This idea is so old, even Socrates was saying the youth is nothing but brainrot. "The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as if they alone knew everything and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them."
I think the difference is older brainrot was balanced out. We still did non-brainrot stuff, interacted IRL with friends, etc. We had lives outside the internet. Also internet stuff stayed on the internet. Now you have AI generated shit, skibidis, etc sold as merchandise in stores and stuff.
Evolution of "brainrot" over the years. Essentially, it's depicting a repeating cycle of defining what "brainrot" is every few years. As for what "brainrot" is, it's essentially all the memes, jokes and in-jokes, among other things, of a generation. So what it is changes every few years.
brainrot (joke aside, I think the post is saying that as memes evolve there's a tendancy for the previous cycle of memes to be worthwhile and the later versions to be rot)
