners". Fuck that. After 1 full hour I should be allowed to excuse myself.
If he wants to eat food the way he wants inside HIS house, the guest have no say in the matter. I dont care what they do in their home country; going to another country and insisting everyone change for their benefit is peak colonizer.
> Hot sauce. Forget about it. If I put hot sauce on ANYTHING they will freak out and gasp loudly because its simply unheard of. Meanwhile Im like, Lamb and couscous? Tobasco plz! And they are in utter shock. I dont eat breakfast and apparently that is a huge area of concern, they are absolutely disgusted that I dont start my day with at least a coffee. (I hate coffee) Every meal must be finished with a fruit or yogurt-Why? Weve been sitting here for over an hour. Im done eating! Ugh... >>
> Blood sausage is another one. Its disgusting. I hate it. I am a chef and I have made it from scratch. Its disgusting, Just imagine a big pot of boiling blood and lard. Yeah. We have to eat it once a year as a tradition. And I found it is actually palatable with mustard. OMG SHOCK, appall! No apparently you can only put applesauce on blood sausage. And Im like, OK you guys are going to have to work with me on this one here. No one in my house is forcing anyone to eat something they dont want to
Well as a Frenchman you made me smile because I can feel you're not lying. Everything you described doesn't surprise me the slightest. We do it for fun with my friends, but "you do you" is the motto. We do make fun of such people and often will ask them to "fart once". Which means, relax, take it easy. Have a fart.
Sorry. But yeah, those are the base ingredients. Its easy to ignore if youve never made it from scratch. It can apparently be really amazing if prepared properly but after making it the first time for myself I was like, this isnt food. Plus its just feels weird to call around town asking for a half gallon of pigs blood... who does that?
And as the American, I specifically purchase only Spanish wine when they visit. Because they constantly talk about how Spanish is a small brain language, and how Spanish people are stuppid and they have all these problems. Its terrible. And I strongly disapprove. It’s just racism, with extra justification. Even though you and I disagree, Im standing up for you with my "rude" American behavior.
I like blood sausage (and quite a lot of other blood related dishes tbh. Our local stew has blood patties and innards in it and I fucking love it), but I can understand people not liking it. Can't see applesauce being a good fit for it though.
Its typcial to eat Blood sausage with mustard in Germany, so maybe that's extra offensive to them 🤣 Usually sliced on bread or buns.
We also have fried blood sausage which is regionally served with fried apples and onions and mashed potato, but even then I rather have the apples with the potato and not the sausage.
I dont eat 'weird' things that come from miscellaneous parts of an animal, but I gotta say - blood sausage, black/white pudding... amazing. Give that a good sear so you get a nice crust...
I figured if Bourdain liked it so much, I'd give it a go. And I'm glad
That's the funniest part to me. They act as if you have no taste in food, wine, cheese, or dessert... yet, you're a chef. Someone trained in the food world to know and make delicious food. (Maybe not classically French trained, but still a chef as a profession!!)
Medieval peasants who could only afford the scraps off their lords table. Its a retired food gone viral. People needed to survive, we dont need to eat kitchen waste anymore.
Fuck that shit. My house my rules. It's the ONE PLACE I can go and try to have some control over my own life. If you ever played pong or drinking games in college, then you know if it's their house it's their rules. Same thing applies. Don't be a rude guest.
Oh, like I said, I am a chef. And I went through a hot sauce phase actually. Aside from making my own hot sauces I also have a fridge in my basement that has about 40 different varieties, of labeled, branded (not home made) hot sauces. I know all about the tobasco hate. But there are a few foods where I still like to use it. Couscous, steak tartar, and a crispy breaded fried chicken sandwich. For this particular dish I just wasnt feeling sambal olek and went for the tobasco.
I'd make a face and maybe tell a co-worker if someone added something that I thought would taste horrendous to their food, but I wouldn't say or do anything to them about it, it's their life. Like a dog pissing into its own mouth, enjoy yourself buddy, but it's kind of a spectacle.
