I mean it's how nature does it. Big colorful indicators that I NEED SOMEONE!

In some stores in Sweden you can buy a pink shopping basket and part of the money goes to the cancer fund.

This video shows all we want in a subtitle program. They don't try to steal the show. They just function.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Do they have the "it's complicated" color available?

2 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

"Romance on aisle 4. ...*sigh*... And cleanup."

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i'd grab one simply because it was the closest

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I want something like this in my country so bad.

Just simply not having wedding rings isn’t enough. A lot of people live together without tying the knot for years or forever.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

So? Many people nowadays don't feel the need to get validation of their relationship by following some made up religious rituals and spending insane amounts of cash on the whole thing.

I have known so many couples who just got married legally for tax or other civil law purposes like inheritance or securing the legal status of a common child - it is simply a practical decision.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

My point was about it being visible that you’re single and looking for a partner.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depending on store, they aren't always pink, one near where I work has just different shaped, both black. The "old style" is rebranded as "single-basket" and the new baskets are the kind you can see in the corner of the start of the video. Cute idea, don't know any story that they've worked as ice breaker between to singles and resulted in meetcutes. Tho it's not like I know everyone or actively seek these stories out :P

2 weeks ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 2

I know acouple who kinda new each other, from being on a same course at their school, one day one of them saw the other one with a singlesbasket at a store so next time they we're involved on a same school thing, The other one made some moves and uuhhh, they ended up being together like 6 years and making couple of humans together.

2 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Ice Breaker Activity: Try and make a graceful comment based on the contents of their basket.

Pro Tip: Don't do this while they are in the pharmacy/hygiene sections.

Okay, I stand corrected, now I've seen some theoretical icebreaking activity around these. I guess in decade or so I'll witness one in actual store :O

"ooh, nice melons!"

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

"Oh I see you too bought tampons."

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There's a very cynical part of me that thinks this isn't as much a "positive" selection thing as it is a sign that if they're carrying a "normal" basket it's meant to be a clear sign that they want to be left alone - because if they wanted to entertain, they'd have chosen the other kind.
...although that is an assumption based on both how many pink baskets are there and the one Fin I've worked with. Maybe it's actually a safe place where curiosities can just be good, and I'm overthinking it.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I mean...if one's true, what's wrong with the other one also being true? Carry a pink one if you wanna meet someone, carry a black one if you wanna be left alone. Why is that bad? What else is there?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The implication of my cynicism was that it was created to better identify and punish unwelcomed harassment - possibly, but not exclusively including that which escalates into stalking and/or violence - rather than any actual positive connotation about random interactions in a grocery store potentially blooming into something to get dough-eyed about.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*doe-eyed, like the female deer. Dough is a different thing.

I've been to Finland and it's best to carry this basket straight to the condom aisle and wait.

I met my wife by throwing gummy worms at her until she agreed to go out to sushi with me.

2 weeks ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 5

Is your name Johnny? My sister had a guy try to flirt with her by throwing gummy bears at her years ago. Coincidence?

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope but it sounds like someone who bought my book.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds pretty reasonable

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am happy for both of you, but I would suggest anyone to try out different approaches before resorting to this one.

2 weeks ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

gummy bears instead, got it.

2 weeks ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I gave her haribo sugar free bears. Let's see how this works out!

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Sour gummy worms and bubble wrap for me. Then shiny D&D dice. Math rocks going click-clack excited her goblin brain.

Autistic girls need a LOT of special care and feeding

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eh, its been 12+ years now. You're not wrong, but its worth it.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I agree 100%

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tbh that would also work for me

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why throw? Seems like a waste of perfectly good gunmy worms.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Different bait for different catches

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's like one of those games where you gotta keep feeding a creature til it levels up. And in this case it was the cute girl in the cubicle next to me.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Into her mouth.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe they were sugar free?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wow another great way to find out I'm not wanted in another country. I kid, with my luck she would be just being nice.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For this to work you need a high-trust society not rife with psychos, which rules out most of the US.

2 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Maybe implementing something like this is how we go about creating the high-trust society. Maybe we're such a low-trust society now because we STOPPED talking to strangers in public.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

“……and if you have a single pineapple in the basket…”

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What if you are single and not ready to mingle yet pink is your fav color and you want to match up with your dress? Also, what if you sre a male?

