I'm not sure if their flag is an actual depiction of a winter landscape (sky, forest, snow) but it sure as hell looks awesome.

2 out of 3 baltic countries have had their 100th anniversary this year, Latvia will be next.

FP edit: Wow first time here, gonna be a good day? If the legend holds true i am granted one wish, right? Plz send recipes.

Palju õnne!

Was that photo taken in Estonia? Because if so, the flag accuracy is estonishing.

Happy birthday Estonia, from a small American girl to you. And beautiful pic op

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The greatest flag.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

USA here. Had a long convo with a friend about which county has the best flag. Settled on Estonia. (ours is dogshit, btw)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

There's a few things a flag needs to be good: simplicity, ease of reproduction, a striking impact, and a badass color scheme

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Germany was right behind Estonia, but blue/black/white > black/red/yellow. France also has a very good one. USA is busy and asymmetrical.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I was unaware there were so many Estonias. I thought there was only one.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seeing how things are going, I guess we all have go to Latvia for that now.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Considering their treatment of ethnic Russians i'm surprised their regime is getting away with so little bullying.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

What?! I don't know where you get that information, there were troubles decades ago, now everyone gets along well.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At my workplace like half are ethnic Russians, we live the same lives, work together live side by side, we date and marry etc

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hail, hail, Estonia, a land, I didn't make up!!!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

air came out of my nose at a faster rate than usual, thank you for that

Happy birthday from Sweden, your neighbours across the pond!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Palju õnne!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an estonian I can confirm the flag comes from that

8 years ago | Likes 266 Dislikes 2

I can also confirm Estonia ...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where exactly are you from.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The blue really does represent the blue sky. When ever you feel like you are in danger or trouble, you can look up to the sky for solace

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

the black one is also almost true, It is not so much of the trees or the forest, but the ground below. it is about land cultivation.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The white is not snow, It is purity (so can be pure white snow). Also represents the white bark on birch trees!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Estonia can i confirm flag

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As a confirm I can Estonian.

8 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 3

I tried Estoning once...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

An an italian I can confirm it too

8 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

As*

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an Englishman, now American Citizen, I Too will confirm this.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Wait, what?

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Italian flag: Green for Caesar salad, white for the Alpine Mountains, red for pasta sauce.

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Fun fact: ceasar salad is not an italian dish and nobody eats it here

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Green for the beautiful countryside, red for the proud legions, blue for loyalty during war

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well, as an estonian, I can say that it's not true.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Shut up don't break the illusion dammit

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For making that statement I just got a text telling me I no longer have an estonian citizenship. Damn it, what have I done.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

ohhhh I get it now

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Estonia was part of the soviet union from 1940 to 1991, that doesn't seem like 100 years to me

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

They call it occupation in order to exclude an undesirable ethnic group from electoral process.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That is complete bullshit, the favorite party of the Slavic minorities the (center party, actually left more) is in power right now even

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All minorities who lived in Estonia were encouraged to get Estonian citizenship, only thing not allowed was dual citizenship

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, any Russian who doesn't want to live here can go to Russia, but mostly they prefer living here, also a lot of immigration from Ukraine

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, the integration is going quite well by now, Russians etc in Estonia are pretty happy to live here, we had some issues in the past tho

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd like to point out how RIDICULOUSLY attractive the women of Estonia are.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haha, good mix of genes from all sides + that (a bit weird) Russian influence of wearing a lot of makeup and fake tan and revealing clothes

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I always saw the flag in nature during winter. I think blue = sky, I heard the black symbolizes either the dirt of our land or our soul...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

More like xenophobia.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I bet there will be lots of kiiking going on

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

??

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're in for an education snippet! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiiking

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, I’ve seen this! Thanks for the education

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Too cold for that right now :D

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait what? I am fairly certain they got their independence after the soviet union colapsed and not after ww1. What 50 years of ocopation /1

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

dosn't count? Like it never happend? Alright. /2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They had working government throughout it all and the occupation was seen as illegal by other countries. Technicalities maybe, but from 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

what I've heard/seen of Estonians (neighbour country), they've always held their identity and system through it all and sought freedom

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Estonia was occupied, but Estonia still kind of existed as a part of Soviet Union, where we were forced into. The republic started in 1918

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

pretty much

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Estonia was still not the same thing as Russia, a bit in the same way that Estonia is still Estonia, even when it is in the EU

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They call it occupation to have a basis for revoking citizenship rights from ethnicities who would inconveniently vote no on important stuff

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

All "minorities" are welcome to vote how they want, and right now the "center" party is in power that is the favorite of slavic minorities

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only thing is you can't get a dual citizenship, that was made so during the collapse of Soviet Union to be sure Estonia stayed independent

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What?! Most Russians and Ukrainians etc in Estonia have citizenship. And I have never heard of any citizenship being revoked in Estonia.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The only reason Estonia is currently in EU and NATO is because ethnic Russian population had their voting rights taken away in early 90s.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What?!?? I have many friends who are ethnic Russian, I myself am like quarter Russian, everybody is encouraged to vote here lol

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unless you and your parents were stripped of voting rights and given apatrid documents for being Russian.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9)but it has turned out fine so far. Russians in Estonia aren't anti-EU or Nato or any way politically too different from Estonians

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

13) no matter if their ancestry is Russian on Ukrainian or Estonian. We get along fine and we have no big political views really

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5)nothing was "taken away" from anyone. I don't know where your information comes from. It doesn't make sense on any level.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

12) Actually the political situation right now has no issues about pro-Russia or pro-whatever else, the people of Estonia are pretty similar

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8) Also most ethnic Russians, like most ethnic Estonians didn't really care too much about NATO and EU either, Estonian feared EU kind of

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

4)who were mostly people who had only been here for a short time, like few years and didn't qualify to get citizenship or chose not to.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's not true, people being born and grow old in Estonia with apatrid documents being stateless.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3)get Estonian citizenship and passport etc when USSR disappeared, nothing was ever taken away, some people just didn't get citizenship

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11) agree with ethnic Russians too actually, and the very young generation too actually, that's why they are in power right now.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

7) capital Tallinn's city council or whatever for example the ruling party has been the one that Russians and old Estonians prefer.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

6) Ethnic Russians in Estonia are fine and prefer to live here and not in Russia, we get along fine. As long as I can remember in our

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2) People don't get their voting rights taken away here and never based on ethnicity. Some people in the 90s who lived here didn't choose to

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10) Russians just tend to prefer more left-wing parties here, while some Estonians kind of don't like those bc communism, but old Estonians
