Not a great comparison cuz people actually did, decades of pop culture cynicism has made that statement waaay more ironic than it ever was originally because Playboy actually had amazing articles and stories by big deal award wining authors and journalists. https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-41426419 Yeah there were tits but it was bathroom reading more akin to Rolling Stone nowadays. IIRC for a while they even printed a library edition without the pictorials and JUST the articles.

I’ve only been to hooters once, on a trip to Las Vegas (I believe it’s closed now) but I thought the food was nice and our server was lovely. Of course we were a group of gay guys so maybe we were less annoying to her hah. We had one flavour of chicken wing she recommended that was quite good.

I haven't been to a hooters in probably close to 10 years but when I used to go I never really had complaints about the food, waitresses, or the atmosphere.
I do understand it started tanking sometime after I quit going.

As it's true with all chain restaurants, depends on the location and especially the cooks. Have had hot garbage for food at a few and very good at others. When the 3 mile island and daytona wings are done well, it's worth revisiting. My local had a good run and traded car stereo work for coupons with waitresses when I was at circuit city in college. Did my best work after a few pitchers of beer at lunch.

I've honestly never had anything besides wings and fries. Fries are fine, the Three Mile Island is IMO, the best sauce I've ever had. Also Hoots is the only place to get breaded bone-in wings that I know of.
And I won't lie, the pretty girls are nice too. Though tbh I'm always jealous of their makeup, they look amazing lol.

The one closest to me had my favorite buffalo sauce, my friends and I used to go for all-you-can-eat wings every so often, make a day of it. I'm sure the waitresses appreciated that we were a bunch of nerds who never bothered harassing them, we just treated them like it was any other restaurant. It's not like we were paying extra to be there, after all.

It's highly location dependent. Some are literally worse than the hole-in-the-wall dive bar microwaving pizzas and walmart chicken nuggies, others are actually pretty good--on par with Applebees or TGI Fridays. Most are in the middle. Same with service quality, some you literally cant pay waitstaff to come take your order, others are on point.

I went once or twice many years ago. They used to have a really good ham hoagy. The waitress was really fun and was laughing like crazy when she delivered my buddy's sandwich after he asked them to "add enough bacon to give me a coronary". The sandwich was literally a mountain of bacon. There aren't many places these days that have actually gotten better so I'm certain Hooters has gone severely downhill since then.

You realize that’s an issue with the staff at that restaurant, not a problem with the food menu, right? It’s not that they are sourcing poor quality ingredients or using bad recipes, it’s that at that restaurant that day, you had a waitress or a cook that was high or dgaf.
