I told my parents to vote for Nixon because the local DNC’s sample ballot told them to vote for Vindman. NAH NAH NAH! Not this time, Jack!

Angie owns bookstore in northside Jacksonville. Holding space for organizations to meet for free.l, offers free math tutoring, has a shelf of free books, a food pantry, and a hygiene pantry. I've seen tens of people come in clearly living difficult lives and being treated with dignity and respect. At her kickoff rally there were free activities for kids, and a private security. ICE was down the street. Leader by example. Cannot support her enough.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I didn't mind Vindman, in isolation, but it was hard to ignore the feeling of a 15-minutes-of-fame dude swooping in last minute. Nixon was the better choice, both in local political experience and on issues. It's good to see that the Democratic rank and file in Florida is not easily beguiled by big money.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm sure she will do well in the general election. Nothing maga can spin there.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Republicans want to add a lot data centers in Florida. FUCK THAT.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Surprise? Only if you haven't been paying attention to anything but mainstream media.

If the Dem Socialists keep gaining momentum, I think that some MM will suddenly start covering them, even positively, but not Faux, the newly-fascist-fied CBS, and the fringe conservative media.

Joe Rogan will see the winds change, and like the leaf he is, start getting in a new batch of fringe representatives.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Go girl, get em. Turn Florida deep blue. Make America forget the Republican party exists.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

FUCK YEAH I VOTED FOR HER

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

thank you!

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

She won't win. Florida is way too fascist to allow that.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

please help. shes a terrific chance for change.

I don't see how this news is any different than what some sports player did in his last game. Or more to the point, what some sports player on the on the last place team did in his last game.

That's Communism !!! - that's all the gop has to do and they win.

Sadly, she’s not going to win the general. Rubio won over Val Demings in ‘22 by 16 points. It would take a miracle for Nixon to take the seat. Not saying it’s impossible, but if things swing that hard we’ll already have a control of the Senate with some to spare.

Still good to see her win. Another bellwether that points to decent things. Just saying don’t get your hopes up.

1 week ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

what do we have if not hope. please help instead of discourage trying

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

if things swing that hard we won't just have control of the senate, they'll have enough votes to convict Trump in the Senate...

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

IN 2020 the presidential election margin was only like 3.5%. Dems have been performing at ~12 points over baseline in special elections. I'm not saying it's certain, but I'm not certain it's a foregone conclusion that it's over, either?

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's still very much a long shot. The FL margins for both pres and sen in '24 were 13%. Not beyond the realm of possibility, but pretty close to the edge. Especially for a state well known for pulling out all the stops in its ratfucking.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Every person with at least one functioning brain cell left Florida years ago. A democrat isn't going to win there. We have a better chance in Texas.

Nixon's southern strategy, Part 2

1 week ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The south was entirely Democratic at the end of the 1960's. Nixon thought he could turn them Republican in the wake of the Civil Rights Act. By the early 1990's the south was solidly Republican.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I understand that—I’m wondering what you mean by “part 2” in the context of the Black Democratic candidate winning the primary?

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This Democrat here is also a Nixon running in the South, so it's a play on words and history to call it Nixon's Southern strategy.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh my god, can’t believe it took me this long to get it. Thank you

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The resemblance is uncanny

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If these Soc Dems can win their general elections you'll see establishment Dems start to come around on them. But it's gonna take at least one more election for them to really shift gears.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yup. And by then, it’ll be too late. Nobody will suddenly think Jeffries or Schiff are progressives, so it’ll make room for some better people.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep. Same way we saw a whole bunch of Republicans retire when MAGA took over.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s also why Democrats who go conservative to appeal to GOP voters don’t have much success. Turns out, their voters want actual pieces of shit, not imitators

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That's the tragedy. They're trying to appeal to people that they know vote. Progressives keep waiting for progressive candidates. It doesn't work that way. The left disenfranchised itself decades ago and the people in charge have tried to keep it that way ever since.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

While this is good news, she is at a disadvantaged position going into November. In the Senate primary, Republicans outvoted Democrats by over 400k. She will need to convince a large percentage of Independents (70% or higher) to swing her way in a state where they typically vote Republican in elections.

