My Job is Awesome.
I run a barbershop in my city and just about all of my clients know that I love games and geekery. One of those clients is a 9 year old boy who has started coming to my shop because I'm the only barber who will talk video games with him. As a tip for his most recent haircut, (during which he told me that "For Honor" is great but the Berserker is *obviously* the best) he gave me Nuka Cola caps that he made from soda bottles and stickers he printed, which he then roughed up and rusted to make them look badass. He offered me more but I told him he'd need some for next time. My job is the shit.
PiGiSpi
I'd literally learn how to cut hair if I could work where you do
Hellstorm99
Not the job, the person doing it. You being friendly and social with people has done this. Way to go!
swatz
was talking to someone and skimming, saw bartender in my mind, and was imaging a kid climbing on a barstool asking for a whiskey with caps!
Featherskill
WHERE CAN I BUY IMPROVE FOR MEN?
boosterterrik
Pretty much any barber supply. It's pretty ubiquitous despite being horrendously outdated
hedgewizard
Badass kid. Badass barber. Well done!
kelgamer13000
spaceisneat
Definitely maintain that friendship. He's likely to share his bunker with you when we face a Left 4 Dead situation.
Peytonthedestroyer
Shut up and take my bottlecaps!
ElaineTheNPC
CaptainSmartAzz
Offer him prewar money for 3-5 bottlecaps each
chinesefingerhut
This
HughLaurie
Does anyone actually refer to them as "bottlecaps" in the game? I'm seriously trying to remember.
boosterterrik
They just call them Caps
HughLaurie
That's all I remember them ever saying, as well.
ARussianAndHisBike
Jowrdan
Hahahahah
Artoris
Not a gamer, only loosely following what's going on here. But, I believe you, your job, this kid, and your tip are all awesome!
PlushtoysEveryWhere
Legit transaction right there. Just don't let him raid your armor in the back of the shop.
IcyLucario
Yeah and watch out for him picking up and moving half the room into the bathroom.
Mack1986
He just put a bucket on his head
AuntSharron
If he starts crouching, keep an eye on your loots.
SendingThoughtsAndPrayers
It's not illegal to just look.
shimmernshine
9 YO playing For Honor... I didn't see such visceral decapitations until I was 13... worried.
Rogahar
You can turn both blood and realistic flesh off in the options. Maybe the kids parents did so. Don't presume the worst.
KarmicBee
Awesome story mate
KimJongUninstall
Charge him in caps. Go see how much it is for a haircut in Diamond City, and charge that kid that much for a cut. See if he's really into it
boosterterrik
I love this idea. He will be so stoked
mikeatike
Shave and a haircut, 3 caps.
honestlynotarealperson
Must be a high charisma build

