Yup. Their industri puts more weight into variety; that each idol should basically be a character that can be monetized and promoted, but overall, it's the looks that count the most. Korea is more about the aspect of "hot n beautiful", while Japan values "cuteness and adorability".

The idol industry in Korea is fucked up, they are all under strict contracts where they have to keep x weight and get tons of surgery (they probably have to pay the company back for that even ) Remember seeing a documentary about it a few years ago, where they said they had to pay for everything the company did for them.

This one guy that was hitting on me last year was super into K-pop and kept talking about how the Korean idols are NATURALLY so beautiful and perfect, trying to claim that they don't get surgeries to alter their looks. And then one time he started saying that the regular women in Korea are ugly and disgusting, he used pretty ugly words to describe them. Lost the last bits of interest in him for that.

That’s the same sorta thing as saying “so fat” but you get upvotes, this world’s literally gone to shit. It’s healthier to be skinny than fat, obviously extremes are not, but fat = heart disease and joint issues, skinny= nothing health-wise unless they have zero muscle or are malnourished with some vitamins.
