As I mentioned in another comment, this was after the 3rd direct hit to Moore, OK from a massive tornado in the span of 14 years (1999-2013). It's why my friends and I (live in OK) have always "joked" that "God hates Moore, OK" and that you couldn't pay me to move into that town. (Mostly because of horrendous traffic, but the higher than average F5 tornado hits also doesn't help)
Most would rather people snap out of this delusion that a fictional fart in the sky is kind enough to save some people's lives during natural disasters, but cruel enough to devastate their entire lives in the process.

These acts of God are getting more common. I'm sorry but feeling good and "making you smile" from these kinds of stories is what the orphan crushing machine does. There's no context given here, just an elderly pulling out her dear pup from a wreckage.
Further context (as an Okie) the 2013 tornado was the 3rd major direct hit to Moore (southside suburb of Oklahoma City) since 1999. While the '99 storm was worse as far as total number dead, the '13 storm hit multiple packed neighborhoods, including several schools (a number of students died) and caused roughly twice as much damage (dollar wise). You can see a bit in the background of the video, this woman lived in a neighborhood that was completely erased. She and her dog were very lucky.
Better an upvote than to decide to use the tragedy to build a non-starter campaign issue around for a run at Governor. A Dem ran on a plan of over a billion to build a tornado shelter in every school in the state, even though we were already a budget shortfall, the schools/teachers could use the money more, and in the case of one of schools that got hit, there were kids in a shelter when the school got hit and were protected... until a pipe burst and flooded the shelter.
Not to mention the weather folks around here have gotten so good at severe storm forecasting (the National Weather Center is HQ'd in Norman, just south of Moore) that they can tell us specific time of day, on which day, a week ahead of time. It was widely known that Moore was going to be under the gun again that afternoon but the school district didn't let schools out early or etc. So there was definitely more that could have been done, policy wise, in regards to making sure people were safe.
This was on live TV. If the dog was in immediate danger or in need of a third person's help then I'd agree but this is clearly not the case and the dude is doing his job.
This. I’m uniquely qualified to judge here. I have a journalism degree AND I’ve been working animal rescue for over a decade. I would’ve put the camera down. Maybe that’s why I didn’t stay in journalism for long.
Yeah, you start to understand the difference in purpose with things. Journalists are deterred from interfering because it usually ruins the footage, and their job is to Get Footage. Journalism is for those whose wallets are greedier than their hearts.
I feel like putting the camera down, still recording the person genuinely helping not for footage, is better footage than just recording. I dunno if I explained that well, me no word good.
