“Smart, educated people capable of critical thinking? That’s not what they want. You know what they want? Obedient workers. Obedient workers. Workers who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork…”

Are the electricians and the plumbers the ones gonna work in the new US factories putting all the small screws in manufactured stuff?

Got the clip

My wife said last night that the reason Cheetolini is harassing Harvard is because they didn't let Baron in.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, you wouldn't want any more intellectuals because they ask inconvenient questions such as, "Are you lying?"

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

If Dump stops all federan funding, it's time for Mass to step in and cover them. Let's have the Repugnants argue aginst states rights.

Repeat after me -

*Rich people aren't telling their kids not to get degrees*

Sure, many tradesmen do great, but they have lower levels of W/L balance, health, retirement, and happiness, and higher levels of debt, suicide, disability, & bankruptcy.

The argument that some degrees are worthless is propaganda. Bachelors degrees are simply a key that unlocks an easier life. What degree you get is largely irrelevant. Hell, I studied ancient near east history & am a management consultant.

The right is pushing very hard to disparage education because of a simple but extremely effective model:

Keep them uneducated. Keep them pregnant. Keep them in debt. Keep them unhealthy. Keep them religious. Keep them angry at someone else.

Why do they want us uneducated? Because education is the achilles heel to each of the remaining goals.

Oh, it’s the KKK-blondie. Seen any black people recently?

You think Putin wants smart people in Russia? You think Kim Jong Un wants an educated North Korea? Do you think Iran's Islamic Council wants to educate more people?

The administration needs a better position.

What are LGBTQ graduate majors? What degree would that be?

Electricians, plumbers...Isn't that the Village People thing? I guess the YMCA song has got them confused.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One of the Village People is a cop.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plumbers, contractors, electricians, and other tradesmen can have Liberal Arts degrees, too (including Gender Studies and the like). It’s ok, even desirable to have a populace who is well-educated across a broad base of disciplines outside of their daily work.
They’re some of the most interesting and well-adjusted people I know.
At some point, the US began equating “education” with “work training,” and we lost the love of knowledge just for the sake knowing and growing.

it was about the same point that reganomics made sure that more/harder work didnt translate to more pay/better living. people who are

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

struggling to maintain physical resources like food and shelter tend to stop prioritizing social/mental resources like hobbies.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What makes the trades a decent living is the scarcity, just saying. Doesn’t make anyone straight either.

Pride month starts this weekend and we here in Massachusetts, WHO LOVE OUR UNION WORKERS AND INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND EMBRACE ALL THE COLORS AND LETTERS OF HUMANITY’S RAINBOW humbly request she take the administration’s position and shove it up whatever hole she pleases. Love is love. And I’d love her to f*ck off.

Translation:
"We want fewer people educated enough to challenge us as we transform the US from a democracy into an authoritarian kleptocracy. We still want our clogged toilets fixed, we just don't want to have to pay for it."

the RIGHT wants dumb voters

Doesn't Harvard have over $50 billion in their endowment anyway? They should be able to survive on the own well enough to tell Trump to suck it.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Who needs doctors, engineers, and scientists, right?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

trump only wants what trump needs. and what trump needs is his ego constantly stroked, more money, and vengence on his enemies.

Right, so Barron can go to a trade school

From the administration that’s anti-union and denigrating labor rights and union power. Remember when he gave a speech at a nonunion shop with paid attendees cosplaying as union members? Or Biden joining strikers on the picket line? Because I sure as hell do.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

An interesting position coming from a man with a long history of not paying exactly those kinds of contractors: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2016/06/09/donald-trump-unpaid-bills-republican-president-laswuits/85297274/

When I first moved to NYC, Donald Trump was the only person I was specifically warned about -'Don't do ANY work for him - he acts rich, but doesn't pay his vendors.' I heard some stories if you are interested.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

“trump has been involved in 3,500 lawsuits over three decades.” That’s about one every three days.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well you know who he gets away without paying? Contractors. You know who he has trouble actually stiffing? Lawyers. :P

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well yeah, that’s why we need more, he keeps stiffing them so they won’t do work for him anymore. He needs a new batch of them gullible enough to think he’ll pay them.

1 year ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

It’s amazing how many people think he’s a great businessman after he just refuses to pay people for their services

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well yeah he needs new ones he hasnt burned yet.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So, LGBTQ people cannot be electricians, plumbers?

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

nope. much like liberals, they are too effete for such phyiscal jobs. and being universally pedos, they would be too busy ogling the kids.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Asshole!

and i hate that at least 50% of maga would believe that. at least 65% if trump said it rather than a random progressive on imgur.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is he seriously trying to outlaw education? Is this where he's headed?

1 year ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 2

He has literally called for the Department of Education to be closed down.

