#2 I don't know if that's their merch, but here in Cleveland Motogo has a fundraiser for bringing back shop class. They have an outreach program that goes to local schools and teaches students how to work on motorcycles. It's a brilliant program and part of the motorcycle co-op Skidmark Garage https://motogocleveland.com/benefit2025
#2 If we bring back shop class we also need to not treat shop class as a "dumping ground" or "program of last resort" for those not suited to or interested in college prep classes like my high school did. (I went to HS in a rich town in northern NJ.)
That was so frustrating. I get that I was just this unguided mass of curiosity in school but I wanted to learn things and shop was interesting. Wood slightly less than metal because the wood shop guy was salty about girls not being forced exclusively into HomeEc.
But they used to have auto shop and that got moved into a 'you're a waste of space' thing that you couldn't take if your grades were too college-appropriate.
Ketchup: the condiment that divides nations, starts turf wars, and turns hot dog vendors into vigilante sauce enforcers. One squirt could land you in culinary courthouse!
#1 Reminds me of the pineapple on pizza argument, who cares what toppings people put on their food. If they think it taste's good then who does it harm?
i dislike the hot dog elitism. or really any food elitism (looking at you Italians). it really is such a whiny, pathetic thing to demand or be upset about.
You're paying for the experience with the street vendors. For the real ripoffs go to LaGuardia airport. I spent ten dollars for a sub sandwich that would typically cost a third of that at the gas station.
#1 What happens when you put ketchup on a hotdog in New York? Don’t make me laugh. In Chicago we’ll pull out your fucking fingernails and kill your firstborn if you put ketchup on a hotdog. Stay in New York if you want your hotdogs tame. Don’t waste our fucking time.
Except, that's a Missouri license plate on the cart, a St. Louis phone number on the sign, and NYPD has blue uniforms. Oh, and NY'rs have no issues with ketchup on a hot dog. Just don't get any on your knish or you'll get shanked.
Certainly not me I'm not standing here holding my phone with the flashlight on thinking 'now how far could it have gone....'
There's a whole self-patdown routine I have to go through just to remind myself that this shit still exists. Sunglasses on head? Hooked on shirt? Okay good. Phone where? Easier search in summer because almost none of those pockets are functional....
Ketchup, mustard, pickled cucumber, fresh onions and fried onions. Best way to go. The danish way to go. I respect other life choices, but I’ve never tasted better than that.
If I request it. Then the vender is not at fault. Also, if you got a problem with what I put on my dog fuck you. Feel free to fucking get your own. Mine is how I fucking want it.
#1 Someone needs to explain the hatred a large percentage of people feel against ketchup. I am a grown-ass adult and I love ketchup. And I constantly run into people scoffing at the use of it. Why? It's tasty!
As a chicagoan, I can't even tell you. No one has been able to justify it to me outside of some "no true chicagoan" bullshit.
I was well into my teens by the time anyone told me not to. So if they wanna be a stuck up pud about it, I make sure to put on extra ketchup. Then I eat it slowly while locking eye contact. If they give me more shit, I say, "a real chicagoan doesn't let anyone tell 'em what to do, ya fuckin' poser!" Just kidding. They're conformist as fuck, but they hate to be told that.
Blow their minds by using a ketchup that isn’t tomato based. Fun fact, ‘ketchup’ refers to a whole variety of sweet/sour vinegar based sauces and historically have been made with mushrooms, walnuts, grapes, oysters, or other bases than tomato.
I don't get it, either, but the hotdog thing sounds so much like all the other brand vs brand rivalries I keep seeing, and how it drills down to within some brands and suddenly you've got threats of violence over ducks and people being shitty because your windows are hand-crank, all the way down to brands of cat food [I can not because fish makes kitty vomit don't know why stop being angry].
Speaking for my own personal taste, I only like it on corn dogs, which is fine because I also only like corn dogs if there's ketchup. Something about that combination just hits right for me.
I'll try to explain: It's insanely sweet with not much else to it. BBQ sauce is basically the same thing, but it has a bevy of spices to carry it. Ketchup is kind of like tomato pancake syrup, and if you're not into really sweet things, then you probably prefer another condiment like mustard.
Completely fair. Tastes vary. What boggles me is the people actually getting mad about using ketchup. I mean, I don't get mad at people for using mustard?
Yeah, I'm not a ketchup person, so I do things like put mustard on fries and onion rings etc... Some people absolutely cannot process that someone would do this. Meh, what do I care what sauce you use?
Two more things: The correct answer for hot dog topping is clearly "Chili". And the secret sauce for everything (from fast food places) is mustard mixed with tapatio. Hot savory mustard!
Very common here in CA. Pretty much every store, and many many restaurants have it. I've seen it similarly in other southwest states. Don't know how common it is in other places.
(less common, but super tasty also is "La Yucateca - green" - also great mixed into mustard.)
I love ketchup. It's a great baseline condiment and works well as an ingredient for other sauces. People hate it because of its popularity, so it's seen as 'basic.'
The funniest thing about vanilla, for me at least, was that it was originally a rare and very much sought after flavor. I love vanilla and use it wherever I can get away with it.
Love tomatoes; hate ketchup. ketchup tastes slimey to me. Superdawg in Chicago has these amazing crispy green pickled tomatoes you can get with their Chicago dogs... That is way better than ketchup.
most of the tomatoes in US grocery stores these day are bland/boring/tasteless/generic trash. - i grow 14 varieties of tomatoes in my garden, I make my own tomato sauce and paste, i dehydrate and pickle some as well. most of my 'tomato paste' is made from roasted tomatoes, peppers, rosemary, garlic, thyme and basil that i puree and strain and can because it's way more than i can eat fresh.
One sauce I make is what I consider a much improved version of ketchup with roasted habanero, piri piri peppers, tomato, garlic, onion + worcerstershire (or vietnamese fish sauce) and agave. - all the veggies are roasted together - I don't use garlic salt/onion salt etc. - I rarely use "ketchup" as a condiment; but when it is called for in a recipe I have this available as a substitute. - also blend a batch with some sour cream or ranch dressing to make an excellent fry sauce for dipping
