: "Ocean heat content is the most robust indicator of climate change we have – not just of what is happening in the ocean, but of the entire climate system". Vertical temperature profiles that provide ocean heat content, are "amongst the simplest measurements we can make", she said.
"Lose them, and you lose your ability to track not just ocean warming but the climate system as a whole – they are a proxy for variables that become unavailable the moment the observations stop.

If it's "science" and doesn't make himself or the other oligarchs wealthier. he doesn't care.
youreathing
By design. When there's chaos, Trump can do whatever he wants and blame "no information."
GimcrackGewgaw
Are other countries doing any ocean monitoring?
DYLANLEE79
When the science disagrees with profit the science MUST be wrong!
HandoB4Javert

It is just him trying to do whatever the opposite of "woke" is. I suspect a lot of overlap between the people who hate changing their habits (for any purpose, let alone the environment) and the people who assume climates can never change (except maybe by the will of God).
icantbelieveistillhavetoprotestthiscrap
The frustrating part is that when a Democrat inevitably gets back into office and a disaster happens because of something Trump did everyone will just blame the Democrat, including people who are fully aware that they had nothing to do with it.
Cearnaigh
Especially the people who were part of dismantling the systems before the flip.
icantbelieveistillhavetoprotestthiscrap
I'm still pissed that Trump took away Roe and instead of holding him accountable everyone blamed Democrats for "not codifying it" when it is literally the Supreme Court's job to declare laws unconstitutional. There's no law they could have passed that the SCOTUS couldn't overturn.
GlenL
It will take literal decades for the world to recover from Trump's presidency
RaZorHamZteR
One of the main points in the GoP/ Trump plan is to have their voters/ and others, to know as little as possible... and you just tell him his plan will work??!!
SilentNemo
Every conservative position and ideal relies on ignorance, namely an ignorant population.
RaZorHamZteR
"I Love the Poorly Educated" Such a bitch...
rongoins1
Donnie Russian handlers are telling him to do this or else
cytherians
There is no good reason to do this, whatsoever.
Is there some sort of claim that it's underfunded? Well, hey. Maybe cut back on the ballroom budget and axe the "Triumphal Arc"... because THIS is far more important.
Otomasoteraph
Fuckface need the money for the ballroom, so he can feel safe and find a better way to jump on his own ass and die
sadurdaynight
That's the goal. He thinks the US is the richest nation on the planet that every other nation should grovel to. He's blowing the national debt up, but thinks he can just weaken the dollar to make it go away. He wants to take all the US balls and sticks and go home hoping everyone calls him and begs him to come back. And then he'll ask them to pay up. Everything is a protection racket. It's just being done on a global scale, and he GREATLY overestimates his and US' value.
darkninja2992
That's the point. He's flying us into the bermuda triangle and he wants the window covers closed so we don't see it
lightfoot2
Well if you can't chart the coming flooding then insurance companies won't have to pay for it, right?
iusedtodream
I believe that the point is to kill us all. These old rich men have no dreams. They don't plan for the next generation. They don't love their children or their grandchildren. They know exactly how to destroy the world and that is exactly what they are doing. Enslavement or death: that's all they can imagine.
FiftyShadesOfTiramisu
$47.5 million annually. A drop in the bucket compared to the $200 billion cost of a single severe hurricane like Katrina, not to mention the cost in human lives without sufficient advance warning. And decommissioning the system costs money too, so it won't even save anything in the short term. Nor in the long term, for that matter, because it'll have to be reinstated before long after the first severe disaster that could have been mitigated with sufficient data.
hfctom
So, half a ballroom then?
Elkarlo77
It is even worse. Hurricanes will still be seen, but the Weather Forcast and especially how much rain will come down will be worse. So no warning for Flashfloods or accurate Weather prediction for Farmers. There will be loses in the 3-5 Billion range every year thanks to it and less Tax income.. the Famers alone with their Taxes would pay for the system.
Sebastopol140
Nightcaste
Yep, that's the point. Can't catch good sponsors doing shady shit if nobody can afford to go looking
SirLurkAndSmirkAndSometimesSnark
Every day I grow more sure that a foreign government has essentially won the US election through Trump and his administration in order to dismantle us from the inside.
idiotsonfire
Conservatives want to kill people.
Heelcat70
I'm sure he believes that he knows more about climate science and oceanography than a bunch of "low IQ" scientists.
SleepyHollowAppleTree
This is just "slow the testing down please" all over again, the dumb ass bitch is repeating himself in his dementia.
mercyPandaRunner
It's not his idea, probably. That fucking reeks of rich people and the fossile lobby.
FajitaPrinceofAllMexicans
It's not about that, it's about hurting as many people as he can. He knows his age is catching up to him, and hates that, he wants everyone else to suffer with him.
thekadeshi
It’s an entire political party dedicated to creating a ruling class and then everyone else
lordyhalvey
Science hard. Must remove Science. Science makes us look bad. Remove Science. Morons.
2774
I'm not in favor of any part of this. With that in mind - it would be even easier, quicker, and cheaper to simply stop recording / monitoring the information. Instead they / we are spending money to destroy the existing infrastructure.
Flabbergasted.
Resistance1000
He complains American "fell behind" while doing everything he can to ensure that the process is accelerated. Is China paying him to do it? Is Russia paying him to undermine NATO?
KuldFyt
Surely the man who said we had to stop testing for COVID because it would reduce the number of positive tests wouldn't do something like this!
thekadeshi
* the political party
Epicentr
It's crazy the things I've already forgotten he says. "Flood the zone" indeed
CookieMonstersCrumbs
There is no problem if we can't monitor the problem.
TheBreadTurtle
wish they'd apply that thinking to ICE. can't be any illegal immigrants if you stop looking for them
VibratingNipples
It will cost millions of taxpayer money pulling them out of the water, only to waste more millions to put them back in later when the next president comes in. That not including the hundreds of billions of damages from hurricanes that we can no longer predict
TheJuiceLoosener
Uh, we have a President who knows where hurricanes will make landfall. And we're so fortunate that he has a Sharpie and is willing to share what he knows with the rest of us.
nothingunused
The Kennedy Center is a good example of how this admin spends a lot of money changing things, that we will have to spend more money putting right again someday. Why can't he face some damn consequences?
hfctom
That's assuming the next President will be allowed by the oil companies to put them back in.
khora
I wonder when someone from pentagon is going to tell him they are using them. You need a temperature profile for accurate sonar.
ananfro
Cheeto is one foot in the grave. He doesn’t give a fuck
W0lfsbl00d
He and his masters do care. They're actively trying to let and help disasters come and get worse so they and their buddies can profit off the chaos.
McBzz
The goal was to destroy the west.
KuldFyt
Those two sentences are absolutely unrelated. True, but unrelated.
Leaps
Seriously. Trump doesn't even know about this or care. Media needs to stop putting his name on everything and start saying "Republican plan" to be truthful about where the blame lies.
MajMalfunction2
Someone want to give that pedo a shove, then?
eastend666
You'd think a guy with grandkids - even though he probably doesn't know their names - would think a tiny bit about their futures.
Legomaniac91
He doesn't care about anyone aside from himself. As far as he's concerned, they can all burn with the rest.
TexMexHex
My mother is a voter of his. She does not give a fuck. Her only granddaughter is mixed. She said, and I quote, "I hope he rounds up all the brown people." This demographic thrives on hate and ignorance.
LiminallyInsane
Narcissists don't work that way, unfortunately.
camn333
Counterpoint: he does give a fuck, he just wants to take everyone with him when he dies.

