Tired of listening to her talk shit about my husband and rub it in my face that she thinks her husband is way better because he gives her his whole paycheck. And it's not just the whole money thing. She talks shit about the way I look, the way I dress, my hobbies, anything. She calls me fat and lazy because my antipsychotics caused weight gain (I am dieting and exercising daily!). She calls me stupid for not believing her when she says my husband is cheating on me because "all men cheat." When my father-in-law was dying from cancer she called my in-laws dumb because he wanted to do treatment to live longer, she said, "You guys are stupid. Just let him die, he's going to die anyway!" I told her once I was diagnosed with bipolar and PTSD and she said I have a weak mind. She used to physically and emotionally abuse me as a kid. I was never good enough. But still a part of me wanted her to be happy for me in some way. I don't know why it took me so long but I feel better now, lol :)

on meds AND exercising?? You are winning in my book. And good for you for blocking her negativity from your life.
petrovpoo
You made the right choice, your mother is a sociopath, and you are better off without her in your life.
DonRudolf
she sounds like a real piece of shit, good for you
ImperfectDad
In my experience, happy people don't steal the happiness from other people. Seems to me she lives lavishly and is still unhappy so must cut others down.
Definitely not worth paying attention to that bullshit.
beefsteak73
I did the same 6 years ago. It’s hard and it hurts but she doesn’t know me and it took me way too long to realize that. I figure this is the best gift I could give her - a perpetual victimhood complex.
sakm
I hope it brings you more happiness and less negativity.
JustDumbCommentsAndCorrections
The best things in life are free. For example: blocking her didn't cost a dime.
dpat13
What will she have if the money dries up? You will still have a loving husband and a purple duffel bag. Enjoy your emotional freedom
iwantmytwodollars
Never let someone take your power. I've been reading the book, Let Them. The author talks about keeping your power. Your mom needs help, not you, but that's not your problem anymore.
IgnisInvictus
Good for you!
And it wasn't just making you feel bad when you're excited about a new purple bag, that husband one upmanship game is hella toxic.
You do not need that toxicity.
adamlstf9
Anyone else get the feeling mom’s “perfect husband” is obviously cheating on her and that’s why he gives her the money? If mom was smart and had actual self-confidence/respect she’d probably leave hubby, but then she’d be a broke bitch and that’s worse to her than the infidelity. Mom sounds real insecure and immature.
evilspock
It takes a lot of strength to cut ties with a toxic parent - I had to do it 30 years ago. Stick by your guns, your life is better without a constant negative drain on it.
dentros1
I feel for you, seriously. My mom is pissed I bought my dad's house after he died of covid in 2020, and she said it was fine, but she has been a bitch ever since, I had the audacity to move 220 miles away. But the taxes on my place were killing me, I was just laid off, I knew I could get top dollar for my place and pay his off and own it outright, kind of a shithole its only half finished, but its mine. But she picks fights over petty shit, and I can't even have a simple conversation with her
CakeIsALie227
Cut toxic people out of your life. The BS she spouts is a reflection of her character not yours.
ChelVanin
Your mom sounds like a middle school mean girl. You definitely don’t need that.
henryv1598
I’ve been following you for a while now. You are an awesome person and your mom doesn’t deserve your time or energy anymore. You deserve better, and it sounds to me like your husband is giving you the love and respect you deserve. Your mom sounds like a vain, shallow, materialistic woman who is too self absorbed to realize her daughter is a far better human being than she is.

She can sit on a stick and rotate. We'll be your mom now!

I'm fine with that. I'm a 6'3"guy but I bet I look fabulous in a mom dress and heels.

I was thinking sundress and Chuck Taylor lift platform heel with a floral pattern. Purely for the comfort and support.

The Gary Numan method, "Me! I disconnect from you"

Damn, reading that description is like playing Abusive Parent Bingo and getting a blackout.

Remember, just because a toxic person happens to share your DNA that does not mean they have to be part of your emotional, or, if necessary, physical life.
FanBladeFleshlight
Going no contact with my mother (and all family for that matter) over a year ago is one of the best things that I've ever done. Since I did that, I drink WAY less, my finances are better, my relationships with friends and my fiancé are better, and I don't cringe when I get a notification anymore.
I hope you have the same results @OP. Even if it's just a little peace of mind at first, it's amazing how transformative it can be to remove the toxic people from your life.
RiverShivers
She sounds miserable. And that doesn't have to be any of your problem. Good for you

That's though to do, but this random internet stranger is proud of you for making the right choice for yourself and prioritizing your mental health.

Sometimes we have to grieve the person we hope/wish/are taught to believe a person is & face up to the fact they're not that person. The woman who births & raises us may be our mothers, which culture dictates are naturally always selfless, will be kind & love us. We look at them and want this Mother; but it's often a lie, &letting go of the hope she'll be that perfect, caring person is both difficult & freeing, once you get to the other side of it.

Yeah. It's funny in a tragic way how in the outsiders eyes, the complaining teenager is always the one who is wrong. And often people have no problems commenting on it, if they happen to overhear some trouble between a parent and a child. Made me seriously question myself if something really is wrong with me when mom is just "trying her best" and so on.
FoxySpirit
My mom's mom was a Nazi work camp warden. Lets say not a lot of warmth and tenderness coming from that woman.
yamsonyamsonyams
Yeah I had to go through this with my mother and one of my siblings - they are very similar people
It is difficult, it is painful. But on the other side you get cold distance and no understanding from other family members
Still worth it to have a better understanding and acceptance of who they really are and what the relationship really is
OtterlyMagnificent
I'm still working my way through the 'Unconditional Love' from my parents and brother actually being conditional upon me being a cishet Christian father, married to a cishet Christian woman.
...They have serious issues with me being none of those (Trans, Bisexual, Deist, married to a trans, bisexual witch woman and a cishet Norseman.)
RingKichardTheThrid
I’d watch that sitcom
OtterlyMagnificent
It's not nearly as entertaining as it sounds.
tiptoeingthru
With a narcissistic mother like that... would've done same. Don't let anyone dull your shine. Not even your nearest and dearest. Especially then. They're supposed to help you soar. Not pour oil over your wings.
LenneSamunai
That's a nice phrase. I'll have to keep that in mind whenever my hypocritical mother is acting up again.

Whoa that's actually pretty fucking cool!
arawhotdogsuspendedinatupperwareofvaseline
That's actually sick OP. you should do a post with pics of all your figurines
MaybeIllDisappear
That is amazing! Looks a little like that Pazuzu statue from the thumbnail. Who is this one?
Zinfandella
It's Hekate/Hecate, the Greek goddess of witchcraft :)
MaybeIllDisappear
It is! The wings threw me off. That is really cool. How many do you have?