1 week ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Progressives who make a big show of not voting unless it’s one of their very specific candidates have said for years that If one such candidate is “allowed” to run, they’ll win swing voters too.

I hope they’re right

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To attract independents, they need to play up her lack of PAC funding. There's significant anti-big-money sentiment that Democrats are usually so piss poor at exploiting.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

we gotta try. she cares

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The state is also gerrymandered to hell. But I voted for her and I'm so pumped she won!

1 week ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Thank you!u

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gerrymandering doesn't have as much influence on a statewide election, but they are able to fuck with poll sites and demoralize voters into not voting

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

*doesn't have any influence, aside from possibly a demoralizing effect based on people assuming it's rigged and not voting.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its a US Senate race. Senate is statewide, not House of Reps.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good, the zionist lost.

1 week ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 3

Can we agree that even a Democrat backed by AIPAC is preferable to a Republican at this point?

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

I would, if the democrats weren't ineffectual at combating the literal rise of fascism in this country. It's time for better, and seeing candidates like Mamdani winning in the midst of this mess proves we don't need to always play the "safe" card, especially when all it does is move the "middle" further right.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

ok, but, that's saying that someone ineffective at fighting fascists but is technically not a fascist is just as bad a an actual overt fascist.. yes, they suck at fighting them, but, it's better to have 0 gains vs an an overt loss.. we need to do better at the primaries, but, it's still better to have a crappy ineffective dem (so long as they're not a wolf in sheeps clothing.. fuck you fetterman) than a fascism pushing conservative

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Incorrect. Isreal has the undying support of CAPITAL not the politicians. There's functionally no difference between an aipac dem and a republican except the sugar coating on the outside of the pill. Aipac dems are INTENTIONALLY ineffective at following through on their "promises".

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

It is absolutely insane to equate democrats and republicans. This is a republican psyop to prevent progressive dems from voting for moderate dem candidates. It worked against Kamala but its not going to work again.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

by your logic trump is just as good as kamala would have been..

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

well, in the long run, yes. trump is a brick on the gas pedal, but kamala wouldn't have been a foot on the brake. and we were already careening towards these outcomes via unregulated capitalism at 500mph. isreal would still be JUST as bad with her. we'd probably even still be in this war with iran right now (its just isreal would have started it instead of us and the establishment dems would back them up like loyal dogs).

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

way to double down on an absurd statement.. no, iran, lebanon, and even palastine would not have been as bad off.. nor would lgbtq/abortion rights been going as badly.. ICE? yeah, obviously not, there's such a fucking massive list of things that would be comically better.. yes, many of us have had the thoughts of pros/cons of accelerationism, but, the odds of that coming out better than the alternative are not in our favor, as it's just as likely to lead to total war.. and who has the guns?

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Imaging two political parties trying to hold you back and still winning

1 week ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 2

I mean, neither Democrat is going to win a statewide election in Florida. But good for her.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I voted for her!! I don't think my other candidates won though. 😔

1 week ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Take the win! This is FL we're talking about, so any progress is good

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I agree with this sentiment. You voted blue in FL.

I am trying to hold out hope for you Americans in the midterms, but honestly it's hard given how fucked thing are down there - signed, a Canadian.

Well, there was that one time in Oklahoma where bigots in an airplane started dropping sticks of dynamite on black-owned property during a riot.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude. Just quarantine us. Amputate and move on. If America ever gets it's shit together, you'll know because there will be clear signs. Otherwise, just assume we're a rotting cancerous growth, and we're bad for your continued health.

So, like serious question, can those in the mitten state come sleep on y’all’s couch if shit really hits the fan here? We’ll help with rent and stuff… it’s just… we might just need some time away, ya know?

