Can someone tell me A, WTF is up with the single word "caption" thing, and B, why does this horror persist? (And yes, if you're a fan of it, sure, just go right ahead and assume i'm attacking the validity of every thought you've ever held, and impugning your parentage.)
And then the guy paying him actually set him up to get killed and it turns out anybody working for a paycheck is ultimately on the same side of the capital vs labor struggle.
Coming off the heels of "seinfeld made whole episodes revolving around petty stuff", a lot of sitcoms tried to follow suite. But didn't have the same comedic effect.
That makes them both crazy as shit for just answering with "Hello" back then you greeted with who they had reached cause there was no screen or anything most of the time to check what you just dialed so it was "polite" to confirm that the caller got the right number.
"crazy as shit" - I was taught to answer with "Hello" until we knew the caller. That was when I was a kid, because later we got DECT phones with caller ID
It’s by a country mile the most likeable character he’s ever played. I can understand not liking the show as it’s quite contrived and trope-y but his character is a serviceably written Everyman. There’s not much there to hate.
Hard disagree. It started out with a stale premise, but the show and the characters gained their own identity pretty soon. Doug was a mostly likable and jovial guy, Carrie was well meaning, but they basically took turns being the bad guy due to Doug's laziness or Carrie's ambitious or controlling nature.
Nah, he was very selfish and condescending towards Carrie most of the time, always talking about his problems and issues and everyone else be damned. They tried to pass it off as jovial but boy did it not work. The whole taking turns being the bad guy setting i did notice, that was just bad writing. I'm not saying the show was bad, just mall blart.
It's true he was very self-centered; that was basically the root of his problems (I don't know about condescending though). But I'm not sure that it was bad writing to have both his and Carrie's faults driving the plot. It just shows that they're both kind of jerks in their own ways, and often disliked by people around them.
I think they made a show based on one of these horrid sitcoms, where it was half a psychological thriller or something the moment the main male lead (antagonist) was off the screen, but anytime he was, sitcom mode engaged? Can’t remember the name; pretty sure it was insulting him though.
Selfish, chickenshit and constantly lying to someone -mostly his wife. Carrie was a bitch mostly because Doug was an insufferable child. There were some good jokes but the show itself was pretty blah.

My personal favorite movie of his is Here Comes the Boom. Great feel good sports movie, and he nails the Nice Guy role.