aroosternamed0melette
Make sure you have that kid follow you. He'd be an asset on any mission.
KeeleonOhms
OP is definitely the NPC.
fissnoc
Whereabouts do you run your barber shop, @OP?
boosterterrik
Ithaca, New York!
MrSmilingDeath
At the end I thought you said "My job is shit." I was about to say shut your whore mouth. Apologies.
EarthAnimalArmy
centuries from now, these will totted as authenticate and a massive hunt for the ruins of the manufacturing plant will commence
Discordious
Is your name Brett by any chance OP?
boosterterrik
Nope!
MMichael22086
Just badass he made those!
Unquote
this has got to be some hipster as fuck barbershop.
StroneDog
My barber is a huge Star Wars nerd, makes the conversation interesting. Really good barber too.
boosterterrik
Can't deny. My clients ask me about Star Wars, game design, and history a lot. Conversation is always fun though!
HaYouForgotTheSubjunctive
Customers. Lawyers and such have clients, doctors have patients, everyone else has customers.
SacrificesForCthulhu
cli·ent/ˈklīənt/ noun "A person or organization using the services of a lawyer or other professional person or company."
SacrificesForCthulhu
@OP is a professional person, and therefore has clients.
FuckTheUSCjrShamecocks
Do me a favor and look up the definition of client. Hopefully even you are competent enough to see that it's synonymous with customer.
FuckTheUSCjrShamecocks
You were so eager to be a condescending asshole that you just made some bullshit up & shit it out like you knew what you were talking about.
boosterterrik
The separation of the two terms is largely used to imprecisely dedicate a class system to work titles, and therefore separate 'undesirables'
HaYouForgotTheSubjunctive
Fair enough then. I always thought that was how it was. Sorry for being rude.
boosterterrik
No worries. Thanks for being receptive!
boosterterrik
It's up to personal preference. But, considering a client is somebody who purchases the services of a professional, client is entirely apt.
UnskippableAd
Damn 9 year olds playing M rates games with explicit gore, sex, and language
Sickemm
I was allowed to, I also have decent parents who knew how to educate and I had at least some common sense to not go murdering ppl
Nomulus
Oh shut up, there were kids in your generation watching movies and reading magazines that were made for people twice your age.
NinpoLore
Maybe, but videogames provide agency & the illusion of choice, which empowers young minds as static never could.
KeeleonOhms
You dont think theres a difference in graphic interactivity?
Nomulus
2/2 were all violent videogames accused of poisoning young minds, and now those children are all normal functioning adults. So no there isnt
KeeleonOhms
Its only anecdotal but the people i know who played GTA3 as a 5 year old are assholes. Im not talkingvabout them turning into murderers here
Nomulus
1/2 This isn't the first generation to be raised on violent videogames. Games like Doom, Wolfenstein, Mortal Kombat, and later on, GTA
KeeleonOhms
Im not talking about the violence. Im talking about the realistic graphics. Its the difference between a neheading in a comic book vs
KeeleonOhms
Watching an ISIS execution video.
Nomulus
I feel like there's more realistic violence in movies than there is in videogames.
evilklownz
He made those. That kid is badass.
Elroydb
He's a counterfeit and should be arrested. If everyone did this I ain't payin no 5000 caps for a haircut in Diamond City
Canchocolatejustletmefinish
He's a counterfeit going down in history as nothing but a copy cat.
KrisPhoenix
We now know who used the one bottecap pressmachine infallout new vegas.
Jmtc3Man
Counterfeiting currency is a crime, don't enable him.
AkLonewolf
Thats something a Synth would say.
molestmymonkey
I hope he gives the barber lots of them and the barber sends them in to get the kid a free copy (maybe?) of the next Fallout game.
boosterterrik
Talked to his mom about it, trying to see if he really was allowed to play these games. He is in fact allowed, so I plan on rewarding him
KeeleonOhms
For some reason Fallout seems a lot less concerning than For Honor. At least theres an intelectual aspect.
boosterterrik
I was talking to his mom during his last haircut, and basically, the (potential) complexity and creativity of mechanics is what makes it ok
KeeleonOhms
I havent played it so have little context, but it just looks like dark souls + counterstrike. I think video games are a lot better for kids
OverpricedCrayon
I don't know about that. Talented, yes but I'm not so sure about a badass
nasreal
1 @OP next time that kid is in your shop you should point him the direction of the Tested youtube page, which is @mistersavage 's maker ...
nasreal
2 channel. If he's that young and already doing this kind of thing, he could totally do it for a living. Those bottle caps look pretty...
nasreal
3 darn good for an 8 or 9 year old.
WowieThatsNice
Yea but don't get turned off by Norm's annoying ass.
nasreal
Lol, that's not very nice, Will.

That kid is using cheats then!

Well it depends on the degree of burnt

Also, what's in that jar that improves men? Is it affordable? Will I need all of it?
iamsosickofanotherusername
And you are someone that he will remember for the rest of his life.
ChuckTingleBattlesTheAssGoblinsofAuschwitz
I'd remember evil clowns as well
apageofthedarkhold
I remember my barber... My mom. She was a licensed hair dresser (her words) but she used to do this "slither" cut... Hurt every time.
TheHaloFollower
My mom almost completely sliced off my earlobe
boosterterrik
Fuuuck. Slithering hurts so bad if shears aren't sharp. Slithering is just sliding open shears down your hair

