This one isn't really even about Trump, unless of course he actually tries to strip Americans of their right to repair their own property. I just heard about this bullshit so if it's old news, my bad. It just made me question, like, when is it ever enough. For the psychopathic greedy, apparently the answer is never. Also, even though it's the law, there is no enforcement agency that makes dealerships have to be completely transparent with you about the state of your vehicle.
I got a Chevy Silverado years ago just so I could haul things around but I am never giving another dime to these cocksuckers. We've already bailed them out a number of times. They're deathly afraid of overseas competition because other countries make a better auto for less overall.

Ford already stops making parts for cars more than 10 years old they call them obsolete so if you buy a 5 year old used car and then try to get parts for it after 5 years good luck. And electronic parts are vin locked to the original car so buying one second hand won't always work, you need a brand new part that is now impossible to get. They claim it's a security feature but it really stops you from buying second hand. Spent 6 months trying to track down a new Body Control Module for a car.

They almost certainly do. Look at the agriculture vehicle market - even after massive, repeated lawsuits, they still basically have stripped this right from farmers. You're not legally allowed to repair your own tractors, you have to only buy their parts, through their contracted, certified mechanics, and they even tie in things like government mandated exhaust or GPS requirements so they can push their claims.
They make it so you can't even buy the parts. It's all a huge scam.

Corporations are constantly challenging the right to repair either with planed obsolescence or parts just not being available to the consumer to the lack if manuals ( electrical diagrams , disassembly procedures ) and proprietary diagnostic tool, you name it, they don't want you touching "their stuff" and the ever quoted bullshit reason of "customer safety".

Oh I get you. Some car components are not serviceable by the owner ,by design on newer cars now. Only the dealer can replace them at outrageous prices. Also gone are the days of refurbishing parts.They are made to be unserviceable and just thrown away.

He might have heard about the European "right to repair" which stepped up a notch last month or so, requiring manufacturers of some things (like cellphones) to sell spares to everyone at a reasonable price for some time after end of production, and also to make the battery user replaceable.

Note that the water protection standard includes "In addition to durability" so it's not only the water protection that has to be passed. AFAIK there isn't a single cellphone out there that would pass today.

In reality, if ever implemented, your car will be shutoff by private organisations first because some forker thinks everything should be privatised, and in parallel criminals will start obusing it.