The people in the vid are getting bent out of shape for no good reason. Not waste. Not rudeness. Simply because it doesn't jive with their concept of a cultural norm. I say get bent. They should stop being so narrow minded and pretentious about such things that don't matter at all. Like cutting pasta. Or eating food with ketchup on it. Seriously fragile people going on in that vid.
Mostly because other people exist haha. I mean it's all within reason, like don't bother anyone and no one will care what you do. Regurgitate your food and drink it again and people will be putting off
Most people in Italy couldn't care less. The stuff in this video (assuming it's not entirely staged) is just plain dumb (do you eat spaghetti or noodles with scissors in your country? Do you water your coffee? Etc.) or exaggerated (people do fold pizza slices like a taco, but not a whole pizza). Those things would cause reactions in any part of the world.
Except those cutting noodles with a scissor, I've seen all of them in public. Water in espresso is just Espresso Americano. Folded pizza is just calzone. Ice can be put in any drink that requires to be cold. Breaking pasta to fit the pot is just convenient. Ketchup is a tomato based sauce. There are no illegal toppings for pizzas. Cheese can make most dishes better.
I'm not Italian and if I saw anyone using scissors to eat their spaghetti, I'd point it out to every single person I could. Seeing something like that is a once in a lifetime experience.
Imagine you're a restaurateur, you've spent a good chunk of your adult life building your business and reputation around selling these incredible cheesecakes, and even longer perfecting the recipé. You've put your heart and soul into your restaurant, and you pour your love into every cheesecake made, hoping that nobody goes away disappointed. Then some fucker decides to pour gravy over his strawberry cheesecake.
Maybe they had an alien parasite infestation and they can't taste anything unless it's covered in gravy. Did they bring the gravy? I'd rather not watch some idiot cover perfectly good cheesecake with gravy, but I don't know their story.
At that point it already changed "ownership" so the customer can do whatever they please. If the restaurateur care that much for their ego then they'll remove all salt, pepper, sauces from the table so the customers can eat the food just the way he seasoned it (which some chefs actually do).
I swear a lot of those michelin-chasing chefs have forgotten the most important thing about cooking
I'd laugh. To each their own. As long as they're still paying for that cheesecake so I can stay in business doing what I love (making cheesecakes) and they like what they're eating, that's all that matters to me.
I say good. It's their food, not yours. Live with it. That's part of being a chef or restaurant owner. People are still allowed to eat how and what they want to. Don't like it? Tough. Get out of the business and go do something better suited for people with fragile egos.
Is he buying it? He could throw it on the floor for all I care. Hell, I might prefer that since a) I would be able to get rid of "lower quality items" and b) he may buy more
... aaaand? Tough shit. My food, my money, my choice. Once that plate hits the table, it's mine to do with as I please in terms of how I eat it. You don't like gravy on cheesecake? Great, don't put it on yours.
Agreed, but pretty sure those bits are all staged. If any of them are real I suspect it's the ones where he just gets weird looks while he films people without their consent or knowledge
Lol then we better see you tell all the people in UK & Europe to stop putting honey, lemon, milk, etc in tea that the Asians have spent "centuries" perfecting.

Seems like they just reacted with surprise to someone doing strange things (and he filmed them without their knowledge or consent)
Slickdoodle
Yeah, well they still use "Witchcraft" as an argument in Court, so what do you want?
NightingGale6
i mean mussolini's granddaughter is in power, so they're already not the brightest
Cutwail
No she's not, she's just an EU MEP out of 73 members of the italian delegation.
SirHonytawk
I like how you only corrected her position, not that she is Mussolini 2.0.
Cutwail
Nah she's talking about the actual Mussolini grand daugther, not Meloni.
lonelyrangerofthedreams
As an Italian I can say that pizza can definitely been eaten as a taco in Italy. Not elegant, but not an outrageous act against the ancient culinary tradition. I would put ice in the wine too, but people will take it back as that bartender did.. so…
Ah, and I put the croissant in any hot beverage I take. They are too dry alone.