Doge12312
A 9 year old playing for honor and Fallout?
SpecialProjectY
They are not so hard games, even a 5yo with basic speaking skills can successfully finish both games.
twinkledink
[1/2] I've been playing Grand Theft Auto since I was like 8 or 9. And my dad let me watch Saw when I was only a year or two older than that.
twinkledink
[2/2] It scared me at the time but I turned out okay. There was no permanent damage done.
ultimatew
was 14,watched evil dead 2, the kid next door was a couple of years older and bought me the tickets to movies, parents was ok with it
ultimatew
if I could get in, then go.. they wouldn't go and buy or watch it with me, how I saw Rambo 3, before everyone else in class :P
vudak
I watched predator when i was like 10 tbh
TekPriest1975
Kujo at 10, had an issue with St. Bernards for a while after that ....
TheZulthar
Problem?
tumppu
I requested the original Wasteland as a birthday present when I was 7.
ItzGent
i watched fast and furious moveis w my dad when i was 6 and that has a shit ton of sexy shit
FlightyBr0ad
I started playing GTA when I was 8, he's fine.
KeeleonOhms
Its not even so much about "innapropriate content" but about escalation. If youre watching heads explode when youre 5, what is "interesting"
KeeleonOhms
When youre 15? If you buy your 2 year old an ipad, you are creating an addict and everything else will be a letdown.
iAdoreAnimals
(3) Cod, and a ton of other gory games that depict terrible acts of violence. So, I guess it's just individual perception.
iAdoreAnimals
I mean, if the parents teach the differences between reality and virtuality, then the kid should be fine. But, at the same time, perception
GreetingsPrograms
I was playing Crash Bandicoot and Halo 2 when I was nine
iAdoreAnimals
(2) can be different for everyone. I grew up playing the worst of gore filled games, and seemed to have grew up fine. Played MK, GOW (both)
LynxMcCoy
By 9? I played Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake ans stuff like that. Whats the big deal? Overprotecting children sucks.
swatz
Yeah, most of the kids I know (volunteer work) play stuff like Fallout, Skyrim, PvZ:GW and every FPS stuff. Majority of parents avoid like<
swatz
>vice city and witcher, but not much else seems to be off limits.
IcyLucario
..Is there..A problem with that?
maliciousGman
I watched Saving Private Ryan for the first time when I was 9. I'm now a devout history major.
boosterterrik
Also, the little guy has to buy all his own games and gear, so he has worked very hard to get his gaming in.
ShepherdsPieismyfavorite
Love this! I did the same with my boys and it taught them to respect the value of money and how to treat your gear with care.
zowan
Better than what I played at 9. Doom, Mortal Kombat, Leisure Suit Larry..
PlayerBhatin
I used to be protective of kid gamers, then I discovered at least 200 of them have had sexual relations with my mom.
dethmetalgear
Where have u been? Have u never been 360° no scoped by a kid in COD who then proceeded 2 call me a fag n then I stopped playing 2 cry alone
coloredgreyscale
Time to throw the console out and build a gaming pc
KvatchGuard
Lolololol so fucking true
Artoris
Sounds like the kid knew what he was talking about. Not that there is anything wrong with that...
dethmetalgear
There wasn't enough characters to add that they also screwed my mom
macca3568
I don't think it's a huge issue. They're gonna be playing violent games anyway, be glad they're good ones and not some COD trash
Hybris51129
When you teach your kid the difference between a video game and reality then its ok to let them play a wider array of games.
my90srapnameispoodrizzle
It really isn't. Exposure to gore is desensitizing.
mememurderer
I wrote a paper in college about the difference between SIM and reality. Long story short- not much difference
mememurderer
Zimmerman and S.L.A.Marshall were some main pts.
ElbowDeepInAHeadlessHorseman
Yeah, look how horrible he turned out, handcrafting his own gaming-related nick-nacks and stuff :p
KeeleonOhms
I think Fallout at 9 is right at a grey area. Isnt For Honor a pretty violent online game? Id be more concerned with the online aspect.
GodEmperor0fMankind
I was playing Halo and games like Medal of Honor and Modern Warfare at around that age. I wish I'd been playing games like Fallout instead
boosterterrik
the kid's parents are coders who love video games, and let their kids play what they want, to determine their own boundaries with guidance.
ThatsMySecretCapImAlwaysHorny
My kids used to love driving tanks around in battlefield. Grandma tried to stick her nose in about it being violent. They were only driving
noxmeter
I think that kid will be fine. I mean look at what he can do
Mattwer3
Wish I woulda been able to explore who I am and what I liked when I was young.
noxmeter
It's never too late
MyHouseOnMars
What a great stance for them to take!
PoofybirdDesign
And that's the difference. Kid whose parents understand the game and their kid's limits, vs oblivious parents just letting their kid have
PoofybirdDesign
whatever to shut them up. Prolly why he's making props and crafts instead of being a menace on Xbox Live.
TransmissionVector
Started playing Doom, Wolfenstein, Command & Conquer etc when I was about 4 and I've only murdered like ten guys.
HoochIsCrazzy
slacker
ImJustASalad
Shit, same here except I brainwashed a couple kids to do it for me.
shimmernshine
My bff bro lets his kid swear, play with dangerous things, etc. He also makes him read stuff and talk about it, and uses burpees as time-out
shimmernshine
He's 8 years old and is penning a really good script about neo taking the blue pill and becoming an agent.

