This was an example of how brilliant the writers were, the actor wanted to transition to films so he left the main cast and "ascended', and then when his film career didn't take off the writers had him 'descend' back to the TV show main cast.

It'll sound silly but it comes to mind a lot as some of my favorite online personalities have stepped away from the limelight, sometimes with no particular path forward in mind. Did you ever play with the HUD off? Every one in a while I’d enter a hostile village and turn my HUD off and just try to make it through on what I could see and hear.
That world was already huge. But even a little village became gigantic when I didn’t have a minimap or any other UI to guide me.

They had to install a cat flap to the afterlife for him, because he was always going in or out. (They learned from Hell's mistake, from the time they installed revolving doors for Sam and Dean Winchester. They kept rotating the doors so fast, that the wind generated by the rotation made Hell freeze over.)

The first time he dies is in the movie, the second time is in season 1 "The Nox", the third time is season 4 "the light", the fourth time is season 5 "Meridian", the fifth time is season 8 "Reckoning".
There are also many near misses and other "technical" deaths that are the result of alternate timelines or realities or other phenomenon.
He technically dies in season 10 "Unending", because the Odyssey is briefly nearly completely destroyed during Sam's reverse time plan.

Season 4 "2010" which is an alternate timeline that they manage to avoid in season 5 "2001" and I think as far as I remember the entire team dies off screen in season 3 "out of mind" when Hathor captures them, then brainwashes them so they forget, then doing this whole elaborate cryo thing where she has her Jaffa pose as Stargate command 80 years in the future.
He holds the record for on screen deaths in the series but O'Neill holds the overall record because of season 6 "Abyss" where he is 2/

Do O’Neill and Teal’c ever test what happened if either died in the time loop episode? Obviously that would be a very risky test compared to most of the episode, so I don’t think they do, but it’s been a while.

Play golf, learn to juggle, French kiss carter, do arts and crafts in the mess with plates and sauces, learn ancient which neither of them seem to remember in later seasons.
But no dying.
Though the episode implies that there have been dozens or even hundreds of loops so, its possible.

This was also due to Daniel's actor being upset that his character wasn't getting meaningful development/story time, right? He wanted to leave the show. Then the fans got salty about him leaving and MacGyver wanted to cut back his commitment, so they walked this storyline back and Daniel was featured more heavily.

I finally just finished my complete rewatch of it. And I was kind of upset how much Daniel changes, from nerd to jock, for no apparent reason within the show's universe. So I figured it had to be about the actor.
But I mean watch the movie and first two seasons again. The show should have been named "The adventures of Daniel Jackson". He's the main topic of the show, usually the hero and gets every woman (as was deemed appropriate at the time). Losing his voice of >

Sadly, there is no official reason or confirmed theory why there was difference in the two names, his son name is also different.
I like to think it was a mistake that first got noticed by fans and then RDA got the idea to make it a running gag.

That's legit. The movie has its own vibe and is pretty solid. I avoided the show for yeeeears because I thought "Ugh, spinoff" *eyeroll*. But then I left Sci-Fi on after Farscape, starting about S4, for reasons. I liked that it didn't take itself too seriously, developed a very deep lore that tied in to actual human history, and was a multi-season alternative to the other, major Star franchises (Trek and Wars). My teen son and I are halfway through S7 now and it's a fun, low-effort watch.

Atlantis is easily my favorite, but SG1 got way deeper in the lore than either of the other 2. SGU was just a weird watch for me. It was fun, but it didn't always seem to know what it wanted to do or be.

Fair, I admit, while I loke SG1 a lot, the first two and last two seasons feel very weak to me, that said, Atlantis is an excellent successor, and while Universe changes the vibe a lot and doesn't feel stargatey, it's excellent on it's own merits.

I'm one of the few who absolutely LOVED Universe. It's a much different vibe, sure, but it builds on Stargate lore and deals with some crazy huge sci-fi concepts that were so much fun to see and think about.

Universe takes way too long to get to its point and then ruins it with the weird-ass stones that suffer the same consent issues as the wish in Wonder Woman 84 when people swap bodies then go and get their fuck on. That and just trying so. fucking. hard. to be Battlestar Galactica. Yeah sure whatever lets just go ahead and condone torture I'm sure that's what O'Neill would do.

Universe was great scifi but suffered from being bad stargate that was sold as stargate, yanno? Like if I order a pizza and got some amazing fried noodles instead, I might still be upset because I was expecting pizza.

I've heard that argument a lot but I've never really understood it. SGU was tonally different and there was much more interpersonal conflict among the primary cast, but it still seemed like Stargate to me, just... bigger. Scarier. Less safe.
Seems more like a pizza with different toppings, but as long as it's not anchovies I'll still eat it.
