Scientists at CERN just proved quantum entanglement over long distances functions beyond light speed.
Raikupath
Maybe it's because of the mods that constantly delete comments with the studies proving that veganism is the way to go. I guess you wouldn't want to be on a platform against science if you're into science yourself.
jammer909
I'm glad I'm not the only one what was wondering what happened. I noticed there was a serious lack of science posts, and I didn't know why. I want my "this week in science".
Timiny
I used to save the post and read them when I had time to catch up. Still have some I need to go through.
IGotMyDreamJobProgrammingGames
Might have just gotten bored honestly

@shmong
SecondSince
He probably stopped because this platform is bleeding out with no signs of stopping.

I miss @onlyporridge ...
Cranbananarama
Science got overfarmed and they ran out of science to science.
DrSchlepenstein
He was "blinded by science" and can no longer see to make the posts.
q34tw4
Imgur probably burned them out. Its so depressing on here these days
MightyIink
It got too depressing when it became all about climate change and plastic in the ocean.
ScienceIsNotALiberalConspiracy
It's not all about climate change and plastics. Sometimes it covers the clearcutting of the Amazon, the last Rhino/Elephant/Big Cat of a certain species being poached, or chemical spills.
dal42
Looks like IFLS copied his format.. Maybe they hired him. I'd like to think so anyway :)
Sheldonian
Hi, at the beginning of the year I started making weekly science summaries, I just posted the most recent one /gallery/C9ievYY

His DEI statement didn't pass the thought police committee
Mallococcis
I miss those posts :(
10yearslurking
Science Alert is still out there
kastewbeef
Yup, same. Although I went to the site & signed up for the weekly email w/links so I don’t miss new content if I missed the imager post.
I still receive them a/o 25 June.
TheFastpaws
Ya, I always wonder when it comes to people like this what happened. Probably just regular life but would be nice to know.
TheNoggle
Turns out we ran out of science
overcookedchickennugget
Bad times friend ahead. Maybe no computer. Maybe no home. I will go away but we are two of soul. I will return.

Thanks for noticing. These posts were always great to see midst the typical nonsense. I mean we are here for the nonsense but also the science. Hope science guy is alright. By the way did you check other platforms to see if he just gave up on imgur?
anon8219
Agreed, I used to love these. Made me sound smart.
FvckPoliticalPosts
Just came back from a long break, wrote a dm to science guy but no further research
Sheldonian
Glad there are always people interested in science, that's why I started to do weekly science news at the beginning of the year (I'll be uploading today). /gallery/voxRWyG

Followed!
Sheldonian
Thank you!
jacblake
The pressure is on!
GoodChange
Strange, I thought i saw one of their posts this spring and I remember thinking that it had been a while. Maybe I saw someone else posting science news.
Salpinus
Could perhaps be one of the this time last year posts?
Sheldonian
Probably me :) I'm posting weekly science summaries (this week I'll be uploading today) /gallery/voxRWyG
GoodChange
Thank you!
GoodChange
Oh I was already following you as well so that seems likely.
studog2010
Thank you for your service.

Here's the new one /gallery/C9ievYY

Maybe there’s been no science in the last year? Covid has been cured, right?
ScienceIsNotALiberalConspiracy
Wrong on both counts.

Finally, we 100%'d science.
Tenookey
Can't wait for the speedruns. Any% science is gonna be insane
JadeNB1729
The real cure was the refusal to engage in basic human decency to the immunocompromised that we found along the way.
Snooj
I think we discovered all the science out there.