TheMomaw
I don't understand taking away the wine after you put ice in. Are they giving your money back or is this just theft?
stonecw
Why take away the wine? WTF? You don't want ice in your wine? Great don't put it in YOURS. It's like a religion, right? Your religion says you can't do X, so YOU don't do X; you don't get to enforce that shit on anyone else.
lonelyrangerofthedreams
It’s a problem of many Italian: to think to know the only right way to eat or drink something from their country and be arrogant about it. I love to experiment instead. But I am not a typical Italian. I love all the world food and I don’t think Italian food is the best, but many Italians really deeply think this.
gatormarc
Especially since ancient Romans used to water down their wine.
daojones75
I’m half Italian, and I break my pasta. I’m not here for goddamn pasta sauce whiplash or spinning my fork for 30 minutes for each bite. I choose violence.
PandAnomoly
Admittedly, I just try to find the right pasta for the sauce. Chunkier sauces get things like angel hair, thinner sauces will get macaroni elbows or little ears, cream sauces get penne or the like. The best pasta honestly was the waterfall pasta that was invented recently: no sauce whiplash and super absorbing of any sauce you put on it
Ghlargh
Half Italian, half spaghetti! *crack*
VibratingNipples
DarkAshelin
Go in the pan my love
gatormarc
I love that you can buy half length spaghetti now in the store.
Checkmate, Italy.
IAmAMammal
I've seen other videos with this man, and he is very kind and loves her so much XD
WarlockWithNoPatron
Oh my God how dare she shit on his culture so terrible no respect /s
GabbyJayYay
First time i saw this i think it said "boyfriend" or "fiance"
whitefoxkei
Well they have since gotten married, so it's still accurate lol
NorwegianSheepknuller
I hope that whenever they have a big disagreement of something she'd passive aggressively break his pasta in half.
CarInAVet
I love that he's still calling her "my love" in his heartbreak.
rezexelon
I think I injured myself laughing at this. And as a person from the South US, I 100% will fold a pizza slice like a taco, but not an entire pizza.
Nykidemus
Not like a full-size pizza, but a personal pizza? Sure
Amythyst
Yeah as an American I object more to the guy next to him eating his pizza with a goddamn fork and knife!
2graves
That's how you eat NY slices!
Peffse
You gotta let it drip!
Badgerbadgerson3
If you take shit that seriously, you DESERVE to constantly get fucked with.
mjperk
The actual definition of "snowflakes."
BlitzerRhames
The police wrote a ticket for what though
Neurisko
The "It's JSUT A PRANK BRO!" dudes are such try-hards. They think they're punk rock, but they're just pretend-punk.
stulfer
Hells yeah let's shit on other cultures! Super proud of imgur right now for being insensitive ignorant cunts.
DamnedIfYouDo
WarlockWithNoPatron
nygreenguy
It's a cultural thing, Italians struggled with identify since they were a bunch of cultures forced together so they used food to unite themselves.
Imademyselfsquirtle
Their culture is do as I say because our traditions are best. Fuck that.
whitefoxkei
Hey, we do that with guns! Haha.... ha.... ehhhhhhh....... Oh gods...
Neurisko
France is super xenophobic about cultural contamination too. There's a committee that decides which foreign words can be accepted into their lexicon.
KrondorMocker
By your power combined...
justfillingthespace
Yeah, welcome to most countries.
buddyalbertaccione
As an italian, this.
arewenotkingsandqueenstogether
Idk I think it's awesome they take pride in their food
GigiDundas
They take too much pride in foods that aren't even indigenous to Italy and too much pleasure in telling others how and what to eat. If you're not eating it it's none of your business.
kruug
Yup...Tomatoes are from Central and South America...they were imported by Europeans in the 16th century.