Definitely welcome non-Maga Americans! In fact we have had record applications from Americans for citizenship recently

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Me and everyone I know are doing our best. I work with 2 community coalitions, one is against mass surveillance, the other is pushing for free education. One group has resources for homework assistance and food programs, the other is a wealth of information on mass surveillance and the specific things our mayor is doing about it. Both groups canvas the city and knock on doors, invite people to film screenings, informational gatherings, assistance programs, and voter registration assistance.

As an american, I couldn't possibly agree more. Loads of morons, sorry I mean my countrymen voted for a con man pedophile and this is the outcome.

They hate when you remind them of that too. And how only a fucking fool could fall for such bullshit.

Same - An American

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They're incapable of learning from their mistakes and not fucking up again so...

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As an american, my last hope is tied to the outcome of the midterms. If dems dont flip enough seats, then I doubt there will be any elections going forward.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It seems like similar troubles are trying to gain a foothold up north for you guys. Fight it. Fight it so hard. Even the little shit. Point at us and tell people we ignored that shit when we could have addressed it. It creeps in and makes a point to normalizes things that are NOT normal.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can hope if you want. But plan for the November elections to not be fair. Plan for the GOP to pick up seats in the House and Senate. Plan for Trump and the MAGA cult to cement their stranglehold on the US government, and plan for things to get logarithmically worse.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

even when people win vs the nazi racist its by like 50.0001% soo yeah we fucked

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m seeing a lot of articles about her winning. But the details matter. She won by over 10 points and did it with very little money. She never had enough money to run a TV commercial and still won.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Things are burning, mostly our pride, we've become that which we said we would never be. This country has become a nazi state and it's getting worse. It's sad to see such a fast fall and how quickly evil and hate spreads from within.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry, but this is a bit of history whitewashing. The evil and hate isn't growing and spreading, it's just more visible. We had people who were publicly Nazi party supporters leading up to WW2. We stole land from those who were here before us. We violently enslaved so, so many people.

No, this nation was built on violent, hateful subjugation, and what we see today is just the result of a few dozen generations being spoiled and entitled. Sooner we accept that, sooner we can start changing

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If dems take the house there's at least some hope of recovery.

If reps manage to subvert the midterms and dems don't take the house... it's all over but the fighting. And I'm not even sure there would be much of a fight.

1 week ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 2

Unless the Dems do some significant changes, there will be a great deal of fighting. Fascists are never satisfied and will always look across the fence to take what their neighbors have. It is only a matter of time before they attack Canada, Mexico, or Greenland. Then we get to rebuild things like we did with Germany post WW2. The Trump name will be illegal and used as a hate sign, same with MAGA. A lot of people are going to die first.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because you Americans only use your Second Amendment against children.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Dems will need to sprout a spine and some teeth if they take the house.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

see this is the problem, you think of the dems take the house there will be recovery. Even if democrats take the house, the senate, and the

1 week ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 12

They said *hope*

Its one of the last chances for democracy to right the course of this sinking ship. It's not a guarantee that it will, but if Dems don't take back Congress then it's as good as an absolute zero.

Many of us would like to resolve this without fighting in the streets. Don't take that as a statement that people won't fight if it comes to it but that those of us who still value human life don't want it thrown away if there is a chance of a way forward without it.

1 week ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Well I guess we should just roll over and die then, right? Give me a break. You know as much about what’s going to happen as the next person. So could we stop with the doom predictions and kicking the people who are fighting for change?

1 week ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Don't bother, they'll just attack you for being the problem and say that they obviously were giving great advice, and then insult you. I know this from experience with them.

roll back the most publicly opposed things, like ICE in streets, concentration camps, but they won't undo every single every day thing he's

1 week ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 7

Even this seems overly hopeful to me at this point. It seems like every time right wing fearmongers get the cops a bigger budget, Dems just get everyone to look at something else for a while and do nothing to reverse it.

done thats been lost under the big news stories, that still serve to create a foundation for the next fascist fuhrer, that hurts people,
