My local Sabrosita (I made that word up) has a long narrow dining room with the kitchen entrance at the end. That singing tray has to pass close to every table to get to the far end. I'm aware enough of this effect to just go ahead and order the fajitas (which are delicious) regardless of what I came in to get.
There are better tacos than fajitas. At the local Mexican places here they generally have fajitas as option, but they are generally overpriced and underspiced. But then they also charge extra for flour tortillas, that we call the gringo tax.
"When the first order of the night came into the kitchen, the cooks fired up several skillets and started prepping ingredients for the bunch of orders that always came soon after. The boom moment of the first sizzle of the night always kicked off a multisensory chain reaction that made the whole dining room want the dish"
The sizzle comes from an aerosol being sprayed onto the hot platter, not from the actual cooking of the food. It's food theater, not actual cooking skill.
They had a promo where you could buy a large 5ish gallon tin for $50 and refill it for like $1 any time for life.
My siblings and I loved going to my Aunt’s because she made solid salsa for a white lady and we just shoved chips in our mouths from that extremely well worn bucket. She may have single handedly drove the entire company out of existence.
Yes, tortilla chips. Although i’m looking back on it and it would be indescribably hilarious if we were just constantly scooping fistfuls of goopy beans in our tiny mouths from the giant bean tin.
The restaurant i used to work at just rebranded as chi-chi's. I bailed though. I felt the same way about it as I do about nostalgia-baiting live action remakes of old disney movies...
I ordered fajitas at a fancy Mexican restaurant once. It was a mistake. They came on a normal plate and weren't sizzling. Probably one of the blandest things on the menu.

I always say, as a friend, you're getting the fajitas. Because you will regret not getting the fajitas. I promise you.

On the Border, build your own burrito with fajita meat, cheese and beans with sour cream, chimi style. Modern problems call for modern solutions!!!
NoneOfYoBiseniss
LOL, I think we have all been here. :)

Now I want fajitas.

I think it’s the smell too. I think that’s why the street hot dog vendors started grilling onions, so the smell lures you in

You're way out of line here when it comes to context buddy. But I've never seen this and it is funny so I'm going to upvote it anyway.
evilgriff
Thanks. I thought she was a reporter reacting to the shooting at the Whitehouse a while ago?
DidItForScience
Is that a reporter? I thought she was an actor with how much disdain is on her face!
evilgriff
You’reright, I should have used quotes: “reporter.” They may as well be actors since they don’t actually do journalism anymore as far as I can tell.

Came to say something similar. Its literally a squirt of water on the skillet.

WTF are you on? Her name is Julie Tsirkin, she was born in NJ, her father is Russian, and she has lived all her life in the US.

She's a Washington correspondent. I've looked and found nothing on her claiming to be a "war reporter" or other people claiming her to be a Nazi.

refill it with tortilla chips I presume ? cause damn... five gallons of refried beans would be epic.

My first job ever was as a bus boy at Chi-Chi's in Davenport, IA around 1990. Always went home smelling like cigarette smoke and nachos.

thats why I always take the fajitas. Everything's good in a mexican restaurant but I never regretted fajitas
Shiznit007
They talk trash about Gringo's. Always ordering fajitas..... behind the scenes

Ask for extra tortillas as well. The restaurant I go to always serves more than the 3 default tortillas can hold.

Restaurant: “Corn of flour tortillas?”
Me: “Both, please.”
Now I have 6-8 tortillas for my shrimp fajitas.