Badprenup
They can take as much pride their food as they want. Right up until they've given it to someone else. Then it isn't THEIR food anymore
arewenotkingsandqueenstogether
By "their" I mean the food they made. Not belonging to them. Of course if you're going to get all arrogant about it, no one is going to arrest you. But they might talk shit if you're too ignorant to follow local customs.
BishlamekGurpgork
I mean, on the one hand, yes, it's good to have a cultural heritage you're proud of. I can get laughing with a waitress or whatnot. But to the point of taking the food back or throwing something that you own away, you have to admit, is a bit much.
Holedemort
It is not a cultural heritage, it is their culture. However, it is better to explain to the person rather than behaving aggressively like some did in the video.
arewenotkingsandqueenstogether
Well of course, but this isn't actually happening
BishlamekGurpgork
Yeah, but I'm not arguing about the event, but the principle of what's acceptable.
Pishposhbingbong
The ketchup and the ice are the only ones with any grounding. Consumption of a food item not provided by the business on their property. I cant think of many restraunts thatd let me bring my own condiments. May even be a legal rational regarding protecting themselves from assholes poisoning themselves intentionally or otherwise. Theres incidences of people tainting food with brought items for small claims. All that said, those guys were certainly not thinking about that when they reacted.
Pishposhbingbong
Second glance, ice was probably bought on site so... no grounds there!
buddyalbertaccione
Those bits were clearly staged
BishlamekGurpgork
Arguing principle, not the specific event.
buddyalbertaccione
Agreed. But italians are more theatre than action. Particularly about food.
hrrghdrrgh
In their defense, the pasta and scissors thing EVERYONE would be looking on in confusion
VodkaReindeer
Not Koreans
illmeetyouin2129
Ketchup on a pizza is pretty fucking weird, wherever you are as well.
AshenRaine
*always did that, and still does*
Ghlargh
I have known people who put shredded garlic and ketchup on pancakes, nothing surprises me anymore.
Efreeti
Not in Norway and Sweden :)
ExistentialDreadlocks
Sweden puts banana on their pizza, you leave them the hell out of this.
modi123
Ketchup pairs well with a well done steak. https://youtu.be/09uqgELv54o?si=Rq0bWAWp6kQnKqQV
Neurisko
A well done steak has lost a lot of its flavor, so yeah I guess you need to get flavor somewhere. I did it when I was a kid and went to Ponderosa. They had the most godawful cheap cuts of steak.
MCNewYorkLives
Not THAT weird. It's at least in a similar realm of "tomato sauce". I've known people who put chocolate milk on pizza. Now THATS weird.
BishlamekGurpgork
Ketchup and tomato sauce may both have tomatoes in it, but they're about as similar as mashed potatoes and potato chips.
MCNewYorkLives
Ehh, I would've said "mashed potatoes and baked potatoes" bc mashed potatoes and potato chips have DRASTICALLY different textures while tomato sauce and ketchup have similar textures but just different flavors (much like difference between mashed potatoes and baked potatoes). And I never said "it was the same" but that it was at least in a similar realm. Imagine if the person instead put mustard on pizza
BishlamekGurpgork
I mean, with the vinegar content, and the fact that most ketchup is only 20-30% tomato concentrate, and that most good pasta sauce actually has at least some real tomato, instead of reduced water that tomatoes were boiled in . . .
I like me some ketchup, don't get me wrong. But it's like soup to chowder, I would not compare them in flavor or consistency or texture.
METROlD
My wifes family is from Paris. There are rules that suddenly apply when they visit my house for dinner. Its my house. Its my food. But theyre French and we have to do everything their way, Apparently I have no culture. Wine, OMG the bottle cant just sit in the middle of table for all to share. Oh hell no. Grandpa has to hoard the damned bottle (which I paid for) and pour our refills. Cheese? My cheese etiquette is top notch. Even though I HATE red wine I have no choice if were eating red meat>
stonecw
Holy shite. I'd do everything as glaringly wrong on purpose just to screw with them. You don't come into MY house and impose your arbitrary food fetishes on me.
