Your confusion was not a personal failure. It was the intended outcome. Now that we're seeing clearly, we refuse to let them manufacture the next enemy in peace.

Acid attacks and honor killings. A shit ton of them. Conservative religious oppression of women. You can manufacture enmity between countries, but hatred of women is a bigger part of society than CIA ops and "gamergate" brainwashing. It's pervasive, and 60% of women in the world are enslaved property. Acid attacks don't heal well, so you'll have a hard time convincing me no harm no foul.

Yeah no. Islam as an ideology is nothing to prop up. Sure there has been negative discourse around Islam but for good reasons. It has been an ideology of conquest and subjugation for all of its existence and will not stop just because. There is no such thing as moderate Islam and saying that the Quran has anything good to say about woman should read it again. Stop pretending organised religions are anything but tools of power and suppression.

For anyone who doubts this was an organized effort, I recommend reading the first couple chapters of this and then looking up the author and also his mentor Paul E. Vallely: https://www.slideshare.net/slideshow/mindwar-by-michael-a-aquino/251970415#32

I mean shit, the first Iron Man movie that kicked off the entire damn MCU was full of the sentiment.
AntaNce
ALL the cop & spy shows were middle eastern (Islamic) bad guys for YEARS. Still are, but they used to, too.
JayDeeDubs
But even in the first iron man, the *real* villain is a rich white dude worried about a threat to his wealth
DMSledge
Well yes, because part of the narrative is maintaining the image of "people living in caves" etc.
bananabonanza3
It’s true! But I bet the opening sequence where he builds the first Iron Man suit stuck with plenty of people.

I would never guess from their slogan, which is yelling "death to_____." im sure you can fill the blank.

I guess I, at least, need you to be clearer about what you mean and your intention with your comment.
You can start with who you mean by "their" since you replied to my comment regarding Israel.
Jimthebutler
Israel yelling anti-Islamic rhetoric with no repercussions.
sitenickname
Ah, okay I get you now. I thought you might be referring to Iran not Israel, but you mean like in this instance where it turned out to be Jew on Jew hate but "Death to Arabs" was the cry by the victims (or the screeching Israeli Maccabi fans did all over Amsterdam before playing victim).
Jimthebutler
Israel wants more genocide and is attempting a holy war. Anyone wanting a holy war doesnt understand that no god would want it.

Do Arab women really need saving? Anthropological reflections on cultural relativism and its Others - Lila Abu Lughod
https://www.sfu.ca/~decaste/OISE/page2/files/abu-lughod.pdf
Lila Abu Lughod is an Arab Anthropologist that has written extensively on the topic. In the above article she discusses some interesting Iranian/middle eastern perspectives she experienced about how the Arab women she lived with perceive themselves and their Others (generally speaking Americans) in the ‘Western’ world.

Thank you for this. I look forward to delving into this later.

From what I've been seeing lately it is the Israeli woman who needs saving as laid out repeatedly in this album:
/a/israels-rape-culture-tyIoZg3
And the nearly 50% of US women too who still face domestic abuse in their lifetimes.

What i found in my time deployed in majority Islamic nations is that the western perception of Islam as inherently misogynistic is a load of crap.
Women are deeply respected, and frankly even feared by their husbands/children. Its only in extremist homes that the woman is subjugated and it struck me that yet again there is another similarity to our extremists in the west.
And I dont just mean right wing terrorists or nazis even. Subjugation of women and viewing "your woman" as property is 1/
TinyBadger101
Yeah ... no. Islam isn't inherently more misogynistic than Christianity or Judaism, but the way it's implemented in many countries is pretty awful. In Saudi Arabia, women just got the right to drive. They still require male headship and cannot travel without a male family member's permission. Women are beaten and killed in many countries for not covering their hair or bodies. Rape is very common in those countries as well- women do not walk the streets alone. Things are not okay.

A fundamental feature found in every right wing stereotype from the white trash trailer king to the 20 year police veteran to the successful suburban landscaper who relocated to get away from "crowds".
Theres degrees to be found sure and its not a universal truth but it shows that our "entry level" right wingers and what we would call "extremists" mostly because they're brown, aren't so different and although I've never sat down and had a polite conversation with a Jihadist, I wouldn't be at 2/

All shocked to find that they are equivalent to MAGAs, the Proud Boys, the English Defence league, the AfD etc.
Because I know we joke about that, but I think if you could sit down and interview a hardcore member of ISIS or the Taliban, I think you'd be able to draw literal parallels within minutes. 3

Dick Cheney explained: US Foreign policy is to maintain sole global domination. Iran hostage crisis, Munich olympics, 9/11, Beirut bombings, numerous planes and ships hijacked. Those things happened and played a role in public perception. Its not all a media conspiracy
Eidodk
If you dare to talk about the Iran hostage crisis, without any context at all, which you seem so comfortable with, then you should probably read up on Operation Ajax. Literally every conflict on earth today is CIA initiated.
thewordofthedayis
Whather you think the acts were justified or not, reciprocal or not, the acts have their own consequences, which include a negative public perception by the civilian population that was the target of the terroristic acts. You cannot blame media manipulation entirely and ignore a long history of acts that were actually committed and widely reported
Eidodk
An absolute zero justification for any coercion or violence exists, but examine the cause, before the effect. Reason why Iranians hate the US, is US acting against Iran historically. Same issue applies pretty much to EVERY region that the US has meddled in, be it due to nationalizing oil, or due to hurting the profit of the united fruit company. It is clear that trump wants the 50's back, back when the WORST of US history happened. Hussein, Pinochet, Bin Laden - all stems from back then.
thewordofthedayis
I dont think we disagree on issues of cause/effect. I was just making the point that media coverage isn’t entirely to blame. Where we might disagree is whether it is appropriate to blame media coverage when acts of violence actually happened and have easily foreseen consequences. I tend to blame the terrorists for acts of violence, and for the public perception that results. For what it’s worth, the USA government is responsible for their acts of violence and the consequences of those acts.
sitenickname
Hmmm... I wonder what led up to all those.
History in the west starts with their own victimhood – leaving out the self-created part so it can be more effective propaganda.
thewordofthedayis
You may believe attacks on civilians were justified, but you cannot, simultaneously, assert that the negative perception and stereotypes of muslim terroristic threats are “manufactured.” Causing fear and overreaction was the goal of these terrorist attacks on a civilian population. It just didn’t play out in favor of these terrorists, that’s what OP seems to be complaining about
sitenickname
Do not assert for me what I believe or reinterpret what I wrote.
If you think attacks on civilians are bad then you should take a look at the Nakba and the girl's school in Iran as just a start. Attacks on civilians are not "okay" just because an organized military supported by US tax payers did it.
The US and UK and Germany and Israel (and a few others) are terrorist (and colonizing) governments.
thewordofthedayis
Again, none of what you are asserting contradicts my point that the islamist terrorist perception or stereotype wasn’t “manufactured by the media.” These terrorists wanted to be seen as scary and formidable, and they got their wish. It just didn’t intimidate or pacify their enemies in the way they hoped.
sitenickname
Obviously you are avoiding the links I provided you with as the media has indeed been deployed to manufacture most of the sentiment against Muslims and Arabs. It serves Israel and the West.
I remember when the Oklahoma building was bombed and everyone very crudely online blaming Muslims and Arabs and Sikhs being murdered because they had a "towel" on their heads. That was before 9/11. You know who the terrorists were then? Not just the bomber but all those claiming to know who was responsible.
sitenickname
As for your claim about those events it is far more insidious than that. I refer you to my first comment on this post:
