Do kids collect stamps?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still think about dinosaurs, LEGO, and pyramids

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It would still be reading... if I hadn't lost all my books to a housemate deciding to use them to try to soak up water in a basement flood. I learned then that I don't have the required safety to buy and own books. It *might* be video games... except I'm kind of lonely these days, and want to play them with online friends. Yet somehow they always are into it for a month, maybe two at tops, then fade away into disinterest for other usually single player games.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Meh, there will be time to sleep when I'm dead.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I do all of these though.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Really? Show us your stamp collection.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

These are stamps from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms to prove that I'm a good boy and in compliance with the National Firearms Act.

And I would like to keep being a very good boy in the eyes of daddy ATF.

As a 45 Year old who went to a drink & draw sessions last night, is going to see one of my old college buddy's band play tonight, and is taking my wife on a date night to a lantern parade and ramen pop-up tomorrow night, that's just LAME adults.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We prefer 'parents'

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

This is lies. No adult sleeps. We pretend to. We tell each other we got a *great* night's sleep last night. All lies.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Usually I have hobbies but today it's going to be sleep. Daughter was up all last night, she has an ear infection and I understand she is in pain, it's just hard getting 3 hours of broken sleep.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

haha no

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What kind of kid collects stamps as their favorite hobby?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Welcome to capitalism, where the arts are stomped in favor of unending profits for the 1%.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Thanks to the internet and my 20s when I had a job, but didn't have a mortgage sized rental, I have all the classic games and music and hobby stuff I could want...as an adult, I have neither money nor energy for any of it. I don't think child me could forgive adult me.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have so much screen time at work that i can't even stand watching a show in the evening often, or play a video game. It's true and very sad. Also too exhausted for sports and most times too late anyways.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Again, 41 (me), 40 (my other), 13 (our kid). We all game. We all stay uo late.there is no difference anymore. The kid games at martial arts and computer. I game after work and after I finish dinner if other doesn't beat me to it. Other just doomscrolls after work and chooses to make dinner or write. They're BIG into A Dark Room in browser.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And just like all my other hobbies I don't have enough time

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Should this be “parents” rather than”adults”? If you don’t have kids, what would you do with your time if not “hobbies”? Like 168 hours in a week… 50-60 hours sleeping, 50-60 hours working… even if you spent hours every day cooking and doing laundry and staring off into space, that still leaves a full time job worth of time for… what? are people just staring into space and doom scrolling 7 hours a day?

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Too exhausted after work these days to do much but doom scroll and disassociate, so yeah. Sometimes I get high so I don't have to think about how shitty everything is but days like today no matter what I do I can't get it off my mind and I end up spiraling.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Damn that sucks dude. Any thoughts on why you’re so tired after work? Sleep/food/health? For me getting good sleep is the hardest.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Painkillers to the rescue

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't judge us!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I hit a rut recently and felt stuck. Just start a class to learn how to make stained glass windows. Been a lot of fun. Oh…and sleep

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not really. Maybe 4 hours in a row.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel like sleep is the guilty pleasure l

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm a adult and can't confirm this. Maybe you doing something wrong if just want to sleep all the time.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just started drawing again. It's difficult because of all the sleep...

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm 38. It's still computer games. To my own detriment. Every day it gets to 2am and I cuss and ask myself what's wrong with me. The trouble is that I do love and need the sleep. But I know the sooner I go to sleep the sooner I have to wake up and go to work again :(

2 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 1

That’s one of the reason I don’t play games much. I do this already just on my phone/watching TV. Add in games and it’s 4am.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have you thought about being independently wealthy instead of working?

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I would like to subscribe to your newsletter

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That sounds exactly like me. I go through cycles. Like a week of sacrificing sleep for games then a week of games for sleep. It doesn't help that I'm a binger. I can't just play an hour. When I get involved I want to play 4.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Im 38 and I still do gaming. I work nights so have an irregular sleep pattern. Im awake most nights so I sit up gaming on my nights off.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gosh, I want a nap.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

33 and I still love video games. I have sacrificed so much sleep for video games in my life that I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have dementia at like 45 though.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I call myself a game even though I only play maybe 1, maybe 2 games a year and I don't finish them

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You guys sleep?