WhatTheFrog
I'm French, and fuck them. Bottle of wine in the middle of the table and anyone can refill their and/or everyone's cups? Hell yeah. Want to drink white or red wine with whatever cheese? (Or water) You do you. I'm a big fan of blood sausage with apples, though, but again, no one should HAVE to eat anything they don't want to, especially in your own house. And I do make my own hot sauce, so I'm biased on that one, but again: you do you!
whitefoxkei
Yeah, that is just plain rude of them. And I've made the "haha rude Frenchman" joke already, but it really is not cool. If I go to someone's house, I expect to follow their rules. I'm not going to tell them the correct way to wipe their ass so as to not offend the ghost of St. Patrick (I'm descended from Irish) or whatever. If they visit my house, I'll try to be accommodating to their needs or habits (as hopefully they would me), but if they're going to expect me to follow suit, they can leave.
EneZio
When people say they hate the French they actually mean people from Paris
FPAlpha
I'll give you the blood sausage, that is disgusting as a food concept. However everything else i agree - proper breakfast is the most important meal of the day, i see nothing wrong to cap off a meal with dessert ( fruit and yogurt are healthy) and taking your time to eat and use the time to be social also has health benefits.
Treating food like it's work and needs to be done quickly is just the wrong way to go about it.
PosthumousExile
As an American, this concept of eating not being something to be done as quickly as possible is completely foreign to me.
METROlD
I dont eat fast. But honestly, these people will sit there for 3 damned hours. Going through aperitif, appetizer, the courses, the fruit yogurt, then a digestive. At a point its like.. dude. Its just dinner. I am literally just sitting here staring at an empty glass and plate watching my father in law chew his food for 20 minutes per bite, pleased as pie. But the entire family is too afraid to excuse themselves because "manners". Fuck that. After 1 full hour I should be allowed to excuse myself.
ArmedandOverclocked
If he wants to eat food the way he wants inside HIS house, the guest have no say in the matter. I dont care what they do in their home country; going to another country and insisting everyone change for their benefit is peak colonizer.
METROlD
Ugh... >>
METROlD
> Blood sausage is another one. Its disgusting. I hate it. I am a chef and I have made it from scratch. Its disgusting, Just imagine a big pot of boiling blood and lard. Yeah. We have to eat it once a year as a tradition. And I found it is actually palatable with mustard. OMG SHOCK, appall! No apparently you can only put applesauce on blood sausage. And Im like, OK you guys are going to have to work with me on this one here. No one in my house is forcing anyone to eat something they dont want to
GordonFreeman59
Well as a Frenchman you made me smile because I can feel you're not lying. Everything you described doesn't surprise me the slightest. We do it for fun with my friends, but "you do you" is the motto. We do make fun of such people and often will ask them to "fart once". Which means, relax, take it easy. Have a fart.
whitefoxkei
lol "fart once." I do like hearing idioms and the like from other cultures.
ThingsThatDontJustifyGenocide
Thank you for letting me know just how much worse blood sausage is than I realized. I'm gonna go quietly vomit in a corner now.
METROlD
HelpfulCorn
Protestors! That would be more fun, too
esparadrapo
Man... I'm Spanish and I can't believe I agree with your French family.
METROlD
And as the American, I specifically purchase only Spanish wine when they visit. Because they constantly talk about how Spanish is a small brain language, and how Spanish people are stuppid and they have all these problems. Its terrible. And I strongly disapprove. It’s just racism, with extra justification. Even though you and I disagree, Im standing up for you with my "rude" American behavior.
zOriginal
Culture is a hell of a drug
Ketheres
I like blood sausage (and quite a lot of other blood related dishes tbh. Our local stew has blood patties and innards in it and I fucking love it), but I can understand people not liking it. Can't see applesauce being a good fit for it though.