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is amazing going to other countries in general. That being said, grocery stores are a great insight into a society.

My dumb married ass would taken a pink one without looking at the sign just because it's a cool color.

Just because the U.S. president is a rapist doesn’t mean everyone is just 37 milli… ok yeah that’s too many fuck.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

need another one. eg pink for single, with a stop icon for single by choice.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My local Prisma doesn't have those. And if it had, there would be only men taking those. And when women see that, they won't take that basket.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pink means you are single. Dripping blood means you want to stay single.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In the olden days before online dating, the most successful matches happened in the grocery store or Laundromat.

2 weeks ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 4

Good to know because online dating has never worked for me lol

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Or just going to work. Spending more time at work that with your family and friends opens up way more opprtunities.

You see a prospective partner deal with stress, how they deal with subordinates or bosses, how intelligent they are and how capable they can be - it's a lowkey, long term assessment center for finding a compatible partner.

I've seen this happen so many times at work and statistics have shown that a good percentage of couples met each other at the workplace.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Good point

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never shit in the sandpit you’re playing it. Workplace romance can be problematic.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

That's the usual saying which so many people ignore but i guess if it hits you it hits you.

Back in the day we saw an extra spicy situation where one of our bosses fell in love with a subordinate of hers and they made it official at the company christmas party that i didn't go to.

Days later when i came to work i though people were pulling my leg and i asked one of them directly when we were alone in the office.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. 1/2 of a research lab couple.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a Finn, I have never seen pink basket at stores. Must be a local, maybe just that one store thing. That said, I would love if we had that here.

2 weeks ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I've seen those in several places in Helsinki.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bonus points because it means you don't have to speak to a fellow Finn unless you *absolutely* want to.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is it only for woman or can single man also use them, and do they have special rainbow coloured ones?

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nothing there says that it would be only for women. Some rainbow additions would be nice :)

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

True, it doesn't and personally I wouldn't mind walking around with a pink basket, but lots of guys would feel weird walking around with one it being pink (cultural pressure, can't really blame the individual) so it would excluded them. Maybe the inventor thought to mostly target woman, or if man couldn't get over themself they weren't nice enough to be part of the experience ;)

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I donno. I feel like if someone is so insecure about their masculinity that they couldn't carry a pink basket then they most like wouldn't be secure enough to signal "I'm single, please pick me" with any colored baskets anyway.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good point.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do gays still have their handkerchief code or is it just a nightclub thing?

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Been around since atleast 2014, mostly on K-supermarkets, The baskets are not always pink.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In the US if people advertised their marital status while shopping they would 100% get creeps following them to their car.

2 weeks ago | Likes 550 Dislikes 15

Yes, but finnish people can avoid talking when using these.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That and even more targeted ads.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If all my dating life has thought me anything, those will be mostly used by guys. Because as a woman you have to filter through the garbage but as a guy you hope for an echo from your call to the void.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You mean another single?

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

"So... You buy antihistamine too, nice".... "Yeah, I buy the family sized ibuprofen as well".... "That's a good deodorant, I use it sometimes myself"...

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The baskets are how finnish witches hunt.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Reminds me of the cop who looked up a woman using police resources and followed her to her house.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yes

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. Nowhere else in the world are women raped or harassed. Only America still falls to the patriarchy. /s

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Pretty sure thats everywhere, sadly...

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think we can all agree that anything that starts with "In the US..." is just going to be a net negative.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah in this country that sounds like a good way to get kidnapped, trafficked and raped to death.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Right because the only thing stopping that from happening nonstop is that the murdering rapists just don’t know which of the the ladies in the grocery store alone are *actually* single or not.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Every country has them. But Finland is very safe overall. Women often feel comfortable walking alone at night.