2 years ago | Likes 262 Dislikes 0

As long as the neighbors kids will allow.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s practice death and I’m ready

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I work from home full-time, I don't have kids, and I eat a low-dose THC gummy before bed every night. I sleep better now than I ever have in my life.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not lately

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I sleep the same way I make pasta, it's either too much or not enough

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You don't always get time for your hobbies as an adult.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I do. But, I often do it wrong.

2 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

That's why it's a hobby instead of a career

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Sleep is part of the grind. Gotta get that bread.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You guys are getting paid?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I never find any time for my hobbies though.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, but I would like to.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its a hobby so its not something you do all the time.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

In this economy?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I'll fucken sleep when I'm dead. Or when the amphetamines wear off I guess.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yo

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was asleep 50 minutes ago when you made this comment, but woke up almost immediately afterwards

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's been half an hour. Stop scrolling, flip the pillow and turn over on your left side for gastrointestinal reasons. Sweet dreams, my dude. v

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just like with most of my hobbies I try to engage with it but often fail miserably at that.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No because if I do I won’t have time for my hobbies.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I still like sports, music, video games...

2 years ago | Likes 116 Dislikes 1

Exactly. And drawing and writing and reading as well.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just music and video games for me, thanks

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I still like reading and drawing too.

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

I still love reading, and literally have bought 10 new books in the last 2 days.

Now I just need to figure out a way to read them while I sleep.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

See, adults don't need to be boring. I do need my nap though.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I do all of those while sleeping. GOML.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Go out, meet lesbians?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still like those things too but having the time to do them is a lot less than when I was younger.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

We all have responsibilities that take up time, but that doesn't mean our hobbies aren't our hobbies anymore

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I am an adult. I would like to say video games still. But honestly, the light has gone out behind my eyes and I don't enjoy gaming anymore. Mostly, I game now when insomnia means I cannot sleep, but it's just to kill time.

2 years ago | Likes 72 Dislikes 1

Don't cling to the person you used to be. The old you enjoyed those things.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

As I grew up I couldn't play the same boring CoD type games I could in my teens and early twenties. I still enjoy games but I had to drastically alter what sorts of games I was used to playing

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I liked early fps. Duke nukem, doom, quake, perfect dark, goldeneye, battle tanks, even something as dumb as the army man toy games lol

Back when we had campaigns, bots, and local coop.

I hate online fps. The toxic community. Repetitive gameplay (can’t have fun customizing different rules). They’re highly recycled.

Plus those were all games outside of the military-esque overdone stuff they pump out now. They mostly had sci-fi/fantasy flavor to them.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I don’t like the label gamer, because i cringe and immediately think of those types who literally just play CoD on a console.

I played so many things, from nes in my starting days to now. Including PC. I even have a few mobile games. Sadly, they’re gachas at heart from mihoyo. But the story lines are great, and so is the writing. And you don’t need to swipe to play them.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I enjoy single player games. I was there at the dawn of multiplayer & I thought it would be incredible. Nope. 100% toxic. I prefer sleep.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Oh no, I never got into try-hard multiplayer games. At LAN parties back in the day, my friends would be on hour 12 of a Counterstrike marathon and I'd be over on the side with some Mechwarrior.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Ooh nigthtime gaming is the best... After a bad/exhausting day I often play long enough that I end up with 3-4h sleep before I have to get back up and go to work again.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The game selection across the board is starting to feel a bit homogeneous. They look different with, and with a different story but the gameplay usually feels too much the same. Helldivers 2 came out recently and I’ve been having a blast playing it. Hits challenging and hilarious when you can get into a decent squad or have friends playing. Just look for some of the gems that are not the AAA overly produced and reviewed games.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so likes and hobbies change over time, but if you like games but are having problems liking games right now, there's a huuuuge world of indie games out there that constantly do weirdass and fun things to tickle your brain with.

