Yesterday, they were granted a patent on a entirely button less controller.

While I dislike the idea of us no longer owning our games or software, the fact is we have chosen this. Tell me the last time you purchased a CD or DVD? Physical copy. I'll bet, for most people, it has been years.

Well, that one way to say "Fuck you! We want your money not your opinion!"...

That's corporate for "We hear you, we just don't care."

I cautiously pull my dick out, and piss all over your conference table. I gave it careful thought, and consideration. In the end I decided it wasn’t about what you want, and I trust you can’t stop me.

i wish their next console to be an absolute flop

Did you hear how CAUTIOUS we are?

It's a smart move on son's part because people are reactionary. So that'll happen is people just simply won't buy the ps6 and Sony will "retaliate" by going disclose on the ps5 and ps4. People will flood social media throwing out their pa4's and ps5's and then Sony will bring back disc's and people will have to buy brand new consoles. We'll played Sony, well played.

Sony just patented a controller that takes away physical buttons, they just don't want gamers to play games.

Yep! Posted the link to thia bs.
Most patents don't come to fruition, but with Sony's current record...

The market will vote with their wallet. Whether they have made a good choice or bad choice will be seen. a lot of people are already committed to them due to their psplus accounts, so maybe it won't deter people from buying the ps6

I think it needs to start with GTA6. Cancel your pre-orders and do not buy or play the game. Mainly because of the partnership between Rockstar and Sony. It all kinda started over that game anyways.

sure, but what they are likely to see then is a stalling of their growth
i don't have anything newer than a ps3, and i will be very unlikely to get another games console now

i'll just get another PC if this one breaks
one of the reasons i like GOG is they have offline installers which are DRMless

There has been a showing of solidarity, with 1 million PS+ subscribers canceling since the announcement. It hit them so hard that they began to offer people 20-50% off the subscription to bring them back (sadly, some people took it.)
Now there is a blackout planned, but the problem is the same as always.
How do we reach the average person who isn't online and knows about these measures, and just buys Madden or COD every year.

I get why you might be sad that people took the 50% off but its an annual subscription, so a lot of those users might just be thinking get back online for a year and then fuck it all off again when PS6 comes?

I was really hoping for the steam machine to shake things up, but the price point may hinder that

7 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The market already voted for years unfortunately.

Disks have been declining and at least in Sony's estimation have reached a critical level.

The only thing that would stop them is MAYBE a surge in disk purchases but that's not gonna happen.

Pretty much yup, in terms of console market too the only real choice next Gen is ps6 or switch? Since Xbox will functionally be a pc alongside the steam machine. I'll add pcs largely haven't had cd drives too (though you can get one). Realistically disks have already been dead for a good bit purely based on the market that actually buys them vs download/subscribers.

It's been shown that the Stata are skewed heavily toward digital, according to their own internal data.
Tldr PS5 has say 300 games, 200 of which are Indy titles and the rest are triple a releases.
Only the triple a are released physically because of production costs. However those released, like Astro Bot, God of War Ragnarok and etc sold 50 to 60% physical.

Not as skewed as you suggest. This is analysis done outside of Sony. Those games didn't sell anywhere near 50% physical.

If XBOX is smart they will put out a statement they will never abandon physical discs. I think that simple move will gain them 40% market share from PS to XBOX.

Tbh i think it depends on sales, when physical sales gets low enough, i dont think XBOX will keep doing that either.

Yet Xbox today announced they are testing advertisements before and after your games.
For now it's for a free game streaming service... but who knows.

Ok so it's a race to the bottom. Thats really sad they could have had a race to the top 'my product is best', but they seem to decide on 'at least my product is not as bad as theirs'.

Corporations these days know that they have us all by the balls. There will never be any kind of competition that actually benefits the consumer until we remind them all that they don't exist without us.

7 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The problem is that, broadly speaking, Microsoft’s primary purpose isn’t to make games; like all corporations it exists to make money. So the fact that they focus first and foremost on profit and only like eight or ninth (if at all) on actual gamer satisfaction is unfortunate, but not surprising =\
