Here in Michigan, we have some pretty big charity galas. You can go to them if you like, you just have to buy a ticket. The Detroit Auto Show has a pretty major one every year to raise money for charity. It's $400 a ticket but there are plenty of other smaller ones. There are also plenty of ballroom dance events on things like Meetups and through different social groups and dance studios that go on pretty much all the time.
Yeah but if Carnivore Aurelius acknowledged that, they'd have to admit they're the reason they aren't getting laid by a classy ballroom dancer in the coat closet of Ye Olde Dance Halle. And of course we can't have that.
You also have to invest time in finding guests, learning how to dance, planning food, getting the correct clothing, and other concerns...which is why most people just use dating apps these days, unless they can afford an assistant or two to do the legwork.
There are debutante balls and catillions and societies for young adults that have Viennese waltz big formal parties every year. But yeah, you kinda need to be in the circles to know/access it.
Titanic movie: they had contrasting scenes of the rich people dancing, and the third class shindig, where Jack was swinging Rose around like a sack of potatoes. So yes, poor people also got together and danced
I taught Ballroom dancing for 11 years. Got to travel all over the place. Every year, there is, pretty much, a best of the best in Blackpool, England. It lasted an entire week. Every night we got to dress like James Bond and go to fancy dinner parties with dancing and like music. That was many moons ago.

again I ask... who the fuck is "they"? I imagine some Snidely Whiplash looking dude stealing a ballroom and cackling like a madman.

There are no paintings of poor people dancing because, y'know, the filth and poorness

This was also displayed in “Dirty Dancing”.

My favorite scene is when Patrick Swayze says "nobody puts Baby in a corner" and then freezes to death on a door in the Atlantic ocean.

I'm from Blackpool and it's nice that it has at least one decent "high class" cultural thing left after all these years
TexMexHex
Lol, im sorry. But it is literally the only thing classy in that town. We never left the hotel when we were there.
NSPike
Oh can't say I disagree haha
KingORedLions
I'm not surprised, the rest of the town is a... unique cultural experience.

Ladies and gentlemen, the famous British understatement ☝️

Coulda been worse.
Coulda been Glasgow.
Fairemont
Glasgow would have needed high culture at some point for it to be a possibility.