I work in the games industry and also games are my primary hobby and I felt the same way about 8 years ago. And then I let myself embrace the weird of indie and early access games and it's been great.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

There are also emulators to play all your old favourites on. Can look a bit weird on non-CRTs, but still good games.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I emulate even newer stuff, like Switch games, not because I'm cheap. I have a real switch and real games for it. But the emulated version is almost always superior. Upscaling, bug fix patches, mods/cheats, save backups, remapping controls.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I emulate Switch on my Fold 5 phone with Yuzu emulator (not shown in this video). A lot of games like Mario Odyssey or Tears of the Kingdom don't run well, but games like Mario 3D World and Super Mario Wonder run excellently. I play Mario Maker 2 on my real Switch for online play.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just crank up the resolution. It can run on a potato now.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Resolution is kinda the problem. CRTs had a weird blurring effect on old pixel graphics. Which they were designed to take advantage of, making them look better than they do on modern monitors, which have crisp and clear resolution for each and every pixel.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's filters for that too

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also really cool effects like enabling translucency on Genesis that doesn't work with pixel perfect displays.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

GOG is also a good resource for this as well, at least for old PC games. *hugs my copies of Dungeon Keeper and Startopia

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, GOG is pretty great, and cheap. I got all the Ultima games for like... $12 or something. One day I might get around to playing them...

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I found the same thing as I got older, then I discovered that my love video games hadn't died, just the type of video games I liked. Whereas younger me enjoyed playing online mp games, fps etc, older me prefers narrative driven games, something with a great story behind it or strategy games that I can chill and take my time with. So I'd suggest that, trying games and genres you never liked before, you might surprise yourself, I did.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No, I still like RTS, RPG, etc games. I just don't have the spark for anything. Not movies or shows. Not games. Not books. I don't even care about sex. I don't really smile anymore. I'm pretty sure I'm depressed.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

or Burnout.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That indeed sounds like depression.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I agree with @woodfolkfae. I'd check in with a therapist. If therapy itself doesn't help, a therapy can help you figure out if you need to see a psychologist; they'll help determine if you might need meds. Nothing wrong with giving it a shot, and online therapy is much more affordable these days.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've done therapy. I found a couple guys that just listen, write stuff down, then offer nothing except bills. I could talk to a wall and get the same nothing. Therapists have been, in my limited experience, utterly worthless wastes of space. Maybe if they could speak, or offer some advice, or ask questions, or something. Shame they don't.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That sucks; I'm sorry that's been your experience. Finding one who works well with you can be tough. If you have a general practitioner you could ask them to refer you to a psychiatrist. Just my two cents.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

I found there are gems out there, but i dont have the time or funds to find them. There is a lot of hot garbage out there.
Thus i’m mostly burnt out.

It also doesn’t help that a lot of stuff is meant to take longer. Stuff with regular content updates, extra long grinds, daily tasks to not fall behind.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And the worst part of all is that developers stopped making games for fun. Most of what is out there is for profit. I watched a company i like start producing repetitive unfinished crap more times than i would like.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And yes indie exists. But there is so much of that out there, finding good stuff is like a needle in a haystack.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Undertale, There is no Game, Minit, Kentucky Route Zero, Queen of Maggots trilogy, Owlboy, Superbrothers:Swords&Sworcery. Just a couple titles from the top of my head, that I really enjoyed. Try some

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Diablo 4 is a great example of a game that was made with zero passion. None of the devs know anything about the genre or play their own game. It's a committee made, paint-by-numbers, tedious live service game just there to sell cosmetic microtransactions that cost more than many whole games.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Biggest let down yet. :(

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I enjoyed sc2 and d3, sure they could have been better, and had rocky starts. Basically didnt live up to their predecessors. But i could at least enjoy them, even if they were put out during the onset of blizzard’s descent.
