Words mean nothing without follow through. The whole bro post from the NJ gov is laughable. She might as well not have posted anything. Do what you're gonna do and let that be the lesson. Empty threats only cause them to escalate. It's like an abuser. You teach people how to treat you.
That ICE bitch is scared, see how fast he's talking and instinctively reacting to the "Fuck ICE" person in the background by raising his fist. That's what we do when we say fuck ICE and show support. He has seen our fists raised in salute, then he just panic raised his fist because he's seen us do it. Total fear response because if you mimic someone you're basically trying to say "don't hurt me I'm on your side"

This makes no sense. Either you're police, AKA local law enforcement or you're a federal agent.
If you're a fed, you need to be wearing whatever alphabet agency your with. Instead these guys are impersonating police officers which is a criminal offense.
Also, no warrant and no proper ID is the magic combination that gets you a personal introduction to high velocity atomic number 82.
A message for ICE: I can't wait for the day that all of you stupid, worthless, shriveled little nut-sacks get Nuremberg'd. That's all any of us are waiting for, is for the whole pack of you to be sat in a plastic booth like the subhuman freak show that you are.
They continue to call themselves police, but they are not in fact any kind of police. They are conflating Law Enforcement with a Police Force. Federal Agents, generally, are law enforcement agents, but they have very specific jurisdictions they work under. Like how the CIA is not allowed to operate in the US borders. How ATF deals with Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, but not immigration. Things like this are SUPPOSED to be the case. But they are just ignoring the word "jurisdiction" now.
All it took was a little bit of promised money to get these supposedly "Constitution loving, personal rights, no masks, screw the feds" right wingers to flip the exact opposite side of that.
Plus the current administration has it set that they only get 10K of the promised 50k a year and if they quit anytime before the 5 years is up they have to pay it back. Most of them took the job because they had bills to pay anyway. So now that money is already gone. A financial choke hold. Still though, they're selling their souls to people who won't care for them.
But if they leave ICE before the five year mark, they have to repay any money received at the pre-tax rate. You know how Trump fucks over contractors. Watching them freak out when they lose that money will be worth it, and then they'll out themselves going public to cry about being fucked over.
One thing you absolutely MUST understand to talk politics in America with any sort of actual correctness is the concept of kayfabe - it's a wrestling term originally but it applies PERFECTLY to Republican politics.
They know what they want is not socially acceptable to say out loud so they pretend to support other things that put them into proximity to what they want, and when what they want then HAPPENS, they can claim "oopsies! That's not what that's supposed to do at all!"
Trump sure cares a lot about law and order, which is why he's sending all these ICE guys to these lawless cities! It's so weird that all they ever seem to do is be confrontational and go about doing the things they want to do in the most destructive and over-the-top way. Surely he can see that they're just making things worse and will recall them soon! Why, if things keep up the way they are, one of them is bound to get hurt, and then the administration will be in a pickle!
Man, those Republicans are so fiscally conservative! They demand that every bill passed by a Democrat keeps track of every single dollar and where it came from and how we're going to pay for all of these ponies the voters want. Weirdly enough, when they're in charge, they get really forgetful and suddenly we have $3T of new debt. Do they just forget, or was the 'fiscal conservative' belief just a trojan horse for "we want to obstruct everything you do so we can blame you when nothing gets done"?
I mean it's even worse than "blatantly obvious", it's "they said they were doing this." It's the "two santa clauses" idea. Republicans were getting killed by Democrats because voters saw Democrats as the party that gave them things - welfare, social security, medicare, etc. Republicans decided that the way to beat this was to a) spend like a drunk when in office to be able to give things away to voters and b) hammer on fiscal responsibility to make Democrats kill their own Santa programs.
So Republicans look good, because their spending gooses the economy and they can say "See? When we're in charge, the good times roll and everyone makes money!" And then when they're out of power, they hammer fiscal responsibility so that they can kill (but not BE THE KILLERS - they make the Democrats kill it themselves so they can hang the cuts around their neck) popular social programs in the name of "balancing the budget" (that the Republicans intentionally fucked up.)
Anti-abortionists know damned well that abortions are often a necessary procedure to save the life of a mother. And they don't give two shits about the lives of the kids, or else they'd spend a little time actually helping new mothers. What they love, though, is being able to tell someone else that they have no right to decide what happens to their own bodies, but you can't say that out loud.
Gun humpers NEVER were going to "fight a tyrannical government." They know that when they say it, too. They want to have an excuse to use their guns to kill people, preferably in a way that gives them legal cover to claim they were forced to, but wouldn't you know it, they just KEEP finding themselves in situations where they were FORCED to "defend themselves!" Aw, shucks.
But someone who says that part out loud is rightly deemed a sociopath, so "in case of tyranny" it is!
In each of these examples, the Republicans know that what they are saying is not what they actually mean, but they pretend to believe in the fake reality that they've created to justify their actions - the kayfabe reality. They all know they don't actually mean what they say in the way that they say it, and the people watching it on their side (sometimes) know that... Which is why trying to 'gotcha' them on the things they say/do never does anything - they know from the start that they're lying.
(As a quick aside, one of the things that has created the modern hyper-reactionary culture-war Republican party is the result of all of that kayfabe. In the beginning, most or all of them knew they were putting on an act. However, their propaganda has been so successful that later generations of Republicans have grown up partly or fully ACTUALLY BELIEVING in the fake reality version. Those True Believers took over the party about a decade ago (you may remember them as The Tea Party.))
(They don't make up the entirety of the party, but they do lead it around by the nose due to their intense digging in when the party gets too far from the things they think the party stands for. They are becoming a larger part of the party as more and more "Conservative-but-not-fully-crazy" people in the party slink off, disgusted with what the party has become (and not willing to admit that they helped lead it there.))
no, but they think they are. They are technically part of the border patrol/customs etc so they are sort of federal law enforcement, but they are not soldiers or cops. They quite literally do not have any authority over regular citizens...though they think they do.
It's very controversial but not (yet) illegal for federal agents. DEA does this too. They're technically law enforcement agencies, but so is the Fish & Wildlife Service. Imagine them wearing POLICE vests, barging into government buildings, pulling people out of cars etc. in the hope of finding someone who keeps a squirrel as a pet or went fishing without a license 10 yrs ago. Nevermind murdering ppl in the streets. ICE has an equally narrow mandate as the FWS. Their job is not to police citizens

