Bullet hell. The center of the 9th layer of bullet hell. If there's a bullet Satan to go with bullet hell, then Touhou is lodged firmly between his bullet buttcheeks.
Just random trivia - the famous exchange from the movie referenced and parodied here "Our arrows will blot out the sun" "Then we will fight in the shade" was possibly the Most historically accurate portion of the entire movie.
And even then they got the character wrong. We know who said the line (supposedly, anyway). Dienekes, an older captain who was posthumously awarded arestia for the battle. Which was a thing Greeks did which basically meant they thought he was the most brave/best warrior.
The movie gives it to a younger character named Stelios.
Hear me out... the movie was based on the LEGEND, not history. It was narrated by Dilios(sp????) and it is assumed to be a campfire story of an old soldier. I'm not sure where I heard it, but I think Miller based his graphics on a set of stone/tile tablets depicting the battle. My point is that it's basically supposed to be a fictional narrative, kind of like 1960s Sinbad movies, of 80s Clash of the Titans.
The movie was based on the graphic novel, which was based on an older movie, which was based on stories, which were probably based on stories... It's legends all the way down, baby
Yup. The movie lays this out pretty plainly, with the story being a pre-battle tale told to the soldiers before the next battle, at Plataea. It's a yarn, it's to get the troops pumped up about the fight. Of course the enemy has monsters, of course the scheming and treacherous politicians are in the enemy's pockets and conspired the death of the king, of course the enemy's king is a venal sexual deviant and comic-book villain.
I suck at them. Slow processors. But good pattern recognition. The more times I fail the higher my success next retry. Guaranteed bc I start memorizing what's gonna happen
oh no, the last one was absolutely terrible. Visually awesome, too far gone from the source material for me to like it anymore. There is only one real Trigun Anime.
The new Trigun reboot. A lot of fans of the original were pissed. Personally, I'm watching this one now and it's surprisingly good. Smooth animation that is reminiscent of Disney movies like Treasure Planet, or Atlantis.
The animation is solid in its own right but part of Vash's intrigue as a character was both his shockingly long past, how many injuries and scars he's acclimated, and how he got them. Putting them out there in the open ( his missing arm ) and the raw power of his brother ( Knives ) in the first few episodes kinda defeats that purpose. I suppose they didn't want to just beat the same drum, in a manner of speaking, but it still struck me as a bit weird.
I agree with the arm. That looks wrong. I actually like what they did with Knives, though. It was nice to see him actually be a threat. But also, the subtly is lacking.
He's definitely a threat but I don't like how hands on he was early on. I'd rather have peeks at his power with him in other locations, against annoying factions or underlings that aren't preforming to his standards. Very villain-y.
The only part of the sprite that matters is the little white dot in the center. That's your hitbox. Anything touches that, you die. The rest is irrelevant in terms of gameplay.
The little red dot at the bottom is the players “soul” in the center of the character. This is controlled with arrow keys. Any one of those many blue bullets is an instakill that subtracts one life. There are people who regularly run these games no-hit. Mere arrows from a single direction fired maybe from 100,000 bows would legitimately be a joke to a Touhou player if the movement translated.
That gif looks like they maybe have to worry about 4 or 5 slow moving projectiles at any given moment, the rest of the screen is mostly just for show. Assuming it translates to 100,000 fast moving arrows fired at the same time is bold, to say the least.
Kind of? Sure, it's screen clutter the game, but note that it's not a static pattern. You have to keep track of projectiles where at the peak, there's four different travel speeds.
In that specific moment of 5 seconds that’s considered a single attack? Yes. The other parts of the level and each individual boss have their own patterns you have to memorize while getting your character in a position that their own shots can fire back. Not impossible by any means but focusing on nothing but the patterns will mean a lesser score given you probably didn’t manage to do damage quickly.

You should try R-Type 3. The bullets move twice as fast as you and your ship steers like a pig.

Touhou's a bullet hell, dodge everything and stay alive, 1hp, basically the only part of you that matters is the red dot.