Well, mad scientist. His "mind" was long gone.
fractalsphere
Typical boomer "this won't impact me" attitude.
dghughes
Ah yes random hate of a demographic for no reason.
pullingsixty
And then the down voting because it doesn't fit with their world view.
fractalsphere
1) I didn't downvote you. 2) People who did downvote you probably did so because of you assigning motivations to something you do not know.
pullingsixty
Yeah, that's bullshit. You don't know anything about me.
psmith00
there are a few boomers who have a longer view and realize there will be a world beyond their years. they'll still be concerned but unable to fins a good way o stop all this.
there are several bad ways, though.
pullingsixty
It's a class war, not a generational war. The sooner you get on side with that the sooner it will change for the better.
UnattendedDeviant
Please stop. It's not like maga, Repubs, those who disbelieve the climate crisis are not filled with people of younger generations too. See the Charlie Kirks, Ben Shapiros, Candace Owens, FauxNews pundits, of the country.
It's not a generational war. Many Boomers also drove the push for LGBTQ and civil rights.
fractalsphere
You're right, but who taught those folks? What generation is overwhelmingly responsible for the "I got mine, screw future generations" policies that have been driving the US since the 1970's at least? Boomers grew up in a growth period in the US, the 1950's post-war USA. Then the civil rights movements happened and they collectively freaked out and turned hard right exclusionary conservative. And then passed that attitude down.
UnattendedDeviant
It's not a generational war. The "I got mine attitude" has been around since human kind began. It's been around in the US long before 1970.
It's being "taught" now by every generation and being passed on to future generations.
Like today's generations, you gave the good and the bad in each. Should I condemn all those in Charlie Kirk's generation? Trump is in office because of many younger people voted for him.
It's not a old vs young battle.
embedded
He's in office because they cheated and admitted it multiple times live on air...
UnattendedDeviant
And yet that doesn't negate so many Candace Owebs, Kirks, and Shapiros and their huge followings. Don't fool yourself, there are many younger Reoubs, maga, right wingers. Most if the millionaire rw influencers are young, not boomers.
The younger generations would not be blame-free if you can condemn a whole generation based on the rhe actions and beliefs of their members.