No. The US law enforcement system is deliberately byzantine, which is meant as a check against tyranny (and look how well that's working) and typically we use the word "police" to refer specifically to local, municipal law enforcement, the "polis" part, though we also have county and state police. Federal law enforcement are not police; they are supposed to be very restricted action and jurisdiction. They only have jurisdiction over one specific type of law or in highly specific places.
What we are seeing is yet another step on the road to despotism. The Gestapo existed before the NSDAP took power, but it was simply a branch of law enforcement. Once in power, the fascists began a campaign to "hybridize" the police in Germany, lumping more and more enforcement into few agencies and suborning local law enforcement to support federal efforts. Himmler embarked on a campaign to assume direct control over as many agencies as possible and to install SS loyalists everywhere else.
Real federal agents have their own identifying markings. Some do have the word "police" written on them but they also have the agency's name. FBI agents don't pretend to be police, their gear says "FBI" on it. ATF agents do have gear that says "police" on it, but it also says "ATF" on it. That patch there, just "Police - Federal Agent" and nothing else, is some Temu bullshit.
Someone decides to dress like them and starts robbing houses, or killing people they have a feud with and hiding their bodies... I mean, with no badges, no I'd, no warrants ... Fucking morons
They already did. Those two Democrats and their dog were murdered in their home by someone "pretending" to be one of Trumps gestapo or likely actually WAS one.
They don't need a badge, ID, warrant, probable cause, or even a good excuse. They're shooting people in the street with impunity, violating court orders with impunity, and nobody is stopping them, so yeah, they absolutely can do it.
In theory yes but if you survive this, the cops will still come for you and the judges will simply deny your defense strategy so you sit in prison until you plead guilty. (basically)
I say many. The problem is at a functional agency if a missing person is last seen by ice. Could be easily vetted by ice. Yet ice have no clue who or how many they got in custody or where or there status.
The best we can do is peacefully protest. This is probably how we would act if Germany ended up invading the US during WWII. Peacefully protesting while the politicians get paid to do nothing but let it happen.
They apparently have jurisdiction up to something like 100 miles from the border. And unfortunately now they consider every international airport to be part of the border.
I imagine most actual people have a hard time wrestling with the concept of taking a life. We're not quite at the point where the rage erodes the base empathy. I don't know what else it will take, but clearly we're still outnumbered by the approving and complacent masses. Apathy is a hell of a beast to slay.
It has happened - it gets buried because they haven't been able to use it to whip up fervor yet. The most recent is likely that one ICE officer with his finger bitten off.

ICE has exactly one law to enforce: immigration. What they are doing here is not this.
They're now an illegal paramilitary.