Tenookey
Wow. I thought you were just born with all your teeth and that's your lot!!
ckmnstr
Nah, we're leaving some for the future generations. Can't have all the science to ourselves.
mieper3
Nah, there's been a vote in congress, they decided science does more harm than good so now it's outlawed (along with being too smart, and also being a smartass)
munkis
Can we still play 4d chess to own the libs? Or is that too smart? /s

And here I am, laying around with Rona, LIKE AN IDIOT.
Toqom
I still wear masks. A trump judge ruled mask mandates were not constitutional and all the idiots stopped wearing them. Mask for life now
NZSheeps
Have you tried not being sick?
Mikeiller
You should make sure your science is updated.

stronomer
It was clickbait-ish, massively compressed, headliner "news" that almost never lived up to the hype when looking at the actual papers. At least in my field. So not having these anymore is no big loss in my eyes.
etcnotect
Sciencealert is a terrible website for sure. It's the tabloid of science news.
Affray
I think people might be concerned more about the human behind the posts as opposed to the actual posts themselves.
stronomer
That I could understand. But just because someone quits a hobby doesn't mean they're unwell. Looking at imgur, it might be the opposite ;-)
Affray
Maybe we've all been traumatised by online friends/known entities disappearing out of nowhere. The reason might not matter as much as the absence.
stronomer
True, true...
JimmyWalkerTexasRanger
Did a quick search of the science tag to see if maybe they changed their profile. No dice. I did find another user that seems to have picked up the slack in the interim. Their username is @Sheldonian. Slightly different format but provide the same links to articles. Hope that helps your science cravings.
Unicorngamingbutts365
HavelTh3Rock
Well that's your problem, we're not looking for dice, we're looking for science guy.
Sheldonian
Yup, this week I'll be uploading today because, I had too much to do yesterday. But the other guy just posted from one site, I guess it was more of a social network strategy for the sciencealert. I try to post from different reliable sources that link to the actual research paper where they got the information from.

I would hazard a guess that your diligence is much appreciated by the community. Thank you.
Sheldonian
That's nice to hear, thank you!
NinjaPoopy
I've followed your work here for a while now, Thank you! You are very much appreciated!
Cryolith
Followed, thank you.
Sheldonian
Thank you!
rusrsdude
Yeah, thank you. I check out those sites often and find myself just browsing sometimes lol.
MajorasTerribleFate
Thank you for picking up the torch. Definitely following. I caught one of yours in the wild a little bit ago and noted the different format but not the different user, so I'm glad I came across this.
Sheldonian
Much appreciated :) here's the newest one /gallery/C9ievYY
thetonestarr
Could I make 2 suggestions/requests?
1st, could you increase the font size for your summaries? The text is quite small & even though I have a large phone & very good eyesight, it's uncomfortable to read. For those with worse eyes, I can only imagine the strain trying to read the text.
2nd, could you split it into 5 or 6 different images, instead of one? This allows you to make the images larger without risking compression distortion from Imgur & it allows commenters to cite specific topics>
thetonestarr
Either way, I appreciate the work you're doing here. Thanks for keeping us updated on this stuff!
vegivamp
I second these, @Sheldonian . In fact the science guy used to have separate images, and it was a whole lot more convenient.
Sheldonian
Yeah, I hear you, I'm already working on it. To not copy-paste the reply, here's my explanation to the comment above /gallery/ZBg3Xrm/comment/2402263177
Sheldonian
HI, yeah the image when you open the post is too compressed but if you open the image by tapping or clicking, it will show the HQ image which is way more readable.
But I do hear you I've been wanting to make an image per article because that's also what I need to do to post it in other social networks which I intend to do and then the image can be clearer to read by default. The problem with that is that it requires more work also because I would need to make a separate shorter summary 1/
Sheldonian
for the main image and it already takes all the time I have for this, but I'm working already in implementing that workflow, hopefully this week I can finalize it or be closer to that. BTW I just posted the new weekly summary. /gallery/top-science-news-of-week-jun-17-23-2024-C9ievYY 2/2
thetonestarr
More what I meant about compression is that you can make the post longer and it'll no longer suffer compression. But yes, you're right that addresses it.
The bigger issue is the font size. On my phone screen, it appears about equivalent to 8pt font (while Imgur text is 10pt). It's very small.
thetonestarr
As for it being more work, yes, you're right, but it's only a very small amount more if you do it right. Do your work the way you already have, but then once complete, just select, copy, and paste each portion to a new image. Altogether it's about two minutes of work. Yes, still more workflow, but hopefully marginal?
Either way, thanks for hearing me out!