2 weeks ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

If you go by self-reported surveys, Finland has a higher rate of sexual violence than the US. Lifetime sexual assault victimization rate of 57.1% vs 44%. https://www.reuters.com/world/one-three-eu-women-fac">6-03-03">https://www.reuters.com/world/one-three-eu-women-face-violence-most-cases-unreported-survey-finds-2026-03-03 https://www.cdc.gov/nisvs/media/pdfs/sexualviolence-brief.pdf

2 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

There's a problem of what is considered as sexual assault is different. But yes Finland is not an utopia.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dear friends moved to Finland a few years ago and other than the occasional kerfuffle around language they are loving life.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I miss feeling safe enough to walk at night. I grew up in a very small town, no real concerns there. I’ve always been a night owl but now I live in a city with a population of 100k and definitely don’t feel safe being out after dark. I miss lightning bugs too

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

100k is a small city 💁‍♂️

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the tip. Tired of getting peppersprayed.

2 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Ah ya got taught to chase the ladies ya want eh? Yeah... shit needs to stop.

2 weeks ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

It’s not just that this is a shitty thing to say. It’s also that as a joke, it sucks.

2 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I don't think the US has a monopoly on creepy entitled men, but yeah.

2 weeks ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

Usa is just 1st place in creepy assholes.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, we don't, but the enterprising nature of the American character means that such men often feel empowered to just do... *whatever* they want.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Ever been to India….wow

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I call out the US specifically because the culture of personal responsibility and toxic individualism leads to this type of issue being addressed as "well then those women shouldn't have used the pink basket if they weren't carrying a firearm and prepared to use it" and not "the creeps will not be tolerated".

2 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

We dont have a monopoly on victim blaming either.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Is your contention that other bad actors exist and other cultures are tolerant of bad things? Because yes if you generalize anything sufficiently it all becomes homogeneous.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Im content to not engage with someone determined to "america bad" everything and waste my time

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Look, some of us live in the US, voted against all the bullshit, and aren't horrible toxic monsters, and we're tired of hearing folks talk like the US is the only place where bad things happen

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Oh that happens regardless! There's a guy in my hometown who stands in the frozen section when the store is busiest and smells ladies hair as they try to grab ice cream or whatever for their families.

2 weeks ago | Likes 101 Dislikes 0

That's creepy
Report himand check his basement.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh if I EVER see him I WILL make a scene and call him the fuck out. My mom is much less confrontational and just wants to stay safe so she has learned to avoid him. Iirc she taught his kids in preschool years ago.
Also we don't have basements here but I'm sure he has creepy stuff somewhere. Ick.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What the fuck is wrong with your country?! In Poland for something like this you wouldn't need to call the cops. Everyone in the store would "kindly" explain to the creep that it was the last time they tried something like this. How did your society become so dysfunctional?

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fuck if I know, it's a shit hole here. At least I live in California which is *relatively* decent.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

YIKES!

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep, happened to me a few months ago. And I was dressed really frumpy too, wth

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm so sorry, that's terrible and completely unfair regardless of your outfit.
Ice cream guy hasn't gotten me but I've definitely been wearing the most innocuous clothing and still touched with absolutely no warning by creeps. Unfortunately they're going to creep regardless.
For better or worse, the good ones ignore clothes too. My husband asked for my number while I was in baggy jeans, a homemade unisex tie dye shirt, no makeup, and messy hair.
Unfortunately it's on US to protect ourselves.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I lectured the guy LOUDLY. Like, I put on my teacher voice and explained exactly why this was so uncomfortable and would he like it if a man did this to him? He looked so humiliated, and honestly I don't feel bad. Maybe he needed to understand why many women don't like being followed.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm so proud of you, that's awesome that you stood up to him!

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just really enjoy shampoo scents..

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then hang out in the shampoo aisle like a normal creep

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Somehow I don't think ice cream nose cares if they're single.

2 weeks ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that's my point. Creepers are gonna creep regardless, unfortunately.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They can creep in their own basements.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If they did that, they wouldn't be creepers.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I should talk though lol, my husband followed me out to my car to ask me out and we've been together 18 years! (I swear there's more to the story that makes it less creepy than this one part out of context that I'm sharing)

2 weeks ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Mine did the same thing!
Not in the US tho.
I didn't know this was a thing.
It's been 43 years.
We went out for ice-cream across the street.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Aww that's adorable! We just did coffee (I insisted we go somewhere public because I had no idea who this man was and I was still relatively young)
18 years here, our 10 year wedding anniversary is in a couple of weeks <3