1 year ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Not outlaw. Just walk back on the idea that everyone should have the opportunity to get it, and instead making it a privilege.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is the dumbest man in America demonizing education, you mean? Yes.

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

"I love the poorly educated" Thats where you've been headed since 2016

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yes, Trump has frozen federal funding for Harvard and Columbia University. They have revoked hundreds of student visas. They have stopped interviewing, and therefore processing, future student visas. Trump has canceled grants to research universities. The administration is actively trying to weaken higher education the knowledge it produces.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Only for the poor, middle class and anyone whose parents aren’t millionaires. Also for all non-whites

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They want to privatize education. Money there. Also education means you ask questions, get some answers, those aren’t good for people who want uneducated voters. Not necessarily about Trump. This is a long game. Remember that the people who actually make policy are not the president. He is a placeholder essentially.

Rural schools in the US (think normal high school) used to teach higher math, Latin, physics, chemistry, civics...

Then factory work became a thing, and school changed from education to babysitting and training workers. The education standard for highschool has been downhill and getting worse for the past 100 years.

Those in power do NOT want an educated populace, and most of the populace does NOT want education.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where have you been for most of the last decade?

Canada. Lol

Living in the mountains without access to the internet or other sources of world news?

The fact that the Trump Administration stands against queer people, intellectuals and also against paying contractors has not escaped those paying attention.

1 year ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 2

That would be a problem only if more people were paying attention.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Saldy, so many people are not paying attention.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't think there's such a thing a LGTBQ Majors.

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Ages ago LGBTQ issues where mostly part of sociology and political science. Mainly gender studies. Wouldn't want people like that around...

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I heard of Lee Majors, but that's about it.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There definitely is. I dont know if it's at Harvard, and very few people actually study as a major, but it exists.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I didn't know I had to get a degree in that, here I am just aceing it up without one.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, no... LGBTQ GRADUATE majors! Totally different department!

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

There are. It generally goes under "gender studies". At Harvard, they have a Women, Sexuality and Gender major. It is a pretty common major.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

According to https://oira.harvard.edu/factbook/fact-book-degrees/#deg_conc, there were 8 WS&G majors out of 1742 graduates last year, or about half a percent. It is the third least common major out of 11 in the social studies category, never mind the other categories. Like yeah, these majors do exist, but only a handful of people take them.

Make no mistake: the right's obsession with the trades has nothing to do with the trades and everything to do with anti-intellectualism. They don't want people going to college and experiencing life outside of their rural bubble.

1 year ago | Likes 307 Dislikes 4

As a tradespersons you're an ass hole. I have 3 diplomas. Tvm

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 9

also, Barron didn't get in

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

We have Danish Social Democrats doing the same thing. It's disgusting to watch

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They want manufacturing jobs. The reason we don’t have manufacturing jobs is because students going to college made competent American labor far more expensive than the global market. They haven’t suddenly decided to bump wages to draw talent. They cut off options, and force the youth into labor that will never again pay a wage that sustains a life.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're fine with university education, always have been, they just feel it should be reserved for the wealthy. It's been that way since Regan, they were worried an educated proletariat would eventually see through their bullshit so they enacted plans to make education more expensive which is why it costs so much today.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"The strength of the government rests on the ignorance of the people, it knows this, and therefore will always fight against education" - Tolstoy

1 year ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

as a tradesman, fuck everything about this shithead

1 year ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 1

Personally I think we need intellectual tradesmen. Philosophy and liberal studies and shit aren’t really majors you can graduate from and find a useful place in society as. But that doesn’t mean those degrees aren’t important for society. A person with a trade who is well versed in philosophy in their off time is very useful. As is a philosophy teacher well versed in trades

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I've been saying that it would be broadly beneficial to society if *everyone* at least got the general education part of college, regardless of what job they end up in. I always get screamed at for it though.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yup. And I believe shop classes to teach the basics on the trades should be taught also. Not as an elective but as part of graduating criteria (as long as you’re physically able to)

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To be fair....they also know that if they flood those jobs with new hires, the hourly pay for those jobs will fall, netting their rich real estate friends more money because of lower labor costs.

1 year ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 1

But, if people have less money, they have less money to spend on housing. Seems very stupid and backwards, so I'm going to assume this indeed is a republican plan.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And there will be fewer "liberal arts and law" type professionals to help prevent them from being exploited.

1 year ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Finally accomplishing what Ronald Reagan set out to do when he first abolished free college in California as governor (starting with his campaign promises to clean up Berkley in 1966) and then again as President. https://www.bestcolleges.com/news/analysis/threat-of-educated-proletariat-created-the-student-debt-crisis/

Trump is following in Reagan's footsteps to create more of the "poorly educated" people that he loves.