Treiskaideka
Its typcial to eat Blood sausage with mustard in Germany, so maybe that's extra offensive to them 🤣
Usually sliced on bread or buns.
We also have fried blood sausage which is regionally served with fried apples and onions and mashed potato, but even then I rather have the apples with the potato and not the sausage.
METROlD
Well maybe thats why I like it that way. All 4 of my grandparents were German. Im American, but my family is as German as it gets.
FallenJester
I dont eat 'weird' things that come from miscellaneous parts of an animal, but I gotta say - blood sausage, black/white pudding... amazing. Give that a good sear so you get a nice crust...
I figured if Bourdain liked it so much, I'd give it a go. And I'm glad
Emuc64
That's the funniest part to me. They act as if you have no taste in food, wine, cheese, or dessert... yet, you're a chef. Someone trained in the food world to know and make delicious food. (Maybe not classically French trained, but still a chef as a profession!!)
Emrys12
What the fuck? Who the hell eats cooked blood and fat? Smh
METROlD
Medieval peasants who could only afford the scraps off their lords table. Its a retired food gone viral. People needed to survive, we dont need to eat kitchen waste anymore.
Emrys12
Uhh, i cant imagine it's healthy or nutritious right? I didn't even know we could eat blood
mjperk
Fuck that shit. My house my rules. It's the ONE PLACE I can go and try to have some control over my own life. If you ever played pong or drinking games in college, then you know if it's their house it's their rules. Same thing applies. Don't be a rude guest.
whitefoxkei
"Don't be a rude guest."
But.... they're French....
KellyanneConwayTwitty
Hahaha
Leithoa
Also inlaws.
2graves
Ok you should get better hot sauce dude.
Chefpnut
I was gonna say at least sriracha or sambal olek (chili garlic paste).
2graves
Lol the poster I replied to mentioned the second one
METROlD
Oh, like I said, I am a chef. And I went through a hot sauce phase actually. Aside from making my own hot sauces I also have a fridge in my basement that has about 40 different varieties, of labeled, branded (not home made) hot sauces. I know all about the tobasco hate. But there are a few foods where I still like to use it. Couscous, steak tartar, and a crispy breaded fried chicken sandwich. For this particular dish I just wasnt feeling sambal olek and went for the tobasco.
uniqueflowsnake
What's tobasco? Is it a tobacco flavored tabasco?
2graves
Well that's fair
esparadrapo
How can you be a chef when you constantly mistake tabasco for tobasco?
METROlD
I cant spell. :( And autocorrect on firefox on a linux PC is not as good as it is on google chrome for Windows.
OriginalAndWitty
Why are people so uptight about the way other people consume things. Like, who TF cares, seriously.
Neurisko
I'd make a face and maybe tell a co-worker if someone added something that I thought would taste horrendous to their food, but I wouldn't say or do anything to them about it, it's their life. Like a dog pissing into its own mouth, enjoy yourself buddy, but it's kind of a spectacle.
TheWombatStrikesAgain
And it's their food. They paid for it.
microcactus
It's staged.
2graves
Some things are wasteful (not really these) or kind of rude/off putting. No one cares what you do in your house
mjperk
The people in the vid are getting bent out of shape for no good reason. Not waste. Not rudeness. Simply because it doesn't jive with their concept of a cultural norm. I say get bent. They should stop being so narrow minded and pretentious about such things that don't matter at all. Like cutting pasta. Or eating food with ketchup on it. Seriously fragile people going on in that vid.
VoidScreamer
How is it rude to eat what I want how I want (assuming I'm not making a mess someone else will have to clean up)?
2graves
Mostly because other people exist haha. I mean it's all within reason, like don't bother anyone and no one will care what you do. Regurgitate your food and drink it again and people will be putting off
thedarkcanuck
It's a pride thing. Food is a huge part of Italian cultural identity. Of course, they wouldn't get offended if they minded their business.
