This was my first time making a coral tuile. And my first time making pandan honeycomb cake. And my first time using a siphon to make kiwi coconut foam. A lot of firsts today.

If you want everyone to think you're food is fancier than it is put a b̶i̶r̶d̶ tuile on it! It's literally just flour, water, oil and any flavor or coloring. I always see Michelin star chefs use these and now I'm like pfft that's easy.

These are called coral tuiles they're a thin wafer. I was able to make 10 with this recipe.

Ingredients:
50g water (or sub any juice or broth)
60g vegetable oil
10g flour
Pandan extract + food coloring

You just combine all the ingredients, pour it onto a medium hot pan and wait until it stops bubbling then peel it off with a flat spatula. It takes about a minute.

Here's the recipe: https://youtube.com/shorts/M9A9NSIhfJc?feature=share

My pandan honeycomb cake turned out delicious. I halved the original recipe because I didn't want it to overflow the pan which is why it's so short plus it deflates when it cools. This is the recipe I used: https://chawjcreations.com/2020/03/04/pandan-honeycomb-cake-banh-bo-nuong/

It tastes similar to the butter mochi I've made in the past but chewier and with more holes.

I don't really have a recipe for the foam I just pureed some kiwis, heated some coconut milk with coconut condensed milk, vanilla extract, and gelatin then combined everything together.

I used two whipits for the siphon. Shook it up put it in the fridge for an hour. Taking it out occasionally to shake.

I'm beginning to think I have a more severe allergy/sensitive tongue to kiwis and pineapple than I thought. I know it has the enzyme (actinidain) which digest proteins in your mouth tissues as you eat the fruit but kiwis, as delicious as this was, taste like someone poured pure acid on my tongue for hours after. I needa stop buying them every week...and inhaling the foam, now I know what all the youths are on about with their whipits.

That is a beautiful plate!

This looks better than what you'd find in fancy restaurants! I award you +1 uovote star.

An old coworker once gave me some homemade pandan, to this day it was the best I've ever had.

But what if I still want to put a bird on it?

Pandan cake is not a well known dessert. Kudos on making it. I’d rec Sam Bo Leung if you’re bold.

I love anything Southeast Asian! Especially Filipino, Thai, and Indonesian those and Japanese and Korean food are my favorite to make.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Love to see someone trying them! I’m that case 3 coloured dessert is also a rec. both are liquid desserts.

I like your plates. I hate my plates and want new ones, had those damned things for 20 years. I like these though.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haha these are the Zespri Sungold kiwis! I think this batch was just more tart than usual. I love kiwi berries those don't effect me as much

Deftly avoided the selfie punishment from imgur, well played.

I remember having to sing those words in kindergarten growing up in the 80s. I think it was Cree? Maybe Ojibway? Honoring first Nations.

Oh, this is shopped! From the thumbnail, "g.d. that's a perfect response, it even looks like OP's plate... did OP post it with a banana?"

Woah! A recipe, plus talent plus, awesome plating? If you happen to be on discord you should join the imgurian cookbook!

It caught my eye immediately bc some psychopath from those "life hack" channels posted one where you could do this with just sugar water.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They really be out here trying to murder people who just want to learn the cool techniques OP used to spice up their foods.

Quick question, is it okay to join the discord and use your recipes without submitting my recipes cause I'm a terrible cook but love to try?

Not a problem! We have several people on there that just want to be lurkers or have small food discussions. :)

What is pandan extract?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think this is how it’s made.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Pandan leaves. Panda leaves dis pile.

Extract made from Pandan leaves. I never heard of it either. https://www.wandercooks.com/pandan-extract/

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Was still confused as to what the coral thing was supposed to be. I -never- would have thought of just using a thin mixture of flour and

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

water to replicate such an effect. Looks pretty neat.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also to add, I know they look brittle, and a recipe I found online says they get brittle when they cool, but how brittle would you say they

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

are when removing from the pan? Rigid, or like a pancake? Because I'm thinking with that design effect if you maybe stuck it into a steamer

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

to loosen it up a bit more, you could maybe form it a bit too instead of just being flat.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pretty brittle but they hold together as long as u scrape slowly around the edges. The more u make the easier it is to take off from the oil

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Had a chance to look into a bit more, there are also some recipes that use the oven and say you can mold them if you're careful before they

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

cool. Which means my mental idea to create a sort of 'alien' design could possibly work. Just neat little theorycrafting.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup! These guys have really cool molds: https://moldbrothers.nl/en/shop/ they're expensive af but beautiful, u can find cheaper molds though

Whatever. @OP is also the creator of what is, hands down, my all-time favourite OC on Imgur:

3 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Am I the only one who finds this inappropriate?? I mean yes she posted the picture but now you’re reposting it in a different context.

3 years ago | Likes 107 Dislikes 16

Classic woman in power/place of attention. She will always be boiled down to how she looks and that's it ? imgur is a creep show.

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 4

Dude yes

3 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 3

Wait sorry I meant "yes I agree with this" and not "yes you're the only one that thinks this"

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yes and no. Posting your face along with something you created is purposely meant to get upvotes via the creeper factor. So it's asked for.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 11

Yeah that’s a bit like saying ‘she wore a short skirt so she was asking for it’

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Really? The argument you're going with is "she posted her face so she asked for dudes to be creepy" ?? Fuck outta here with that shit.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

The argument is that chick's shouldn't post selfies for upvotes when showing things they made. If they do the result is predictable.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

Yes, im as suprised as everyone that theres creeps on here

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 8

Classic defense. If it's expected, it's deserved. Case dismissed I guess.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Not being surprised isn't the same as calling out BS when you see it. The "boys will be boys" mentality is stupid and harmful.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

You are correct

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes. Everyone who is attracted to op already knows. to have to say it out loud reduces op to just that. This post is about food, not looks.

3 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 3

There's a subtle joke in that the commentor thinks "Borat OP" is attractive and not the real OP.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ahh ok fair enough… that does make it more acceptable I reckon

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's just my subjective two cents. I hate people who dog on OPs too.