Hey, I can't judge, my GF is 30 and still writes fanfics
Ransbear

...doesn't everyone?
Mountaineer30680
He shoots, he scores!
sheapet
Depends on if he plays xbox or playstation
IridescentLotus
I'm curious if that kind of time out makes them view exercise as a punishment so once they move out they don't orif it gives them dedication
tomyironmane
Most interesting lesson taught at Parris Island is that it's retardedly easy to change this POV, even with grown men.
SandwichesOfOpium
My parents used cleaning as punishment, now my house is spotless at all times.
IridescentLotus
So did mine, and I'm messy as hell because of it. OCD mother
iwillmessagerandompeoplegifs
Same here
pancreas
at least it's a constructive punishment. I try to use jogging as a form of self harm at times and it makes me run way faster.
Bishopcdn
Me too. Cuutting, strangulation and substance abuse never got me what I needed like a hard sprint for as lo g as my lungs would take me.
lllthssm
To be fair I hate burpees and enjoy other exercise so maybe it will just fuel his hatred of burpees alone
EternalSunshineOfTheSpotlessMind
Burpees are a punishment no matter how you view exercise.
Jennalele
amen to that
nebworb
Yes. When I was on a swim team missing practice resulted in a 200 Fly or 200 burpee punishment.
IridescentLotus
Haha true that
circlebreaker
Are people shocked by this kind of stuff? Roll it back to the 90's; I loved Fallout Tactics when I was a kid.
KeeleonOhms
To be fair, an isometric low poly strategy game is not the same as a violent bloody modern FPS.
gimking
When you grew up you realized it"s a bad game, right?
circlebreaker
Boooo! *hurls Nuka Cola bottle*
gimking
Okay, I was dissapointed compared to 1 and 2.
gimking
I deserved that.
gimking
Okay, I was dissapointed compared to 1 and 2.
gimking
Okay, I was dissapointed compared to 1 and 2.
gimking
Okay, I was dissapointed compared to 1 and 2.
Pynktacos
My 9 year old sons favourite game is Skyrim. Fallout isnt really that bad of a game compared to some of the others ive seen kids play
KeeleonOhms
Id ve more concerned he,ll turn into a competitive asshole playing For Honor than the violence honestly.
my90srapnameispoodrizzle
It's still not good. The gore in Fallout makes me uncomfortable, and I'm a 24 year old man.
Pynktacos
Seriously? Think you need to harden up a bit
GavinScreaming
That gore in fallout is so over the top it's pretty much comical
Mountaineer30680
I call BS. Not that the gore makes you uncomfortable, but that you're a man.
my90srapnameispoodrizzle
Lol okay. Hit me with some more machismo.
nasreal
Really? I found the gore in the fallout series to be about as believable as Monty Python gore. Or like campy cult horror movies.
my90srapnameispoodrizzle
It doesn't need to be realistic to be unsettling. "The Thing" is about the most unrealistic movie gore-wise, but it still turns my stomach.
nasreal
The thing scares you because you're a human person, and it's a masterpiece lol.
my90srapnameispoodrizzle
And from experience, exposure to gore is negative for kids. My next door neighbor used to play a lot of Mortal Kombat when we were little(1)
NyQuilDaydream
My parents let us watch R-rated movies when we were little, it made sex seem like a normal thing and not some hidden taboo act...
KeeleonOhms
So youre saying theres no problem showing pornography to children...?
fadecomic
I did the same with my kids so they wouldn't think murder was some taboo act.
worb84
Only two movies I wasn't allowed to watch growing up: Basic Instinct and Showgirls. Glad my parents barred Showgirls. It was fucking awful!
worb84
But all of the awesome 80s and 90s action movies were fair game!
IridescentLotus
Not that I'm pro-taboo, but making it normal would that desensitize it so kids would have sex younger?
INeverThoughtIdMakeThisAccount
Not necessarily. All depends on how it's explained, what their hormones do, what choices they make... Etc.
IridescentLotus
True, to each their own parenting style I guess
Redenbacher09
They're going to have sex eventually. My parents made it normal, gave condoms as joke gifts. Practiced safe sex when I did, mom was proud.
fluortanten
nope. Kids have sex no matter if they're from Sweden or the sex sheltered US. However, by learning about it we have much fewer teen pregs.
KeeleonOhms
Are you suggesting that letting kids watch pornography teaches them to not have babies... sounds like correlation without causation.
fluortanten
nice strawman, but less education and more shielding does statistically lead to more unwanted pregnancies.
NyQuilDaydream
Did you just assume I was handsome XD everyone is different so I can only speak from my experience and it didn't.
NyQuilDaydream
It just made us a hell of a lot smarter than the christan kids.
nasreal
1 Kids are already feeling those feelings at a pretty young age, people are just not comfortable talking about it. Wife started her...
nasreal
2 period at 9, which is young but not unheard of, after puberty has begun, it's going to begin those urges. We should be way more...
Linnywtf
The way you say this makes it sound like you are an arab hareem owner who got married at 9 :D
nasreal
3 concerned with effective and correct sex education, than with desensitization. There's an abismal amount of abstinence only ed still.
TheRealSpaghettiMonster
So?