(5) to make arrests-
(A) for any offense against the United States, if the offense is committed in the officer's or employee's presence, or (B) for any felony cognizable under the laws of the United States, if the officer or employee has reasonable grounds to believe that the person to be arrested has committed or is committing such a felony.
They are allowed to enforce Federal law.
NKato
Not their primary mission. If they make it their primary mission, they stop being Immigration Enforcement and shouldn't be called ICE.
LtRooney
LtRooney
What we are seeing is yet another step on the road to despotism. The Gestapo existed before the NSDAP took power, but it was simply a branch of law enforcement. Once in power, the fascists began a campaign to "hybridize" the police in Germany, lumping more and more enforcement into few agencies and suborning local law enforcement to support federal efforts. Himmler embarked on a campaign to assume direct control over as many agencies as possible and to install SS loyalists everywhere else.
LtRooney
Real federal agents have their own identifying markings. Some do have the word "police" written on them but they also have the agency's name. FBI agents don't pretend to be police, their gear says "FBI" on it. ATF agents do have gear that says "police" on it, but it also says "ATF" on it. That patch there, just "Police - Federal Agent" and nothing else, is some Temu bullshit.

If you don't need a badge, id, or a warrant, then I don't need proof to defend myself.
jankyupeblik
If you're wearing a mask, I don't need proof.
TheShoggothOfMosquitoCreek
If they go door to door in Cleveland things will get interesting.
MikeRInternetTraveler
They’ll be very careful to not go to certain doors. They won’t go after anyone they think might actually pose a danger.

They dress for it, so mask or fly
NotTheMamaNotTheMama
Someone decides to dress like them and starts robbing houses, or killing people they have a feud with and hiding their bodies... I mean, with no badges, no I'd, no warrants ... Fucking morons
UnholyFurryTentacleMonster
They already did. Those two Democrats and their dog were murdered in their home by someone "pretending" to be one of Trumps gestapo or likely actually WAS one.
ATLandNerdy
They don't need a badge, ID, warrant, probable cause, or even a good excuse. They're shooting people in the street with impunity, violating court orders with impunity, and nobody is stopping them, so yeah, they absolutely can do it.
Stinkybuttpants
No warrant? “Say hello to my little friend”
Closetnuzzlepuzzla
They are basically vigilante thugs then and should be treated as such
Maraxus
In theory yes but if you survive this, the cops will still come for you and the judges will simply deny your defense strategy so you sit in prison until you plead guilty. (basically)
Maraxus
But I do support the sentiment.
LokilairTTV
Vs ice just killing you/sending to a concentration camp. Nah man, im going to Valhalla
pareidoliaperson
So you're saying he has no badge with him, no id, no one will recognise him if he was lying on the streets?

Grimmrog
i wonder how many traffickign victims currently exist just being kidnapped by people pretending to be ice as well.
AndrewCowbell
FBI said its a problem already and to defend yourself by any means necessary.
ZackWester
I say many. The problem is at a functional agency if a missing person is last seen by ice. Could be easily vetted by ice. Yet ice have no clue who or how many they got in custody or where or there status.
OmenJones
When they act like home invaders, treat them like home invaders.
rfleming1080
The best we can do is peacefully protest. This is probably how we would act if Germany ended up invading the US during WWII. Peacefully protesting while the politicians get paid to do nothing but let it happen.
hairytrigga
No, the best you can do is buckshot to the gut and put them down permanently.
ptenopus
They're not even real fucking cops, they're just proud boy assholes "deputized" by trump to be his fascist goon squad.
Skywatcher16
and deputized as CUSTOMS agents. they are supposed to be annoying you at the airport or border asking if you bought fruit or cigs that you
omnifella
They apparently have jurisdiction up to something like 100 miles from the border. And unfortunately now they consider every international airport to be part of the border.
Skywatcher16
need to declare before comming back in the country from vacation.
undeadlemur
Honestly wondering why it's taken so long before it happens
crabpuss
I imagine most actual people have a hard time wrestling with the concept of taking a life. We're not quite at the point where the rage erodes the base empathy. I don't know what else it will take, but clearly we're still outnumbered by the approving and complacent masses. Apathy is a hell of a beast to slay.
WireWynaut
It has happened - it gets buried because they haven't been able to use it to whip up fervor yet. The most recent is likely that one ICE officer with his finger bitten off.
spittytrinkles
When you are faced with an ICEberg, start with the tip.

(Really though, what that tells me is that that finger was somewhere it shouldn't have been)