AnOceanOfStars
Most people in Italy couldn't care less. The stuff in this video (assuming it's not entirely staged) is just plain dumb (do you eat spaghetti or noodles with scissors in your country? Do you water your coffee? Etc.) or exaggerated (people do fold pizza slices like a taco, but not a whole pizza).
Those things would cause reactions in any part of the world.
thedarkcanuck
Honestly I'd give the pasta scissors a try just for fun
SirHonytawk
Except those cutting noodles with a scissor, I've seen all of them in public.
Water in espresso is just Espresso Americano.
Folded pizza is just calzone.
Ice can be put in any drink that requires to be cold.
Breaking pasta to fit the pot is just convenient.
Ketchup is a tomato based sauce.
There are no illegal toppings for pizzas.
Cheese can make most dishes better.
WarlockWithNoPatron
I'm not Italian and if I saw anyone using scissors to eat their spaghetti, I'd point it out to every single person I could. Seeing something like that is a once in a lifetime experience.
HaniiPuppy
Imagine you're a restaurateur, you've spent a good chunk of your adult life building your business and reputation around selling these incredible cheesecakes, and even longer perfecting the recipé. You've put your heart and soul into your restaurant, and you pour your love into every cheesecake made, hoping that nobody goes away disappointed. Then some fucker decides to pour gravy over his strawberry cheesecake.
Slickdoodle
Maybe they had an alien parasite infestation and they can't taste anything unless it's covered in gravy. Did they bring the gravy? I'd rather not watch some idiot cover perfectly good cheesecake with gravy, but I don't know their story.
GabbyJayYay
At that point it already changed "ownership" so the customer can do whatever they please. If the restaurateur care that much for their ego then they'll remove all salt, pepper, sauces from the table so the customers can eat the food just the way he seasoned it (which some chefs actually do).
I swear a lot of those michelin-chasing chefs have forgotten the most important thing about cooking
VoidScreamer
I'd laugh. To each their own. As long as they're still paying for that cheesecake so I can stay in business doing what I love (making cheesecakes) and they like what they're eating, that's all that matters to me.
BisAndThighHighs
As a professionally trained chef, once you've paid for it you do what the fuck you want with it, it's no longer my problem.
mjperk
I say good. It's their food, not yours. Live with it. That's part of being a chef or restaurant owner. People are still allowed to eat how and what they want to. Don't like it? Tough. Get out of the business and go do something better suited for people with fragile egos.
thedarkcanuck
Guys! No sloppy steaks, please!
MCNewYorkLives
Is he buying it? He could throw it on the floor for all I care. Hell, I might prefer that since a) I would be able to get rid of "lower quality items" and b) he may buy more
Filanwizard
You should be happy they picked your business.
stonecw
... aaaand? Tough shit. My food, my money, my choice. Once that plate hits the table, it's mine to do with as I please in terms of how I eat it. You don't like gravy on cheesecake? Great, don't put it on yours.
VinnieJonesDiary
Yes you can do what you want, but they are allowed to be disappointed or find it weird.
stonecw
Absolutely … but it’s not OK to remove my food or berate me for my choices of how I consume.
VinnieJonesDiary
Agreed, but pretty sure those bits are all staged. If any of them are real I suspect it's the ones where he just gets weird looks while he films people without their consent or knowledge
arewenotkingsandqueenstogether
Oooor you could have just an ounce of humility and appreciate that there's a way to enjoy the food and drink they've spent centuries perfecting.
stonecw
… there is away: my way.
arewenotkingsandqueenstogether
I'm guessing you haven't traveled much? Respecting local customs costs nothing. Or be an arrogant tourist, no one's stopping you.
GabbyJayYay
Lol then we better see you tell all the people in UK & Europe to stop putting honey, lemon, milk, etc in tea that the Asians have spent "centuries" perfecting.
arewenotkingsandqueenstogether
Would you do that IN Asia, though?
